Aliens: Colonial Marines Review | Xbox Addict

Xbox Addict: "For those who are diehard fans of the Aliens series and love the Xenomorphs as much as we do, we feel your pain. If Aliens: Colonial Marines was done in a way that delivered the game we all hoped for, then without question it would be fantastic and contender for game of the year, but instead for Gearbox, it's game over man. Game over."

i havent played this. how does it compare to aliens on ps1?

EbeneezerGoode4079d ago

If you mean Alien Trilogy? I loved that on PS1 way back, this is better in every way.

What exactly do you like about it? no offence but considering my bad experience with the game and all the reviews bashing it Im really interested in knowing what it is you enjoyed about ACM.

In my case? Solid gameplay, nice level design, immersion, good controls (turn aiming way down on PS3), pacing (no run and gun lots of slow considered, edgy walking ahead), atmosphere, graphics (yes GRAPHICS, they is some great level design, texturing and lighting going on even in PS3 version), the aliens universe itself, lance henriksen and Michael Biehn for voices, the fact that unlike most FPS you don't get bored when you open up the next door - each room is fully formed, functional and believable, solid, chunky and has OBVIOUSLY been designed by someone with a very good eye for art not just cookie cutter rooms like many FPS.

I've had zero bugs show. I had NO preconceptions going in and I've been VERY happily suprised that it turned out decent.

It's not gaming nirvana, it's a 7/10 game. If you are an aliens fan and can appreciate what's good and present rather than what's missing from pre-release hype.

There is a lot to enjoy in this game and I'm laughing at how many people are playing it for 10 minutes, or not even trying it based on all this BS being written about it!

I've seen the inverse happen too - over rated games (Dishonoured was terrible) got great reviews? Seriously dishonoured is like a game from 10 years ago compared to this! Both in gameplay and graphics.

I prefer this game to dead space 3 and I even think it looks better in many cases.

There are some things I don't like, not much, but pointless saying those when so many thousands of others are already saying them.

Look I know many were disappointed or felt lied to, and you can grind you axe about that all year if you must but to me, who had read nothing, played no demos no saw any bullshots before release I've judged it ONLY on the game it is and it's an enjoyable solid atmospheric game with next to no annoyances unlike so many other games I've played in recent years.

Dishonored was great. Your opinion is now invalid

Very fun. There are many out there who haven't played the game and have expressed negative opinions about it. I just got an email on PSN stating that the game sucks, has glitches, and has 2006 graphics. He has no trophy list for the game.

What's sad is how people can't form their own opinions anymore. They read another person's review and repeat their words to everyone else.

Yeah it's fun
But if it wasn't aliens I probably wouldn't like it

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
