I'm not being a fanboy, not supporting and attacking any company or game, it's a fact you can go and see by yourself. Go to a Nintendo new, see someone saying something like "I like the WiiU, having fun with it" and... see. Just see.

Its not that the ai is bad, its just that those things cant see. I think they said that they can only see with sound. The sound creates images for them. Like a bat, for example.

I see so the AI only has one sense to react to? sound. They would have to have lots of environment interaction(table bumping, random can kicking) where you would have to be extremely careful to keep the suspense and difficulty of trying to avoid them and stay alive. Standing right in front of one and shooting its head off doesnt seem that exciting or scary or difficult. I know you die hard ps3 supporters will disagree w/ me seeing my above disagrees but just hoping Naughty pulled it off correctly. That vid didnt impress me but I could be wrong.

You don't know how the AI played out based on one video. EVERY preview out there has not put the fungi AI is their concern most likely due to the fact they got HANDS-ON gameplay and tested out different scenarios. We know 2 things:

1) Clickers can't see. PERIOD. Your flashlight argument is void.

2) Being "alert" does not give enemies omnipresence. This is the problem with AI this generation. The enemies abilities are limited to either limited or NO sight.

Yes, if you were dealing with an enemy that relies something other than "sight". Did you remember the very FIRST trailer when Joel cocked his gun? That was when the clickers started to attack?

I don't see how your criticism is anyway valid, try reading all the previews and you'll realize the only concerns are either the "listen" mode or the unpolished graphics.

Did any of the hand-on reviews praise the fungi AI? Did they describe how intimidating they can be? I didn't see anything positive about them, which is a cause for concern IMO.

Other than that, your excuses for the bad AI are really terrible:
1) I mentioned myself that this argument is invalid because of the design. The point is that when you limit this sense by design, you need to account for that by increasing other senses - and this does not seem to be the case here.
Gears of War which is purely an action game managed to pull that one off with the blind Berserkers and you had to walk REAL slow if you didn't want to be detected. Why can't the enemies here properly react to sound?

2) It's not about omnipresence: it's about the ability to react to a single (or at most 2 considering the friendly AI) threats on the screen once being alert. Some games manage to have amazing enemy AI working in parallel to the player or a bunch of players.
Halo's Flood version of the zombies is one such great example of how to accomplish this kind of horror feeling without giving the enemies omnipresence, and the AI in L4D (especially for the special infected) is another great example - while the director in L4D does have omnipresence, the single entities do not, and yet they manage to provide an amazing and horrifying challenge for the player.
Anyone who encountered a witch in L4D knows how everyone switches immediately to "oh my god guys don't make a noise" mode, but here we don't see that the player even needs to account for the AI around him - he crouch-runs past them while throwing things and shooting and they just circle-round doing practically nothing.
The only time I saw an enemy actually hitting the player was when one just jumped on him from behind although he wasn't there a second ago - as if enemies just magically spawn behind the players like they do in Resident Evil (and GTA, and COD). I hope this isn't the actual case here, because this isn't a very good AI implementation IMO.

3) I guess that this is the difference between trailers and gameplay: the gun scene in the trailer where they started attacking was done great, but that was a trailer. In the actual game we actually see the player RUNNING (yes, he's crouching, but his walking speed is actually pretty close to full fledged running) past enemies making all kinds of noises (not just heavy footsteps). I would expect them to jump on you when you make too much noise but here they just seem to move randomly.

You have to understand that this is MY feedback (as well as thehitman's) based on what we actually see in the video and therefore we raise our concern. You're not a designer of the game so it's not even aimed at you. We simply want to see the best game we can get.
Why the sudden need to dodge feedback not even targeted at you and make excuses for it?

I love the way they make that clicking sound. Watched an interview and the directors said they do that because they can't see and when they make the clicking sound it bounces off walls so that the infected now where they are and so they don't run into walls or w.e. Even though they can't see I will still be afraid to sneak by them just because they have incredible hearing.

There was a boy in America several years ago who died from cancer in his eyes.

Naturally he was blind but what was amazing about him is that he did exactly this. He made a clicking sound with his mouth so that he could "see" where he was going.

I forget his name but it's on YouTube. He has since passed as the cancer came back years later. Not sure of the Last of Us used this remarkable story as inspiration, but it is very cool.

Looks like I will be getting my Survival Horror fix the gen after all, Those noises.. something about them.. Imagine your playing The Last of Us, your in a dark and small area, you think everythings fine.. you have no ammo, low health, no supply's, then you hear that clicking noise.

I will be playing this game on the first playthrough on the hardest difficulty, just as I do with the old Resident Evil & Silent Hill games.

This game is awesome i suggest you guys watch the gametrailer interview so you can really understand what is going on in this video. I mean the strategy, and tacical differences and ammo/ resource managment is a big part of this game. theres different types of infected some respond only to sound so thats why some arent coming at you when you have the light shined on them. Theres different people you team up with throughout the game classic tomb raider style as well as different people you can play as.

Graphics are phenomenal
Story will be top notch and quality. im thinking this will be like classic tomb raider meets classic RE with that special touch that naughty dog brings to the table with quality and flash.

Also guess what this is just the single player part! We dont even know what the multiplayer will be like which is just icing on the cake. Sp alone has me hyped.

It looks okay, the gameplay segments they showed earlier were way more impressive. I hope the majority of the game takes place in daylight, or at least ambient lighting, and not in the dark. The earlier segments look stunning, it would be a waste if most of the game took place in the dark.

I was excited for this game before I saw the crafting and atmoshpere, but after seeing that and watching the vid on IGN my excitement just went through the roof. Two different types of infected, human enemies, and a complete crafting system? Oh yeah, bring it on baby. Definetly count me amongst those who will be at the midnight launch.

I'm actually less excited now mainly because I'm not a huge survival horror fan. In fact, I'm not really a fan at all of the genre. The game looked so awesome with the footage they've shown before with the tense gameplay of the humans. I'd be interested to know how much of the game is in the dark like this because if it's just a little bit, I'll be fine and can get through the not so awesome parts (imo of course).

This game is too beautiful graphics wise to be spent inside in the dark all day as well. This went from a day-1 no doubter to a cautious preorder. I'll just have to see what details come out about the survival horror/dark parts of this game come out before I make a final decision. If you're a survival horror kind of person and like your dark corridors with creepy sounds, then this game is still a must buy for you but those of us who aren't just got a little scared (pun intended) of buying this game right off the bat.

That demo from GOW: Ascension I'll get to play will go a long way towards that as well I guess.

Everyone has different taste. But as a person that has been craving for a TRUE survival horror this Gen I honestly hope most of it takes place in the dark. The atmosphere and the sounds just add so much tension to this game. Everything shown here is how you do a horror game. I'm so psyched after watching this game play. Seriously man i cant believe im seeing those type of visuals on 7 year old tech. That cell in the ps3 is a beast!!!!!!! And i dont think we will see anything matching these visuals on any console until maybe the ps4 and next xbox drop!

People will downplay it and hate and say its linear lol hahahah which is funny to me being that most open world games are empty and devoid of many enemies at one time and there is a trade off in graphics, AL, enemies on screen, and they are very repetitious etc...... These games have killer graphics, push the story forward, have many more enemies on screen at one time and more action going on and arent as repetitious.

My only complaint is when he was like 15ft from the zombie, he flashed the light right into it's face, and it showed no reaction. Maybe that fungus thing engulfs there eyes and they attack off sound? Either was it's still my most anticipated game along with GTA V.

That's exactly it, the clickers *are* blind. As per IGN, the fungus grows out of their eyesockets before popping the head, they use sound to get around. Here's a quote:

"...These guys are called Clickers. The virus has taken over, and it’s grown into massive structures through the eye sockets. This blinds the Clicker, but that disability gives them hyper-sensitive hearing. As such, the Clickers make a clicking noise with their mouths and see via echolocation. The sound bounces off objects, comes back to the Clicker, and creates an image."

I love it. Adds a new gameplay element.

this video is nowhere near uncharted 2 level of quality (uc2 looked WAY better than uc3)

the sounds are also annoying, hopefully that is not final audio code and the game gets at least a pass of proper anti aliasing, the doors and windows are all crawling with jaggies, everything looks very, very sub-hd!

just think, if ms and sony werent such cheap bastards this game and halo 4 and many others could have looked AMAZING on new consoles, which should have been out in 2010/2011

i don't see how anyone is impressed with this, the ps3 and 360 both showed the best they could do long ago, yet like some strange, seranged cultists everyone on here sees a new sony game and act like its some huge improvement in visuals

the ps3 was TAPPED out the day it was made, it could only render 720p or less and BARELY do any anti aliasing at all, framerates are terrible in many games

you saw the best the ps3 was capable of back in 2009 at the latest

@taquito Are you crazy? Seriously, that's a legitmate question; I only ask because it seems you didn't play the same Uncharted series that I played. Uncharted 3 didn't look leaps and bounds better than UC2, but it did look better. The cargo ship and desert levels are proof of that. Also, have you not seen beyond:two souls?
Graphics can always improve on a system even if only slightly, as long as the developer puts enough care and work into their craft. Naughty Dog has proven throughout each generation that when it comes to graphics they are the best developers on any system. Want proof? Look at Jak and Daxter and then compare it to Jak 2; I swear it's like the jump from UC1 TO UC2. Read the reviews from IGN for ANY Jak game and you'll see what I'm talking about.Is the PS3 as powerful as a gaming PC? No, but I'd like to see any peice of seven year old hardware(including a PC) that continuelly comes out with triple A titles like the PS3.

I really think Sony and ND are being very very cautious in what clips they show the public on this game. But they are picking the right ones i believe. This clip shows potential but doesnt spoil any of the parts that will be amazing, like what they did with Uncharted 2. They pretty much showed all the best parts before it released but back then they had something to prove. Now they just have to announce theynare making a new game and they hav3 everyone's attention.

When did this turn into a zombie game? I first saw this game last E3 and I don't recall zombies. Maybe I'm forgetting?

Anyways, looks good but I am a little concerned about the AI. You can hear them talking right next to the zombies yet the zombies still don't attack or even go towards the sound. Someone said they can't see(so that would explain the flashlight not doing anything) but if that's the case, the zombies wouldn't make very intimidating foes. Just stay quiet and there's no problem. Do these zombies have super hearing? If so, then go back to what I originally said about them talking right next to the zombies and them still not doing anything. Heck, they made a lot of noise killing them and the other zombies still did nothing. I don't know. i guess it's nitpicking. I was a little surprised at the zombies though. I had no idea that's what this game was.

You did see the first teaser trailer right at VGA in 2011? How wouldn't you not know that infected would be in the game? Honestly this gameplay was the one I was waiting to see. There are so many zombie games but none have pulled it off correctly and just seem generic run and kill type of game. Truly this game handles zombies in a more realistic way. Tension builds up knowing that a single bad decision can end your life. It uses a lot of stealth but yet it keeps the fast pace going. Words can't describe the excitement I have for this game.

I saw the video of just the man and girl walking through a dystopian city and they encounter like 3 or 4 men and have to kill them. I don't remember any signs of zombies in that trailer. But like I said, maybe I'm forgetting something.

Regardless, I feel there were some inconsistencies with how the AI reacted. It's a small sample size of an unfinished game. Maybe they'll fix those inconsistencies by the time it's done? We'll see how it turns out.

I remember playing Heavenly Sword thinking those graphics were good, but they were just better looking than the PS2's graphics. ND makes games that play out like movies which entertains my girl as much as me.

The graphics were rubbish nowhere near the gameplay video they showed at E3.

...and all these people saying WOW ND brought back survival horror, from my understanding & belief they have but it certainly wasn't shown in that video. That was 1 large room with several bad guys in it that seemed to completely ignore you for the most part...by the looks of some of these comments I watched a different video to everyone else because it certainly wasn't creepy in the slightest!

I'm still keeping my pre-order but I have to admit that clip left me a little disappointed :-(

Guys, Adam Sessler mentioned that this was an early build. So the final product will be immensely better. They were only showing the infected antagonism and this hands-on only focused on gameplay, not graphics. Don't worry about the final, I mean....it's Naughty Dog.

Hardly expect them to give us an unfinished game.

People need to realize these are all completely different games and people are going to buy each one if they seriously want them that badly.

No way sales for this will heavily affect GTA V or Killzone even if it was on the same day, plenty of time to save for all these games as they aren't coming out anytime soon. If you are smart with your money buying all three of these excellent looking upcoming titles should be no bid deal.

I am broke for the most part not afraid to admit it and I already have money saved for all three although GTA V won't release on PC for a while so I am holding out on that but the others are first day for sure.

Got money saved for Soul Sacrifice and Tearaway also, all it takes is a little planning and a little saving here and there.
