An Open Letter to Ubisoft - Don't Punish Your Fans

Thanks for making Rayman Legends available to more people, but the 7 month delay for the Wii U version is absolutely ridiculous.

Reason is probably because its basicly fact that later ports sell worse then when a game gets a multiplatform release. Sucks for wiiU owners but Ubisoft knows this plus they can advertise the game once instead of twice.

Root4089d ago

True

I mean the fact that Ubisoft are becoming money hungry would prove why they are doing this if they don't want to loose potential money.

Seriously by next gen I feel they are going to become like the new Activision or something

The same happened with Capcom last gen

People who are that hellbent on "not" getting a Wii U or the Wii U version would not lose anything by it coming to the Wii U first.

Also, this game would have been a hit with the drought of games that the Wii U has been seeing. It was pretty much the only must have gaming coming out this month and it would have monoplozed the entirety of the Wii U market.

Now they are releasing it after all of the other big games like, Resident Evil Revelation HD, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3 and Zelda HD come out. Its going to sell like garbage.

They might as well not release it at all for the Wii U now. No one will want it. There will be too many other great games that people will be more interested in buying on the console 7 months from now. They just hurt themselves quite a bit as far as the Wii U market and fan base is concerned. Rep damage like this tends to linger so it will likely extend to other Ubisoft games on the Wii U in the future like it does with EA.

Novistador4089d ago

They are going to get crushed. I love rayman I have been playing it since the days of the PS1. Ubisoft may have killed this title by releasing it against heavy hitters like Zelda, Pikmin, GTA, and multiple other games.

sdozzo4089d ago

I think Bastion sold well with a stagger release but I see you working.

mandf4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

How are they hurting their fans? Rayman has appeared on all consoles this gen. By making it exclusive they hurt their fans. The only people hurt by this are nintendo internet warriors. Nobody should be hurt, we all now get to play the game. Journalism at its finest.

Phil324089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

By delaying the Wii U version when it was basically complete is punishing ALL gamers who wanted to play the title, whether they had the system, were going to buy the system for the game, or were going to use a friend's Wii U to play it-- not just Wii U owners. Don't post saying something silly like "journalism at its finest" when you clearly didn't think things out well enough.

EDIT: And you have a history of *insert company here* (*cough* Sony *cough*) internet warrior type comments anyway, so I wouldn't go that route if I were you.

mandf4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

The WiiU has the smallest install base. You think 140 million consoles between xbox and ps3 mean little to under 10million Wiiu. It's a business for them and they want to make money. Stop sticking up for upset journalists.

By the way look at my history I stay out of topics for things that don't interest me. I also stick up for things that unfairly get bashed. I play the games so I can speak of them. Unlike most who just use a game to advance their console of choice.

Starfox174089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

Yet if it were the other way around 360 ect would of still got it and september would of been wiiu and 3rd partys wonder why their games dont sell well guess what us nintendo gamers are not stupid.

That game on wiiu was about to sell millions daft decision.

N4g_null4089d ago

I don't mind it coming to the other consoles it is Ubi footing the bill. Hopfully it sells but I'll get it on the wiiu. Hopfully the slow down does degrade the gameplay.

Novistador4089d ago

@mandf Here is the problem with your business claim. Would you rather release in February on a system in need games? OR release in February against titles (Zelda, Pikmin,GTA, monster hunter and more) that will more than likely dwarf your sales. Also with games at 60$ a piece you think people will be buying multiple games? If the game sold great on the Wii U others would flock to it when it would be (re) released on the other consoles

There is no losing money in releasing the already finished Wii U version first and then releasing the other versions that probably just started later, so I have no idea what you are on about, nor how it relates to what I said. The point is that those (Wii U owners or not) would be able to play the game in three weeks as opposed to seven months from now. Not that hard a concept to get...

mandf4089d ago

Yeah I agree it sucks for WiiU users but it's not their premier game seller. I feel for you but it doesn't change the fact that author sounds more hurt by losing exclusiveness than the delay. That's the problem I have. Ubisoft should have been more upfront their fans.

N4g_null4089d ago

It's doesn't suck for wiiu user since we still get the game. Other gamers should be thrilled but all they seem to care about is smearing Nintendo. Pro tip... Don't forget to be a gamer first.

Nevers0ft4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

I have no qualms with regard to the game no longer being a Wii U exclusive... But to delay the game for 7 months just so it can release with the other versions sucks, especially when it's almost certainly complete.

It WAS going to be my next retail Wii U game, followed closely by Aliens, Need for Speed, maybe Sniper Elite and whatever else turns up that's decent.

I wont be buying Rayman just on principal now. Plus, it's releasing at a time when the market will be saturated with FAR bigger games and my wallet can only be pulled in so many directions. I realise the Wii U user-base is currently limited but there's also a dearth of games at the moment which seems like the perfect time to release a title like Rayman. Idiots >:(

gamingzen4089d ago

Well fuck rayman and fuck ubi soft because come september wii u will probably have mario and mario kart and a shit load of other games rayman will look dated

Zodiac4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

Very true. Why delay the Wii U version? The 360/ps3 version is not going to be done soon, and if you were not going to buy a Wii U, then it wouldn't matter anyway.

Just release the game for the people who have a Wii U or want one soon, and release the 360/ps3 version when it's done for the people who were not going to buy a Wii U anyway.

At the end of the day you still have to add up all the sales together, so i don't see what is so special about releasing them at the same time.

Edit: also, why move it closer to GTA? Rayman isn't such a huge franchise(anymore)

gpturbo814089d ago

it is pretty shitty to have a finished game that is ready to release in under a month, just to sit on it. 2 delays for a game that should have been out at launch. whatever

Ubisoft's Recent Antics Have Me Fearful For The Sands of Time Remake

Hanzala from eXputer: "With Ubisoft's practices becoming increasingly anti-consumer lately, the destruction of The Sands of Time Remake looks almost inevitable."

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
