Dead Space 3 Will Feature Two Discs On Xbox 360

PGN - As expected, Dead Space 3 on the Xbox 360 will feature two discs needed for the Singleplayer portion of the title. For those who remember, Dead Space 2 also needed two discs.

Xbox users have to wait about six months after release for new titles to appear on the marketplace.

For whatever reason this is how MS wants it and they have recently said they don't plan to change this. It must be some type of deal worked out with retailers and marketing.

PSN is rubbish for full retail games. They cost like £60 which is just crazy! It's like £15 cheaper to manufacture the discs and packaging, store them in a warehouse, ship them to shops and pay an employee to hand you the game...

That's very true ambientFLIER, but while windows usually comes on a computer when you buy one from a store, otherwise its usually a one time purchase, you have to think about the amount of money Microsoft would be spending buying blu-ray tech for their next xbox not to mention every time they would sell a game it would technically be profit for Sony; so every console, every disc that's sold, would be profit for Sony.

Dead Space 3 being on multiple disks on the 360 isnt a big issue but GTAV being on something like 3-5 disks could be annoying. Imagine having to swap disks every time you changed citys that would be extremely irritating unless they do something similar like LA Noir but i have a feeling that with a game this massive they wont be able to repeat LA Noires splitting with GTAV on the 360.

I actually feel sorry for 360 owners if this happens to them. But hey you get what you pay for.

Obviously, the open world itself will be on one disc. That's not even something to debate. The very nature of the open world game, particularly GTA V with its three protagonists co-existing on opposite ends of the map at all times, demands the world be on only one disc. Besides, it's audio and pre-rendered cutscenes that take up the most space. Think of all the largest open world games and they are mostly on one disc, and the ones that require more than one disc do not split the map. L.A. Noire required 3 discs simply for the MotionScan facial animation technology. That giant 1947 Los Angeles map appeared in its entirety on all 3 discs.

I would bet GTA V ships on one disc, just like Rockstar's other two open world games running on the RAGE engine; GTA IV and RDR. Or at the very most 2 discs, with a one-time disc swap coming at the most natural point during the story. Rockstar is all about immersion and they would make sure the disc swap does not detract from the experience to even the slightest degree. As for a separate disc for multiplayer, I would say no, because in GTA the single player map IS the multiplayer map. There are not as many additional assets needed.

As for the topic of Dead Space and multiple discs, this brings back memories of Dead Space 2. That game was the only time having to swap discs actually affected my gameplay experience in a significant way, and it was actually a POSITIVE thing. I was going for the achievement to complete the game with only three saves, and the disc swap counted as a free checkpoint! Praise Altman for that!

The only way GTAV will be on one disk is if you have it digitally downloaded or you have the game partially on one disc and the rest downloaded. Stuff like audio, texture, etc... Open world game can be very massive in data. For it to be on a DVD disc, you going have to compress that thing to the max. Even if you can the performance of the game may suffer.

Yeah the problem with multidisc is not swapping the disc (even though it might be a little last genish). The real problem is open world games or games that cannot be chopped to several discs. They need to cut content and corners where ever they can to fit the entire map/game on one DVD. THAT'S the real problem.

But 360 gets Kinect commands where you can say things like "useless peripheral" and Issac then does the exact opposite what you tell him to do. I would love to be screaming at my tv saying reload and just have him keep bringing up the objective marker.

Dead Space 2(360) was already 2 disc while Dead Space 2(PS3 w/Extraction) was 1 disc so it's no surprise.

Wake UP! Alot of of games this Gen needed more than 1 more Disc. But instead of doing that. They just Cut content. THe 360 has held gaming back ALOt this gen. Do you think its a coincidence that 90% of every PS3 exclusive uses over 20gigs of space sometimes.
