Elizabeth had her historically accurate outfit changed as it “wasn’t attractive at all”

Elizabeth, the mysterious woman who’ll accompany the player in BioShock Infinite, used to have a historically accurate outfit, but that was changed because it wasn’t attractive and “why the hell would I want to hang around with her?”

Oh come now let's not make a big deal out of nothing. Let's not forget floating cities weren't around either

Nimblest-Assassin4078d ago

My problem was people randomly blaming feminists for Elizabeth's outfit change. Saying irrational caved in and were raging about it. At least some people flat out admitted they wanted tits. She gets her original outfit later in the game.

She could wear that Lincoln head for the whole game and I wouldn't care, I just want this game so much

Mounce4078d ago

1) Her face and eyes showed great emotion and I'm a person who loves reactions and emotions, responses to situations being observable.

2) Tits were nice.

Pozzle4078d ago

It's things like this that remind me why people consider games (and gamers) childish. God, even developers think we're all a bunch of horny nerds who are incapable of appreciating a female character unless she is sexy or attractive to look at. :(

Irishguy954078d ago

Imagine if Elena and Chloe were ugly.

Pozzle4078d ago

To be fair, people would have still bought Uncharted even if they were ugly. Because it's an amazing game. Not because two side-characters were good looking.

(well...maybe some people bought it for that reason. But pretty, digital faces are a shit reason to spend $60 on a game that is amazing for so many other reasons).

Blackdeath_6634078d ago

you only find out about elena and chloe after you had played the game and they don't really play an important role in uncharted. in the third one they are almost non existent.

wolokowoh4078d ago

How ugly? It would ruin the story for lack of correct character portrayal if they were just terribly ugly because a major part of Chloe's story is that she was hot, to Drake. to Sully, to everyone. Without her looks the character the loses part of her personality. Also there is no way Drake would be going out of the way to risk his life for women that look like Sully because he would never have gotten to know them enough to care. Drake would not know or care if Chloe was on that train because their partnership would never entered the bedroom. I'm not trying to dog the character but I'm assuming he has preferences and a reasonable high expectations for himself. It's just not realistic to have Drake sleeping with ugly girls without seriously changing the character dynamic up.

@pozzle
Name one female character that isn't attractive or Sexy that was capable to be appreciated by gamers? Not only in games but in the whole entertainment business. Sex appeal thrives the product. Like irishguy said, Uncharted 2 wouldn't be the same if Chloe lack the sex appeal or attractiveness.

Nimblest-Assassin4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Alyx Vance from half life

Clementine from walking dead

wolokowoh4078d ago

All female children obviously. Any game with a cartoon style such as Jak or Ratchet has one or two which are not designed to look attractive. Ashelin and Helga are great examples. Courtney Gears would be the worst example. Any older characters. Brigid Tenenbaum from Bioshock is great example. There are several when you don't narrow your focus to the more realistic art styles and one fairly wide age range(18-35).

I do agree Uncharted would not have been the same with an ugly Chloe because the whole foundation of that character's arc was that she was attractive. The story was written that way though which why Chloe had to look good to make the story plausible.

matgrowcott4078d ago

I have to agree with dboy. This isn't a gaming thing, just a general thing. Attractiveness isn't necessarily about sex or even beauty - it's about the ability to attract.

And why would a publisher put something on a box that isn't likely to attract purchasers?

Blacktric4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

"God, even developers think we're all a bunch of horny nerds who are incapable of appreciating a female character unless she is sexy or attractive to look at. :("

I'd blame that on publishers rather than developers alone. Publishers are the ones that know what sells and what doesn't. I'm pretty sure if it was up to Levine and his team, her outfit wouldn't have changed. But since stuff like cleavage or masculine guys kicking ass appeal to the teens and since they are a big part of the crowd that buys games, it's only natural that they add such stuff to cater to them or to get their attention. Again, like most people who focus on such issues, the writer probably forgot that game development have become a big business, for better or for worse.

KillrateOmega4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

It's not a big deal. It's just business. Business not only found in gaming, but across all forms of entertainment.

On the subject of historical accuracy; there weren't exactly floating cities during that time period either.

Pozzle4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

I'm not bothered by the devs making her attractive, tbh. I'm just bothered by the idea that the devs think the ONLY way gamers could possibly find her interesting or worth "hanging out with" is if she was attractive. Like, they don't think we'd possibly see the appeal of a compelling and interesting character in a historically accurate gown because...I don't know...she isn't "sexy" enough or something.

It certainly gives a glimpse at what they think of gamers, or at least what sort of people they think play video games. :(

The way this piece frames the quote creates the impression that "not attractive enough" = "not sexy/objectified enough". Irrational has said that the original, mega-cleavage Elizabeth is the more historically accurate depiction. Perhaps they altered the model because her boobaliciousness felt cheap and unappealing?

oIITSBIIo4078d ago

Her new-look is not good give us the old Elizabeth .they can cover her boobs if they want but don't change the outfit and her face .

Top 10 Rarest Xbox 360 Games That Are Worth a Fortune

"And lastly, famous Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling helped to create the action-RPG’s setting. What’s really fascinating, though, is that the game was partially financed by taxpayers from Rhode Island (which allegedly lost the state millions of dollars). Yikes!"

1. Now infamous Schilling
2. No allegedly, it did. And they couldn't pay it back.
3. What really lost the money wasn't the SP release but the MMO they were working on. This was supposed to be an introduction into the MMO world.

Soy267d ago

I hate counting limited editions for these lists. I mean, they're made to be rare and expensive. It's far more interesting to hear about the NCAAs (even if most people know that one already) and the El Chavos than some massive hit that came with a $200 statue at retail.

gamerz267d ago

Me too. Here's the best I can do:

El Chavo Kart $90.14
NCAA Football 14 $87.72
Spiderman: Edge of Time $75.94
Spiderman Web of Shadows $75.09
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions $67.76

Christopher267d ago

Wow, El Chavo Kart is not at all what I expected by the name. 100% looks like a Sackboy Kart game.

Soy266d ago

It's so odd that so many Spider-Man games are seemingly given lower print runs, even if they're not the best games.

jznrpg267d ago (Edited 267d ago )

Most Xbox games don’t hold as much value compared to other systems. Kameo, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant , and a handful or 2 of other games that I kept.

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.
