'Aliens: Colonial Marines' Gamers: Don't Give Up (Hadley's) Hope

Forbes - When Aliens: Colonial Marines launched on Tuesday, the majority of reviewers hated it the way Ripley hates xenomorphs…and the gamers who paid to play A:CM hated it even more. Maybe I’m saying this because I didn’t experience as many issues as other people had–also, I had fun playing, because killing aliens = good times–but I’d like you to give A:CM a second chance…with an important caveat.

I tried to give it a second chance playing mp online, but there are bugs and lag a plenty making it no fun at all.

I once sat 3 minutes frozen atop a marine in a match in a dark corner of a level. Fun times...

You were a lurker weren't you and did a pounce/lunge/whatever it was called? Yep happened to me twice and couldn't do anything till the teammate came and shot me off of him. I figured that was enough if I can get cheated like that and haven't really been playing it since. Since it didn't happen not just once but twice.

andron4082d ago

Yeah, it happens 1 out of 5 times and really zaps the fun out of it. Not to mention the lag seems to be worse too. It's a train wreck...

Myst4082d ago

Yeah I know what you mean. First couple of times in MP it happened far too often it seems though. Also agree with the lack but primarily I feel the Xeno side suffers more so from it because of all their moves and abilities save for perhaps the spitter.

I am thinking about Redboxing this thing for a day or two, just to see.

I wasn't even interested in trying this one until now.

Thats what I did. Beat the SP on the hardest difficulty in a few hours, then go annoyed from the online, and took it back the next day.

Some Redbox games I rent and go "dangit, I need more" and end up buying it. Not this one.

I thougt it was a lot of fun.

I am also enjoying the multiplayer, specially survival.

good times.

Too bad it got so much hate from evryone.

This game is stlii better then last AVP game which was unplayable crap. With sweetfx and DX10 mod the game looks pretty good and climatic. Unfortunately this wont fix weak AI and story.

Vladplaya4082d ago

That's funny, I just played 2010 AvP with few of my buddies other day, it was MUCH more fun then A:CM, with all of its problem, we had so much fun its crazy. Not to mention that 2010 AvP actually got fixed up pretty good right before SEGA told Rebelion to not touch it anymore. A:CM is just complete 100% failure in every aspect of the game, I would expect to see crap load of patches before it would get to level of at least okay game.

SatanSki4082d ago

I dont know, maybe they patched AVP to playable level but last time i played it, almost a year ago it just annoyed me after two or three hours of playing. There was something wrong with targeting. Im referring to PC version so maybe if you played console version you had different experience. The biggest problem of A:CM is totally rubbish AI but still i almost finished the game while, as i said, i couldnt play AVP more then three hours. Offcourse de gustibus non est disputandum.

There is no (Hadley's) hope in hell in hell that I have any (Hadley's) hope left for this game. I just (Hadley's) hope that the franchise is handed to a more competent developer, who can (Hadley's) hope...fully give us the game we deserve.

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
