Ubisoft and Rayman Legends: Screwing Over Gamers and Possibly Their Own Developer All At Once

SuperPhillip Central writes, "The news of Ubisoft of Rayman Legends going multiplatform, but most importantly, delaying the finished Wii U version until September, shook the gaming world. If you could sift through the editorials claiming the Wii U was now most certainly doomed after only three months on the market, or the arguments between console warriors on various sites, then you could see just how crappy this decision actually was, for gamers and for the developers of Rayman Legends, and why you shouldn't think of boycotting the game despite this maddening news."

It's great news for PS3 or XB360 owners but sucks for Wii U owners especially for those who brought the system for this game. Hope the Wii U version gets some extra content to make up for the delay.

PopRocks3594085d ago

How is it great news for 360/PS3 owners other than the confirmation of a release? They're being released in the same month as GTAV and Wind Waker HD. Not to mention they won't get any positive PR from an early Wii U release (unless it turns out the game sucks anyway which is unlikely).

I could be wrong, but I don't see this game being successful sales wise. If that's the case then Ubisoft dug their own graves on this one.

cloud4954085d ago

It's great news because PS3/ 360 owners get to play the game?

I'm not saying Ubisoft is right for delaying the game or even releasing it next to GTAV and Wind Waker HD. But if you are a Rayman fan who only owns a PS3 and/ or Xbox, I don't see how this isn't great news for them?

I agree with the game not being successful sales wise. Gamers will most likely have their attention on other stuff like GTAV.

ElectricKaibutsu4085d ago

The game as far as I can tell from the demo, is great. I'm happy more people will get to play it. I also don't need extra content or anything for it being delayed. I wish they would just release it on time.

Oh_Yeah4085d ago (Edited 4085d ago )

mightt's Microsofts policy stating that either the game is released simultaneously on thier system or don't bother, we might refuse it. That's why wii u gamers have to wait on an already finished game. The policy sounds like something a spoiled little b*tch would make up.

Oh_Yeah4085d ago (Edited 4085d ago )

It's* not mightt's... Phone your drunk.

ONI54085d ago

It only makes sense if the 360 version uses smartglass and the PS3 version uses the Vita for touch screen parity.

Starfox174085d ago

These developers should go and form their own studio or join Nintendo that would speak volumes and teach Ubisoft their not bigger than the people who actually develop the games without them ubisoft are jack.

REALgamer4085d ago

From what Ubisoft has stated, there release of the 360 and PS3 versions will in no way impact the content of the Wii U version, which is still getting its extra touchscreen and co-op features as planned.

So why on earth should Wii U owners care about this announcement at all? It just means more people get to play the game, but 360 and PS3 owners will not get some of the extra Wii U features.

matgrowcott4085d ago

Because Ubi are saying it won't impact the content of a game that was due in two weeks but now won't be available for 6 months.

"Hey, this game is done, but you're not allowed it until Microsoft and Sony get it on their consoles as well."

REALgamer4085d ago

Ah, my mistake.

I didn't notice that the Wii U version had been delayed; I thought it was only the 360 / PS3 versions were going to be released in September. Now that makes sense.

ElectricKaibutsu4085d ago

Why do I care? Hm, I don't know.

By the way, I hear GTAV is being delayed for seven months while they port a Wii U version. Cool, right?

Minato-Namikaze4084d ago

Wouldn't care, I was pissed FF13 though

Chrono4085d ago

Rayman Origins sold a lot more on the PS3 and 360 than the Wii, so I can't blame Ubisoft.

matgrowcott4085d ago

But as (practically) a launch game on a system that desperately needs quality titles it would have more than paid for itself and maybe gotten itself a new following.

Now the developers are putting it across three consoles and against the end-of-year blockbusters, including whatever Nintendo are going to announce between now and then.

They could have had enough sales and been happy, but they're taking a big risk and I'm not sure it's going to pay off. It certainly didn't with Origins.

Will There Ever Be A New Rayman Game?

Ubisoft barely have a leg to stand on lately, so do they need to crack open the vaults and return platforming royalty to glory for some goodwill?

We need Rayman 4, they could make a great platformer game if they wanted. With the open hub levels and the like.

Better than relying on Rabbids and Assassins Creed all the time

Profchaos46d ago

Yeah agree id love a Rayman 2 style 3d platform game over another 2d platformer I know people loved legends but it never gelled with me same as Rayman 1 back in the day on PS it just felt like a average platformer with sonic and Mario offering something better on what was then last gen hardware

Terry_B47d ago

Yes..but I am sure it won't be the Rayman game fans want. Not from the company that is Ubisoft today.

mastershredder47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Ancel is retired from games. His hoodlum/rabbid team are doing their own thing. It would not be the same if Ubisoft did.

Profchaos46d ago

Probably far more profitable to make low effort Rabbids games aimed at kids over a next Rayman

Chocoburger47d ago

Experience points, skill trees to fill up, level gating, endless menial tasks and side quests, constantly scrounging for resources. Always having to upgrade your gear. A.KA. "The Ubisoft effect".

No thanks, don't ruin Rayman's legacy.

Profchaos46d ago

Sure there will be it'll launch right alongside the next splinter cell

Rayman Legends - 10 Years of Legendary Platforming

Rayman Legends made its debut 10 years ago today, and has been launched on nearly every gaming platform since.

HankHill229d ago

Too bad Ubisoft only cares about live service games now. Maybe one day they'll make a new Rayman game.

Venoxn4g229d ago

Great games.. would be cool to get qn Origins remaster at least..I know that many of the levels are in Legends, but still

Outlawzz229d ago

Loved this game but wish they would create a new Rayman 3d game.
