Aliens: Colonial Marines Can Look Good - SweetFX vs Vanilla

DSOGaming writes: "This SweetFX mod was created in a way to recapture the atmosphere of the older Aliens vs Predator games. Therefore, we upped the shadows, we saturated the game a bit, we added more blue to give that space feeling that was lacking, and we sharpened the image in order to get a better image quality."

Polishing a turd comes to mind!

I bet you haven't even played it. Congratulations for letting the media dictate your opinions and decisions.

It plays like a classic corridor shooter, which is all an alien game needs to be in this genre. Honestly i don't want to have to run around picking herbs and skinning lions for ammo pouches.

Really? This game may end up good on pc afters modders get done with it. Up next, difficulty. They need to add acid damage and try to mimic how hard it would be to actually kill one of those things. I would never buy a console version of this game unless i was a diehard fan. There are so many other great games to play than a generic corridor shooter in aliens skin. Maybe your love of aliens has biased you.

cyborg474081d ago

glad to hear at least one positive opinion on this game.

thezeldadoth4081d ago (Edited 4081d ago )

yeah i do love aliens so i was excited for the game. Its not as good as i was hoping, but it is fun. I'm a fan of old school shooters when i do play shooters. I think serious sam 3 was the best shooter last year. Its getting more hate than it deserves, thats for sure. I think like ZombiU, reviewers are going in to games with the wrong expectations.

Trenta274081d ago

The game is terrible. I played it and regret it. This will be the last time I preorder a game without reading the reviews. Shame on me.

Sarcasm4081d ago

Ugh... Eye bleeding amounts of black crush and high contrast doesn't make it look "better." The "Vanilla" screenshots look miles better.

sadly you are right :( i finished the game today and i'm an Aliens fan, but even i would give this game a 6/10 max.

Justinakach0ppa4081d ago

Honestly I have been waiting for this game ever since I first heard about it and I am a die hard alien fan, the cold hard facts is after playing this I cannot think of one reason why I would recommend it to anybody.

The game is awful, buggy, full of glitches, poor graphics, poor gameplay, bad story, terrible animations, bad atmosphere honestly I could be here all day.

Anybody defending this mess of a game must be trying to find a reason to justify spending money on it.

Played a lot of bad games in my time and this is in my top 5 for sure.

thezeldadoth4081d ago

thats cool, i tried it for free and think its not as bad as you say, so you're statement about justifying the purchase is wrong, and people have been clinging to that old excuse for someone disagreeing with them for too long now.

Justinakach0ppa4081d ago

Its not an excuse Zelda, the fact is anybody who says this game is good obviously has very low expectations or is trying to justify their purchase, but I respect your opinion and everyone is entitled to enjoy what they want to enjoy.

thezeldadoth4081d ago

not saying its great, i'm just saying its not absolutely worthless terrible

Johnny_Cojones4081d ago

Oversharpened at those settings, but I like the color scheme.

john24081d ago

Yeap, a lot of people have been complaining about the colors of the final version ( http://youtu.be/3z2qVebxlUo ). This SweetFX is for those wanting the blue-ish dark atmoshpere of the demo

IaMs124081d ago

I don't get it, did they release an old build by accident? Ridiculous, its one thing to market the with come CGI trailers and such then show the real gameplay but to actually pawn off and lie about the actual visual look of the game is just wrong. Essentially thats what they did, they lied to us. Understandable that things change but why for the worse. What happened to that next generation dynamic lighting they tooted about, no HUD at all, and "sophisticated" alien AI. Gearbox dropped the ball.

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
