Just 1.5 million between Xbox360 and PS3 now. I wonder if it will catch it or if the next gen hype train will drop their sales?

The PSP has done some pretty crazy lifetime sales numbers now too, nothing on the DS though. No PS2 numbers?

WiiU numbers are quite low too, that console had better watch out or it will do a gamecube...

GribbleGrunger4090d ago

That could well have put the fly in the ointment. Post PS4 announcement rumours, I'd guess November for the catch up, but it's not quite so clean cut now. We'll just have to wait and see because many people will be waiting on the release window. Once that is revealed then we can determine weekly averages again and work out when the PS3 will catch up. If the PS4 releases late next year then I'm sticking with November ... but if it's releasing this year, I'm saying March 2014.

pandaboy4090d ago

your predictions are as capricious as pachter, gribble.

aCasualGamer4090d ago

I think it's safe to say that this generation was a tie interms of sales between Sony and Microsoft.

Interms of games, Sony raped Microsoft.

user39158004090d ago

You probably dont know any better cause you are caual gamer lol... The attached rate on xbox 360 its higher than any other console, end report tells you that anyways when you see stock shares, so its actually 360 ahead of both wii and ps3. Its kind of messed up to see almost 100m wii sold and not registering top 10 software monthly, but tats the way it is, it seems 360 had the most hardcore this gen.

Anon19744090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

That's interesting. I thought Microsoft hadn't revealed attach rates for the 360 outside of the US. The last I saw, which was a couple of years ago, the PS3's worldwide attach rate was sitting at 8.5 while the 360's US attach rate was 8.9 (and analysts said it would be somewhat lower worldwide).

Any links to those worldwide attach rate figures that you're using to make those claims? I haven't come across any updated numbers recently.

HITANDRUN4090d ago

Many disagrees with nlvwithgms, but hes right, casual gamer you are so wrong, xbox 360 outsold both wii and ps3 on the gaming department. here this is for you and the rest of the people who think is wrong http://vgsales.wikia.com/wi... Xbox 360 has the highest attached rate of any console ever made, not just wii and ps3. As a matter of fact ps3 has the lowest attached rate of our current rate, im not trolling just go to that link.
First 30 Months of Consoles Life - Attach Rate

Xbox - 6.8
PS2 - 6.5
Dreamcast - 6.4
GC - 6.3
PS - 5.2 (6.9 in Nov. 1999)[10]
N64 - 4.6

Anon19744090d ago

@Hitandrun. The link didn't work for me, but how is attach rates for the first 2.5 years of each console's lifecycle a relevant window? Surly the long term attach rates for the console would be a more telling indicator of the console's overall success. Theoretically, a console could have an attach rate of 20 for the first couple of years, but over four years after that if the rate dropped down to 2 no one would consider that a success. You need a bigger window than just the first couple of years to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Again, as I mentioned, the PS3's worldwide attach rate sat at 8.5 worldwide back in 2011. The 360's attach rate worldwide had not been revealed by Microsoft, but their US attach rate was 8.9. You may not be trolling, but you're numbers are not telling the whole story.

nlvwithgms@

I'm casual in comparison to the hardcore COD and WOW players, so it's more sarcastic rather than accurate. I love story based games and have gamed since NES.... so, not that casual.

Also i wasn't necessarily talking about sold copies of games, rather exclusive titles. Sony has had better exclusives and more talked about exclusives than Microsoft this gen... without a doubt.

But now that you mention it... Sony has had more sold games in the multiplatform category as of late, if you've noticed the charts.

rainslacker4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

@nlvwithgms

Attach rates are a rather meaningless number, and used primarily as a guide for how many people who own the system are purchasing games. It shows more are people using it to play games, or using it for some other purpose...like streaming or DVD/Blu-Ray playback.

For instance.

If 2 consoles (X and Y) have an equal attach rate but X only has an install base of 40 million, whereas Y has an attach rate of 80 million, then Y sells twice as many games as the other one. However, the average percentage of users still buying the same number of games are equal.

If X and Y have an equal install base, but X has a lower attach rate then less people in it's install base are purchasing as many games for it.

In the end the only thing that publishers look at is overall software sales on the system. They say X system sells this many games, regardless of actual attach rate. It's what they use to determine what kinds of games they are going to produce. Outside of some exceptions, Sony is generally either equal or slightly ahead on average game sales, somewhat indicated by them having roughly equal attach rates.

However to dismiss your point, Sony's attach rate caught up to MS in 2010, and people were claiming surpassed MS in 2011. Numbers likely aren't available for 2012 yet. Either way, when consoles have an install base of around 70+ million and with an attach rate over 8, both are going to get support.

@hitandrun

While vgsales is a decent place to get historical comparison data, it is woefully under updated and pretty defunct when it comes to current sales. It's a shame because their numbers are pretty accurate and plentiful and presented in an easy to read format. Anything from them in the past couple years though isn't really worthwhile as it doesn't stay up to date with many factors related to sales.

I find it quite funny seeing the PS3 and 360 numbers now as back when the PS3 was launched I said that the 360 and PS3 sales would be around about the same come the end of this gen as they both offer a similar experience and that the Wii will sell the most as it offers more to a wider market and I was told that wont happen and that Sony will walk it.

Im glad Sony sales have picked up over the last few years as for me as a gamer its had some amazing games that should not be missed even by Nintendo and Microsoft fan boys.

I cant wait to see what sony and Microsoft now have for use next gen and already having a WiiU makes it even better to see what they have to try and out do Nintendo this gen. But I do see there not being a market leader like we have seen over the last few years I see the final sale being more or less the same next gen as they will all appeal to everyone rather than one side of the market.

I also hope sony can pull up there PSV as again im loving this device and over the last few months ive not put it down when im out but I do expect that to stop next month with luigi mansion is out on the 3DS.

Also I don't think the WiiU numbers are low as it has sold more than the PS3 and 360 sold in there 1st 3 months on the market.

Karpetburnz4090d ago

last month when it was reported that PS3 had shipped 77 million and Xbox 360 had shipped 76 million, I believe these numbers were accurate, because Microsoft have confirmed the sold 75 million which is only slighty less than its shipped numbers.

If Sony shipped 77 million, that means they will sell 77 million to consumers with just a slight delay.

B1663r4090d ago

Sony didn't say they shipped 77 million consoles. An IDC forecast which has been horribly inaccurate in the past guesses they have sold 77 million. We might have some idea in the next few days when Sony reports earnings. If they have outsold the xbox, they will make a big point of throwing it out there then, because other than that there will be little good news in their earnings report.

Having said that, you are right about these numberz being horse poopy. According to this bogus website, retailers have a 3-6 month supply of consoles in stock at any given time, and just lol.

Muerte24944090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

Might want to do a little better research next time. IDC said microsoft shipped about 76 million at the end of 2012. In Microsoft's report they indeed shipped 75.9 million by the end of 2012.

Microsoft Holiday quarter report
http://www.vgchartz.com/art...

How in any way were they inaccurate? Many people said that when Sony announced their 70.2 million during (Jul.-Sept.) quarter, that it did not include sales from October (because they didn't release their report until Nov.1). Skeptics are now like "how did they sell 7 million in two months?" People were laughing when I posted my wiki source saying 70.2 million as of September 30th, now those people are nowhere to be found.

user39158004090d ago

Ps3 will catch up, maybe by June, but their numbers might decrease if they announce feb 20 ps4, 360 did a good job with advertising, but they might stop production by august if the 720 is backwards compatible. I believe the PS4 wont be bc and the ps3 numbers will increase for a dirt cheap ps3, too many tites on ps3 to pass up.

aceitman4090d ago

Once Sony drops the price on ps3 it will catch it.

chukamachine4090d ago

Those numbers are bull, PS3 has already sold more then 360.

They don't update to the real numbers.

GribbleGrunger4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

For goodness sake. The 77 million included shipped consoles (and it wasn't official anyway), and the same can be said of Microsoft. The 360 is still ahead of the PS3. Look, I'm a Sony fan; always have been and always will be. I buy quality that lasts. But please, just face the truth and don't listen to the fools who write silly articles on N4G. It will happen sometime soon and then you and I can celebrate the fact that we ignored those that said it wasn't possible. And our celebrations won't bother fans of other consoles because they consider it irrelevant. It's the perfect scenario.

Lvl_up_gamer4090d ago

YES!!!

EXACTLY. Well said GribbleGrunger. Very well Said.

Bathyj4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

Just wondering Gribble, how do you know?

I dont know, and I dont really care, its that close that its really irrelevant but you seems adamant that XB is still in front.

adorie4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

We still don't have solid numbers from Sony. Not like it should matter, though. a great victory for both. Microsoft captured marketshare,Sony came up from a 9-10 million lead, 1 year head start and fought through a $599.99 price tag, incurring major losses and a media biased.

This was interesting to the point of dramatics.

Muerte24944090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

he's right actually. Also you can argue the shipped vs sold to consumer all you want, but once retailers receive their shipments, those consoles are considered sold. I wouldn't consider IDC (International Data Corportation) some silly N4G fool. It's these guys job to know and unlike Micheal Patcher, make accurate assessments. The report said Microsoft shipped/sold 76 million. Microsoft financial report says 75.9 million. Only being off of worldwide numbers by 100k> is pretty damn good to me(pretty sure they just rounded it off). They seems alot more accurate than site we're looking at right now.

These numbers are actual SOLD consoles through retail.. Sony has SHIPPED OUT more consoles to those retailers but stores sold more 360s to customers..

If u factor in all the failed 360 consoles due to RROD, PS3 is likely the highest seller all around.. It doesnt matter either way though cuz as long as u get games u like, play either..

I prefer PS3 but 360 gave them a run for their money by releasing early & building a user friendly console with virtually all multiplats.. MS did well however i doubt that can happen again..

adorie4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

technically they are all sold. shipped to retail is sold.

Muerte24944090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

but I will not deny, Microsoft did alot better this gen compared to their previous outing. They gained tremendous market share, what were once PS exclusives, and made themselves a key player in gaming. That being said, Sony proved that you can never count them out. They overcame many adversities (some were of their own making)to overtake their closest competitor who had a incredible head start. Wars are inevitable whenever there is a choice between. PC realm, Nvidia vs AMD, Intel vs AMD, Noctua vs Thermaltake, etc, it's the same. Free will people, get used to. Next gen I plan to have a PS on my chest and Orbis on my back. Sony, I'm ready to enlist.

Congrats to Call of Duty!

Haters will hate but Call of Duty is a very fun game.

Karpetburnz4090d ago

Which is why so many casaul gamers play it, It doesnt require much skill to have fun with the game.

But its not my cup of tea.

Bathyj4090d ago

A friend asked me today, he said he saw players that werent really aiming at him then suddenly raised their gun at him and shot him really quickly.

I had to explain to him what quickscoping was.

SlyFamous024090d ago

Wii-U is struggling. I suspect, and this is not to cause a flame war, the Wii-u is going to be dead in the water by the time the PS4 and xbox comes out.

Sued for what? It's just an emulator no ROMs are with it. ROMs are easy to get anyway, but with iPhone you can't just copy and paste like Android unless it's jail broken I think. Anyway Nintendo should be more concerned with their ROMs up to torrent for years for all of their concoles, but then again they can't do nothing about it, they never will and I love it. 🤣
