Destiny Q&A – ‘I absolutely believe we’re going to advance the genre’

The heads of Bungie and Activision answer questions on the newly announced Destiny, including when the game is due out and on what formats.

ATi_Elite4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

On Console YES on PC NO cause so far everything I know about Destiny I'm already doing in Firefall or other PC FPSMMO's!

But still I'm very excited to see what Bungie can do besides Halo and Destiny looks Great so far!

Also Bungie doesn't want to say "FPS/MMO" cause most consolers ONLY think of World of Warcraft when they hear the word "MMO"

NOT ALL MMO's play like WoW, MMO just means Massive Multiplayer Online and MMO's are ALL Genres including my favorite FPSMMO (First Person Shooter Massive Multiplayer Online) like Planetside 2 or Firefall and maybe one day Bungie's Destiny!

Fishy Fingers4078d ago

Quote refers to the gameplay machanics. No MMO rant needed.

nirwanda4078d ago

I can think of a few unique thing they could do, what if every player could build so many things like forge/minecraft depending on level and class and when i got so big a near by opposing force could be given a mission to do with that building within the persistant world, money for doin this could be though the main story like a regular mmo.
And people would join forces/clans to build bigger structures

Root4078d ago

Not if your going to make people be always online your not.

theEx1Le4078d ago

MMO games are generally online only are they not? Or am I missing something here?

Root4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Yeah but they aren't really a MMO company are they

These are the guys that created Halo and a lot of people played Halo for it's fantastic single player

For their next game to be always connected to the internet without any off line play or single player is off putting

It's a waste of Bungies talents...I wouldn't be bothered if it was just another game because you'll always think what they'll do after but TEN YEARS they are going to spend on this. It's depressing.

Ducky4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

^ There are also a lot of people that play Halo for it's multiplayer. The pendulum swings either ways with that argument.

I think Bungie has a better idea of what is and isn't a waste of their talents.

outlawlife4078d ago

I don't understand the logic here. The point of the game is to be online...

Gazondaily4077d ago

Exactly what I'm thinking. This game revolves around the social aspect and staying connected with friends and a community through your console or your phone etc. How on earth then would you have a constantly 'living' world?

nirwanda4077d ago

It sounds to me like the world is evolving all the time by the community.
I.e people building stuff and if you needed certain class to make certain bits then you would need the social aspect

3-4-54078d ago

It won't be how you think it is...Let's wait and see what they have planned. So many surprises ahead.

CaptainPunch4078d ago

Please explain? Oh wait you can't...

I wouldn't called the game overhyped, I mean the game is ridiculously ambitious so naturally the hype is going to be through the roof. MMO/FPS on consoles, made by one of the greatest developers, a game that will be supported over the course of 10 years, it all a massive undertaking.

Sounds really cool and exciting. But so far this just looks like a FPS version of Eve Online. So I am not seeing any new concepts just yet and the whole how can you make anything bigger than "Halo" thing worries me. Because lots of games have fiction and worlds a lot more detailed than Halo. Halo was a revolutionary console game but it was old news on PC from day 1. Still this could be the first great console MMO.

clintagious6504078d ago

Hope its really fun. I remember how fun DC Universe Online was and I wasnt even a big fan of MMO's. It had its share of problems with loading issues at times but it did not stop me from enjoying it on the ps3. Now with Destiny, Im sure it will be one heck of a game on all NEXT GEN SYSTEMS. I also hope they come with a new dc universe online game for all next gen systems & maybe they can have cross platform play. That would be cool.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter325d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell324d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig325d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast325d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g325d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka325d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai476d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface475d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
