Nathan Grayson: ''Resident Evil‘s been expanding its increasingly action-oriented empire for years now, but – while the gesture’s much-appreciated – it hasn’t exactly seen many of its finest hours on PC. Resident Evil 4 was a brilliant scare-’em-up chainsawed in the clavicle by one of the worst ports ever, Resident Evil 5 was profoundly mediocre, Operation Raccoon City was execrable, and Resident Evil 6, well, it’s not out yet. But cries of agony from consoletropolis’ direction don’t exactly bode well. So yes, the once-legendary survival-horror series is in a pretty bad place at the moment. But there is hope. Well, sorta. If nothing else, DICE at least saw Capcom saying the right things.''
Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the recently released second part of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, won't be coming to rival platforms.
Being dubbed a PlayStation console exclusive for one year, many Xbox fans hoped that the beloved remake of the 1997 classic would hit their platform at some point. After all, the game ended up releasing on PC in 2021 as well. Earlier this year, WindowsCentral's Jez Corden said that he had tentative evidence that there are discussions about an Xbox port of the game.
According to Sony's Sony Interactive Entertainment's VP of second- and third-party content ventures and strategic initiatives, Christian Svensson, however, both 2020's Remake and Rebirth have been secured as console exclusives forever.
Yes, let's compare a 3rd party exclusive with trying to buy literally every studio and publisher on the planet 🙄
I don't see how validating OP's point with an example of another scummy tactic should somehow invalidate his point?
It's the point in general. I know said user was trying to be sly and attack ps. I was merely pointing out. Look yall can tripnif you want but if there aren't exclusives then what th fk is the point of said console. Exclusives serve a purpose. Been like that since early days of gaming. I don't see anything about exclusives that's wrong. Would I care if Sony made games for Xbox or vice versa no not really. I'm still buying Sony systems cause xbox simply doesn't get the support ps does especially in the jrpg community. Exclusives still serve a purpose.
These are awesome tactics for Playstation consumers! Giving their customers games worth celebrating....extremely pro-consumer for us Playstation owners. I'm so sorry xbox can't do the same for you, but that's your problem, no one else's.
Ppl like are part of this idiotic fanboys who thinks sony gives fuck about them u ruining gaming with ur fanboy
rambling make good sites like this toxic
@ Irontrike Peoples like yous is no brain persons u r only like Phil juice and facts hurt brain
Sony and the fans who shill for them are anti gamer. They get off knowing you can't play a game.
No more exclusives! Free games!
Anti gamer is exactly ms motto, killing off physical disc, streaming, etc. The orginal Xbox one was as anti gamer as you can get gtfo with that. They simply slowed down their tactics.
O boo hoo Sony was the first to raise game prices to 70 dollars. As if the whole fking world doesn't cost more now. Why shouldn't games. Games stayed at these same prices for 20 plus years. Anti gamer isn't being the only console out there trying vr, ms basically said they will sit back and see how the scene develops(this is Anti gamer)
Gaming is the only industry that has a certain group of morons claiming exclusives are bad ( because they don't have any great ones ). You never see idiots 'demanding' one company's products be available to all the other companies for them to sell. You don't see that with cars, clothes, restaurants, phones, tv or ANYTHING else in this world!
Go to a McDonald's and demand a Whopper.....or go to a Kia dealership and demand a Mercedes. See how that works for you in the real world. Exclusive products are what DISTINGUISH YOUR BRAND FROM ALL THE OTHERS. Their purpose is to get you to CHOOSE AND BUY THEIR BRAND. This is business 101 and is called COMPETITION.
You talk about getting off, the xbox fanboys were squirting everywhere when they thought COD was gonna be exlcusive. Xbox fanboys rubbed their hands with glee because Redfall and the great magnificent Starfield were exclusive! Until these games turned out to be shit and we all laughed at them.
So basically exclusives aren't working out for Xbox. You guys do have your exclusives you know....it's just that no one wants them, not even you.
Charlieboy333. Lol, that made me lol. But ye as much as people are going to say "It's not the same"... It absolutely is lmao. 🤯🤯🤯 29327;🤯
These "scummy tactics" have been around since before we had analog sticks. Stop crying just because it's trendy now. The trillion dollar company gets a shellacking and easily leads you to believe PlayStation is some dirty brand now, as if Xbox 360 didn't live off of third party deals. As if they didn't make back to back multi billion dollar publisher buyouts. It's amazing to watch.
Scummy? Helping fund the development of a game that was already playstation exclusive for nearly 30 years?
No different than gears remaining exclusive for decades... still to this day, though that might change one day.
Microsoft has enough studios to make these kinds of rpgs...
Sony prefers to support devs through timed exclusivity or console exclusivity over purchasing studios outright.
The studios have the freedom to not accept offers or in most cases VM make offers
So everyone is scummy for having exclusives? Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft? I guess it's even then, although Microsoft is the worst, look at what they did when they first created Windows and pushed out all their competition.
Not only that, it's not worth porting this game over when it doesn't appeal to Microsoft's core audience.
How are exclusives scummy? You must think Nintendo is the biggest scum bag of them all then.
Let me ask you this, say you’re in a competitive market and you don’t have time to lose consumers to a competitor or your business will tank. How do you get consumers to choose your product over what the competitor is offering?
So many jealous console gamers hating on pc gamers on this website with the thumbs down let alone they are probably using a pc to use this webpage. Also the games they play were programmed on PCs and the current gen consoles they play on use PC parts, AMD CPUs and GPUS, ram, ssds, and disc drives. They are just jealous because pc gets to play games at max settings and with mods; and now pc is getting console exclusives from both Microsoft and Sony. The excuses are its too expensive or having to do maintenance, but that's why inexpensive plug and play consoles exists for them and pc exists for everyone else.
PC gaming also gets you shader compilation stutter in UE4/5 games, which is not fixable by the end user no matter the hardware. Nothing better than having 100+ fps on a 800€ GPU with freezes and micro stutters just because your GPU has too draw in a shader, right? Even better, every time you update your GPU drivers it overwrites the existing shader profile. AAA games in general more often than not launch like crap on PC these days and you have to wait months for them to get fixed, if ever. PC gaming also gets you a handful of useless launchers that you have to deal with even when you buy a game through Steam. Then there's shit like Denuvo that hampers performance. Just to name a few things.
The fact that a half decent GPU these days costs more than a console isn't an excuse. Most people just want a plug and play solution at a good price and PC gaming just isn't that.
And no one cares what parts consoles are running on or where games are made. That's not really an argument.
This argument (PC vs Consoles) is so tired already. Just invest in whatever fits your fancy, play what you like and enjoy your time. I have been a lifelong console and PC gamer. I mainly play on my PC and I invest in a mid-to-high-end GPU upgrade every 3-4 years to stay current. If that's not your thing, then it's OK... Not sure why so many people get so offended by other's opinions and then feel they have to defend Sony or whoever. Besides, Sony is bringing more of its 1st party games to the PC b/c they are finally beginning to realize they also need to be competitive long-term with MS who has been doing just that for years now.
I have an Intel Iris Xe GPU with 128MB VRAM on my laptop... which is why I'm getting a Steam Deck OLED this Summer 🤣
I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox
- Phil Spencer probably
I can't help but feel like that is a massive mistake by Square Enix. Kinda crazy how they invest so much money in these titles only to turn around and limit its audience to one platform. Even though I have a gaming PC and it'll come to Windows eventually, I can already tell I'm losing interest in this franchise.
I doubt you ever had interest at all if this is all it takes to "make you lose interest".
Not true. I bought Remake. But having to constantly wait for the next FF is getting old. FF XVI still isn't on PC/Xbox. By the time it releases, the next big thing will have come out and I don't care anymore.
Sadly jrpg's don't sell on xbox. Hell, with the introduction of GP, not even shooters sell well.
U must have insider Knowledge what sells sony should hire u better yet Microsoft u could give them advice on what sells cos a trillion dollar company could use ur business savvy
I wonder who knows more.... The company worth billions of dollars or some random person on the internet.
Not really when several Japanese devs have stated JRPGs just don't really sell well on Xbox.
Ff7 is on pc. The sales weren't there for ff15 so why wouldn't sqaure take sonys agreement.
IF you have a gaming PC you sure can afford a PS5.
You don't even have to buy one new just give it a try.
its not a mistake. If you look at how many xbox are being sold compared to PS5, the numbers are very small. So is it worth putting resources into developing for a system that it may not sell well in ?
Sonys corporate shill fanbase loves keeping the experience from others... Sony owns them. Lol
I've NEVER once complained about a 3rd party exclusive for Xbox. It's crazy 🤯. Stop crying and play something on your console of choice. If you don't have anything to play on your console of choice then maybe you should switch consoles 🤷🏽 It is how it's always been, except soooooooooo much more complaining and crying about exclusives lol. Itd be better if they purchased square huh? Stop complaining and make that make sense. Go play Starfield or Redfall or play some multiplat games. If not get a PS5.
Its simple. FF games have never sold well on XBOX. Thats it. Why place extra development time and resources on a version for a console that traditionally has abysmal sales for your titles? Not rocket science.
PS all the Final Fantasy fans already knew which console to buy if they wanted to play these games. I know it drove my decision to purchase a PS5.
Right like Kingdom Hearts and FF XIV or all the other FF games
Surely it will never happen... surely
And all of those sold terribly. If you want to play JRPGs look to Nintendo and Sony. MS had a good run with the 360 on this front but they messed up bad.
The only point in having multiple consoles is if there's still exclusives. I do not get the issue with this at all - if Halo came to PlayStation that would be bizarre to me as well.
Good point except this not a sony game so ur point is sort pointless it come to pc anyways I got it on ps5 I bought the double pack iam currently try ING finish remake so I can finally play rebirth
But games don't be made directly by Microsoft or Sony to be an exclusive. That's just the last two generations where that's ended up being true. Ultimately as long as gamers are enjoying themselves I don't have an issue with any of it, I just find it curious how there's sort of an expectancy both consoles should access the entire non-Nintendo library.
Halo isn't a fair comparison tbh. Xbox actually develops and publishes Halo themselves. This is a 3rd party game. Paying for timed exclusivity is one thing, but we don't normally see a manufacturer pay to keep a 3rd party game off the competitors platform literally forever. That's not something that should ever happen, and I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. The last thing we need is Sony and MS going around buying permanent exclusivity on a bunch of big 3rd party games.
@porkChop
But buying an entire publisher and potentially making ALL future games exclusive is somehow better?
You guys keeps saying stupid shit like that because you know Microsoft can afford to buy anything they want. If Sony had the same buying power as Microsoft, I bet all you idiots would be against anyone buying anything.
I bet Sony wouldn't even find the need to do this if it wasn't for Microsoft trying to buy up the industry, I don't blame them one bit.
Sorry this is absolutely 💯 an idiotic take. Gears of War was going to coming to Playstation and Xbox stopped that buying the IP outright to block that. Which is absolutely to exclude gamers from having access on competing platforms.
https://www.eurogamer.net/l...
Same with Indiana Jones that Xbox went out of their way to amend the contract with Disney to stop it being multiplatform and releasing on Playstation.
https://www.ign.com/article...
Microsoft has been doing quite often too. Purchasing Ori IP, Hellblade studios (Hellblade 2?) Etc.
Another reason it's an idiotic take is its not worth releasing on Xbox and most likely would be a huge loss.
https://www.psu.com/news/cr...
6% sales on Xbox for Crisis Core. Imagine the cost of releasing on Xbox to sales like that? How much more resources would be required to do TWO more versions for Xbox considering they'd have to do versions for Series S and X
@Hypertension
Since you don't know how to read, at no point did I say it's ok to buy a publisher. There's also a difference between buying something and paying to keep something off of a specific platform, the difference being ownership.
@Chevalier
Read your own link. Gears was never actually coming to PS. Gears code and assets were used internally to build and optimize Unreal Engine 3 for the PS3. Maybe you forgot but Microsoft Game Studios were literally the publisher for the Gears games. They owned the publishing rights. That's not remotely the same thing as paying SE to not release games on a specific platform.
MS bought the Gears IP because Epic wanted to move on from Gears and focus on Fortnite. So MS bought the franchise and gave it to Black Tusk (Coalition) to keep their staple franchise going.
Crisis Core is a prequel to FF7. If Xbox gamers aren't getting the FF7 Remake trilogy why would they ever buy the prequel? No shit, of course it sold terribly.
Again such an idiotic take. Just look at the sales data for the top selling Xbox system. The 360 with massive paid advertisement campaign for Final Fantasy and how much did it sell? 1/3 or less Xbox sales with the same console numbers.
Now you think its a good idea to release on even LESS Xbox systems when it's been shown Again and again Xbox fans are all talk. They do NOT buy JRPGs. The cost to do 2 more versions for Xbox and then look at low sales suggest probably losing money.
https://www.engadget.com/20...
@Chevalier
None of what you've said is remotely relevant. If SE were choosing to not release on Xbox due to low sales that would be one thing. I could understand that. But that's not what happened. Sony *paid* them to never release the game on Xbox. This has long been the rumour but we now have a PS executive openly admitting it. This is not a healthy precedent.

If low sales didn't take part then Square Enix has no reason to take the deal then right? Considering they're taking the deal then you bet they have to take into account lost sales. If lost sales are negligible then it's worth taking then right? They have all the sales data and much more data available to make an informed decision. But you're telling me you know more than the company that is the partner in this partnership? Really?! Kk since you got inside information how much exactly is their cost? Oh right you don't know and have literally ZERO evidence that back your opinion. Unless you're in the room and have knowledge about this deal you want to fill us in on? Since you apparently know more than Squares lawyers/accountants/advisors
Its also not healthy for the industry for Xbox to use MS money to buy up the industry either and yet you seem okay with that. Xbox has changed contracts to cancel multiplatform Playstation version of Indiana Jones, canceled Playstation version of Starfield, excluded Nintendo/Playstation for Hellblade 2 and bought up IPs like Ori so that's absolutely 💯 worse than this BS idiotic argument of yours which again is ONLY backed by your stupid opinion. How is this any different than Warhammer Darktides not coming to Playstation? Ark 2? Contraband? Stalker 2? All paid to only release on Xbox only? Don't see you complaining about those games though now do we?
And this what's wrong with this industry and y its struggling at moment pretty scummy if sony have dine this and it will only garm sqaures profit margin
It's cos iam at work and typing fast but I remember ur name cock /ney cock being the apt word for someone like u I hope this spelt okay cos wouldn't want u to become ill cos of my bad grammar lol
This Final Fantasy Remake trilogy should be exclusive to PlayStation for the same amount of time that the original had its exclusivity.
If I’m not mistaken it was over twenty years, like twenty two years Sony had the game exclusive. It’s only been multiplatform once the pc version came out with 2-4x speed, and FF7 been out for twenty seven years.
Okay, did some checking and FF7 released on PlayStation January 31, 1997. On PC June 25, 1998. Then on Switch and Xbox One March 26, 2015 looks like eighteen years as a console exclusive.
They are 2, soon to be 3 games out of thousands. Sony contracting with SE is a good thing, console platforms should have content people identify with the brand. Final Fantasy is a game associated with playstation especially ff7.
When you see in the credits a thanks to Jim RYAN and so many dev engineers techy from playstation who worked on that game... Of course it will not come to xbox
Good, i hope gta 6 skips xbox because i don't want the series s gimping it down.
They don't have a need to go to Xbox. There's like 3 people that still game on that console.
I am not knocking FF series, I could never get into it. That being said they are highly reviewed and regarded. I just wish that Square would spend more time developing new IP and not doing remakes. We have so many different remakes on games, its time spent away from developing new ideas/content
jrpgs dont do all that well on xbox.
it makes perfectly sense it to be on playstation. given both of their history together with ff7
Dumbest shit ever. Alienated an entire community for what? To make less money! It’s brilliant!
Yeah, an 'entire' community of like 1000 interested paying customers ( max ) would pay full price for this game. The rest of you would wait for it to come to gamepass and guess what.....even if that glorious event happened none of you would actually play the damn game. So rather shut up with your 'what ifs'.
Like Xbox and it's every game low sales. To make fanboys feel at home they only have player counts instead of sales.
It's pretty simple actually. If FF games and JRPGs sold extremely well on Xbox, Square wouldn't have taken the deal with Sony.
It’s wise to get off Xbox. Pack it away or sell it back and grab a PlayStation. Much better value.
Good. Now they can double down on spending their development efforts focused on the biggest community of fans that actually support the franchise and deliver the best possible quality on one platform. No watered down XBOX Series S support wasting their time and thinning out the premium console versions. Microsoft's buyout spree has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth about industry consolidation, running treasured studios and their IP into the dirt, and forcing the end of physical media into a monthly pay-to-play subscription model. All terrible for the industry. Thankfully Square is choosing a different path.
Lol I've tried to get into FF multiple times but to no avail, so I'm perfectly fine with this.
Understandable. Final Fantasy VII is synonymous with Playstation. That'd be like bringing Halo to PS consoles.
Got that retro survival horror bug? Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best survival horror games from yesteryear.
Eternal Darkness was way ahead of its time especially for a Nintendo exclusive.
I would love to see a remake or sequel (multiplatform)
4 people love Eternal Darkness.
Quick! Jump on that remake, whoever holds the rights these days.
GameFlavor's Resident Evil First Aid Drink is making a comeback, offering high quality Resident Evil merch.
Focused on what?
If he means focused on what actually made the game Resident Evil then I'm sorry but what a load of bullcrap. They said the same after RE5
If the game has the main character, the sidekick, NO CO-OP, No AI following you, horror, scares, creepy locations....THEN I'll believe them
But after they said that after RE5 and the whole co-op thing what did they do...added co-op in RE6 but made it 10 times worse.
They won't go back you know, they are too proud that their ideas failed them again. Instead of admitting they we're wrong, something they still havent done yet, they'll keep trying to please both audiences.
EDIT
Oh look at that, got to the end of the article and it confirms what I've said
"Well, you have to understand, we have a couple different sets of Resident Evil fans,” he explained. “We have those who love Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica, and Zero, and then we have those who came along during the RE4 era and like things a little more action-oriented, and RE5 even more [action-oriented]. And then RE6 was even more action-focused than that"
"and figuring out how to make something for everyone. That was especially the aspiration of RE6"
Stop making things for everyone, those people who played on RE1-3-CV, WE, are the real fans. You brought in more people with RE4 but still there was a LOT more old RE fans then new fans so you should of went with the majority of fans and the new fans would of soon liked RE for what is was, if they didn't then tough.
Shut up capcom, please .
Focused, again?
They said RE6 would "return to the franchise's roots" yet failed miserably.
Just let it die.
