Dead Space 3 Review: Nope! | Gaming Blend

Many Dead Space fans feared that Dead Space 3 would mark an end to the series' blend of action horror. In pursuit of bigger sales, would EA ditch the horror elements in favor of delivering a balls-to-the-wall co-op shooter? However, as it turns out, the game didn't sacrifice horror for action. It fails at both.

I'm not saying the game deserved a 5/5, but 2.5 seems a little low.

Playing the game still and starting the 9th Chapter and LOVING IT. This score or anything like it is worth .... NOTHING (empty like some parts of outer space).

Agreed, I'm about 6 hours in and so far it's excellent.

70% of the time it's a lot like the previous games (dark empty corridors with things jumping out, solving puzzles to get machinery working, etc).

20% of the time it's more action-shooter, but this isn't too frequent and works well for some variety as adrenline moments after long periods of quiet and isolation.

10% is the excellent zero gravity full flying around in space, which I really enjoy.

Absolutely loving it at the moment. I never finished #2 because it got too repetitive for me, but this one does not over-emphasise the action and instead uses it for key set-pieces that really broaden the scale of the franchise beyond just 'here's another empty ship with broken lights and necromorph-sized vents'.

I can understand some people are wary, but i think it's more the fault of the marketing presenting it to be more of a run-and-gun shooter than it actually is. Give it a go before making judgements.

0/5 .. because after the great 1st title the overly boring second part disappointed me in a way that i do not even wanna know what they level-edited this time around. i guess the 2.5 is a bit too high.

Not quite sure what people were expecting.

I'm enjoying the game, it's not an easy game if you play normal or hard for a lot of people.

Has more enemies, big boss type creatures.

Space is alive and well.

I feel the reason why this game is getting low scores is because it isn't as scary as the previous games. The gameplay/everything else is really well made and had this been just another action game, it would have had higher scores.

I'm giving this a 9/10. I would have given it a 10 like the last two, but I can't give it full marks because of the lack of horror (especially in co-op) and sometimes it can get repetitive.

I just played through Dead Space 2 before starting the third so that I would understand the story and so far I can't see what people mean about the game being less scary. Dead Space 2 had a load of jump scares and so does the third. I think people are saying it is less scary because there are only so many times you can jump to a loud noise before you get used to it. By the end half of dead space 2 (The last 5 chapters) I was barely scared at all and I am very easily frightened. I am enjoying playing through the third with a friend. I love the environments and crafting system. I think both games are great.

So what I am trying to say is play them back to back and you will probably notice that the games handle scares in the same way. Admittedly the start of Dead Space 2 was really scary and the beginning of the third is very action orientated.

Ordered my copy over Amazon. Wanted to take advantage of the $20 credit they were offering for preorders. Have yet to try it myself though. Wanted to play through the originals again before delving into three.

Keep hearing mixed opinions about it. Still very optimistic that I will enjoy the game. The atmosphere still seems to be there. As well as the tension brought on by the firefights. For me, the games were never scary. People saying that they aren't horror anymore, well, they never were for me.

Guess I will know for certain soon enough. That 2.5 though, no matter how you feel about the progress of the series, doesn't seem warranted. Scores like that are normally left for broke messes (though I would argue broken messes should rate even lower than a five, if the criteria for most scoring systems were ever used properly). This game, by no means, is a broken mess. It seems to have a rather high level of quality to it, really.
