BioShock Infinite's Ken Levine On PS4, Vita And Marketing

Greg Miller: ''After what seems like an eternity, BioShock Infinite is finally done, and come March, you'll be able to play it. Still, we're not much for waiting, so over on Podcast Beyond, we grabbed Irrational Games Creative Director and Co-Founder Ken Levine and asked him our burning questions. You can catch the full interview on tomorrow's show, but we thought we'd break out the best parts for you below.''

He's not talking about Sony. He's talking about Take-Two, the publisher. They haven't yet agreed to let him work on the Vita game due to the Vita's poor sales. So the game won't get made until they give the game the green light and start funding the development.

Hopefully Vita sales pick up after PS4 release or around it's release date. They need to dual promote PS4 and Vita so people understand they both work in tandem and accentuate each other.

@adorie

I think it would be smart for Sony to release an "Ultimate Bundle" that comes with a PS4, a Vita+memory card, and a cross-platform game that works on both systems. Hell, they could take it a step further and have custom skins on each system, maybe black with dark grey Playstation symbols (X, O, etc) all over the systems.

Sure, the bundle would be very expensive. But if Sony are smart they will make the bundle cheaper than buying a PS4 and Vita separately. That gives more incentive for people to buy it. Sony also needs to heavily market how interconnected the PS4 and Vita are, and that you can Remote Play every single PS4 game.

With the PS4 Sony has a huge opportunity to turn the Vita around.

Completely agree with your bundle idea. Suggested the exact same thing on gamespot forums haha :P Sony should definitely see the potential of this, and I don't think it will take long before they put it into practice.

Bundle idea is great. They should sell the Vita for what they spend to build it and give it a limited run, say 1 million bundles in each territory? Maybe that's too much, lol.

But they gotta put more Vita's out there!

Judas First Details: How Ken Levine Is Building on BioShock With 'Narrative LEGOs'

IGN: "We spent six hours playing a recent build of Judas, the next game from BioShock creator Ken Levine, followed by a lengthy conversation with the renowned game designer to discuss the long wait since BioShock Infinite, bringing the "narrative LEGOs" concept to life in Judas, what the game is all about, and much more."

I’m tentatively hopeful for this. Love Bioshock. As far as the narrative Legos we shall have to wait and see. The early trailer for Infinite showed off a lot of stuff that didn’t make it into the finished product, and Levine is notoriously difficult to work for, so if this narrative stuff makes it into the came will be curious to see how impactful it is. I’d be fine with something more in the vein of the first Bioshock. Not much like that now, especially since Arkane’s fall from grace.

Psychonaut8529d ago

I didn’t realize Levine’s new studio was under 2K Games just like Irrational was. What was the point quitting Irrational and then 2K dissolving the studio only for him to open up a smaller studio still under 2K? Why not just downsize Irrational, keep operations going and have the brand recognition. Cuz it’s not like Judas is a departure from his normal style. Must be a story there

RaidenBlack29d ago

Cloud Chamber, under 2K, is the new studio developing the next Bioshock (4?) game.

toxic-inferno29d ago

I imagine he had a negative experience building Bioshock Infinite, due to the pressure on the team. As you pointed out in your other comment, lots from that game was cut out or changed before release. I suspect he wanted the opportunity to step back and create a game in a timescale that allowed him to deliver the product he wanted.

Irrational may have also been locked into certain contracts under 2K, and opening a new studio may have allowed him to negotiate new terms.

Didn't the creator write it? It also made a fortune based on the budget so from a business standpoint it is a massive success.
