Console life cycles could become shorter, according to Sony Computer Entertainment.
When asked whether the PS4 will follow the ten-year lifecycle of previous consoles, UK managing director Fergal Gara said his "gut feel" is that they won't be as long as they have been.
"It'll definitely be a long life cycle and we're planning for the future and the sheer scale of the technology announced certainly shows that it should last many years," he told Digital Spy.
"Ten years, yeah, it's a number that's picked out but I think it's interesting to see the PS2 is just being put to bed now, and that's a lot more than ten years.
"PS3 will continue for some period, and will have an excellent year this year, especially software-wise, it's incredibly well-positioned that stuff that's announced already and more to come as well. We'll keep them all going as long as they are viable."
He continued: "But my own gut feel? The life cycles maybe won't be quite as long in the future as they ha...
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
yeah, I think 6 years is the longest that a console should run. by then, the tech is always going to be incredibly dated and in need of a next gen leap.
it could run in the background, like the PS2, but even then, I dont think you would exactly call the PS2's last few years "its golden years."
Keep that tech current and up to date. Nice Sony, good Sony. :D
5 years of life cycle at the least is good number for me.
The same as this gen would be fine. I don't want to shell out 500+ dollars on a new console every 2-3 years. PC elitists, stay away because I already know what you want to say lol.
A new console should be put out every 6 years (Past that the tech is very outdated). With the previous generation being supported for 2 more years max.
