While I've not really had an interest in this game myself, I've been told it's quite good.

Some games just don't seem to sell at a really high number regardless of their level of quality, I wouldn't call that "failed".

Blastoise4087d ago

I think it's pretty good. It's not perfect by any means. There is a lot of stuff they could have added. But there is a lot of stuff that they got right too.
I'd give it around an 8/10, though I can understand a few of the 7's it received

I still hope we get a sequel

morkendo234087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

whoooo-WHAT'D!!! the game fail??? after all the HYPE developers put into it. impossible, "playstation all-star" is excellent game.

now i see why developers stay with "first person shooter" only games now, market afraid to buy non violent games.

just saying

Army_of_Darkness4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Superbot was to reliant on 3rd party characters(bad choices for some) rather than using more playstation characters and adding an optional health meter, plus they definitely could have added more characters, for example instead of using 2 coles(good and evil cole) they could have used normal cole and enable him to transform into evil cole on level 2 or something, while having another character from the infamous universe like one of the two super chicks.... and it should have been more like powerstone, which would make it feel less crowded and more open.

LOOK_AT_THIS_I4087d ago

I played the beta for a while and it just seemed like the screen was just too busy. Had trouble tracking your character, overpowered characters with ranged attacks were old school NES cheap attacks.

The game looked ok just notmy cup of tea, I never gotninto smash brothers either. Prefer my fighting games like mortal kombat/street fighter.

Temporary4087d ago

PS Allstars will end up being a free game for PS+ members, and it'll make money from DLCs.

guitarded774087d ago

I like it... I wish there were more game modes, but other than that, I think it's pretty damn good. More characters and environments are coming too, so it has legs. Just hope Santa Monica keeps the support coming. You can get the PS3/PSV versions (both) for $40 on Amazon. For both versions, that's a pretty good price considering all the gameplay you get.

chazjamie4087d ago

I called it, and people called me out. When i was just telling everyone how it is.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale its a failure on both vita and PS3 cause it sucks. I have it on vita and well the game its a ripped off super smash bors wanted be and failed hard. Metacritic sore low 70s and same in game rankings. I did npt like the game cause its innacurate, poor looks and made some of the most 1st party ip look like garbage. Its horrible and the reason why sony got rid of them.

Playstation all star has an RROD. TEE-HEE.

nugnugs4087d ago

Yeah. No where near as good as Smash Bors, eh.
Jog on TROLL.

zebramocha4087d ago

You know that ssb is nothing new, thrill kill did 4 player combat before ssb,out foxies had dynamic battlefields and marvel vs capcom was the first to do character mash up.

HITANDRUN4087d ago

i COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER, its true, i have it for ps3 and I doubt it the score until i check metacritic. I guess its a failure, but I like to play, althought now im bored of it.

Eyeco4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Super Smash Bros Brawl scored in the mid 90's and sold over 10 million copies,

PSABR scored in the low mid 70's and hasnt even cracked a million

Don't shoot the messenger it is what it is , in comparison it is somewhat of a failure, but It still holds its own and I can definitely see the appeal,
I like PS I consider myself a fan, but I found PSASBR to be, really really boring especially in comparison to other fighters on the market, I'm not trolling or anything again I can see the appeal of the game, if you enjoyed it fair enough ,it's just my honest opinion.

This video pretty much sums up my opinions of the game

I really don't think the game was a failure, but I don't think it was a complete success either.

Looking at the game you can see there wasn't a huge budget behind this, and if there was then it was sorely misused.

As far as the game itself it's solid. It's definitely a party game that a bit of a serious fighter, and it works. I had some major complaints but after playing it I can say it's a really fun game.

The failure was the complete lack of presentation and budget, but the success was the potential this game has laid down for a amazing sequel just like SUper Smash Bros. did for Melee.

It's a good game just not $60 good, unless you have a Vita as well, but even then it should have been $40, because it's not up to par with other PlayStation Exclusives.

Tonester9254087d ago

All-Stars failed because gamers Failed to realize that it wasn't Smash Bros. and it wasn't suppose to copy Smash Bros.

omi25p4087d ago

The main reason it failed was because of advertising.

Which is the main reason most PS3 exclusives get lower sales.

I literally didn't even know PASBR was out until a month later when i happened to see a review.
I didn't see a single advert, trailer, Poster or anything.

Sony quite simply don't advertise. It was the same for uncharted 3, If it wasn't for the fact i had preordered and was interested in the game i wouldn't know i was coming out because there was literally no advertisement what so ever in the uk.

DroppinLoot4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Well I think in the video game industry we can call any big budget IP a failure if the sales don't meet their expectations. Sony was really banking on this game to be their Smash Bros... and results from a sales standpoint just didn't match up, even if the game is great.

Irishguy954087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Yeah this boggled my mind. For all the inspiration they took from Smash bros, they didn't take one of the better things from it.

Also, I expected more characters. Their main gametype shoulda been an option like it is in Smash bros

Yodagamer4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Yea i know, It's like they were changing things up just to change them up. I don't see why they did, people where gonna compare it to ssb might as well implement one of the better things about it. @Neko_Mega I disagree it actually does take skill, it adds depth because you need to weaken the opponent first and then the person being flung must make use of aerial combat to attempt to survive. It's another element added onto the game.

Neko_Mega4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

Might want to look more into this game before saying they copy Smash Bros.

Yes they seem the same, but theirs more to it then that. Ringouts are pointless and show no skill an for someone playing it a first time. Ringouts are cheap.

P.S. Look on YouTube, they did a topic about it with people that love Smash Bros and they even said Playstation All Stars isn't the same.

zebramocha4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

@ yoda in ssb you only need to know your character pros and cons because you just need to get them close to the edge and camp so they can't make a effective counter attack.

@perjoss so getting a game for cheap is bad? You would think that is a good thing because you could get two good for the price of one.

Tonester9254087d ago

The only "Inspiration" that was took from smash bros. was to have a 4 player Console exclusive party fighter.

That's like saying every third-person shooter is a Uncharted rip-off

r214087d ago

Points 2 and 3 are agreeable but point 1, i gotta disagree. I dont get how confusing it is that only kills/knockouts is only attainable by using a super attack.

Also, IMO its not a failure considering it sold 0.52 million worldwide.

the worst4087d ago

dont 4get downloaded numbers dont show up

Perjoss4087d ago

When a game starts selling for cheap quite soon after it comes out, you don't need download sales numbers to see how badly its selling.

Baka-akaB4087d ago (Edited 4087d ago )

When download numbers are truly good , they are usually bosated about , not just hidden and barely mentioned .

It's probably not a failure per se , but it didnt excite much either

Tzuno4087d ago

Because is full with to many personages and to little to do.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69511d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop511d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard511d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi511d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin511d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus518d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer517d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
