LoL is just far more accessible than it's competition, and with that said I doubt any other MOBA will catch on in popularity.
Doesn't mean LoL is the better game but it doesn't mean it isn't.
judging MOBAs can be alot more subjective than other genres because the core gameplay is far too similiar in all it's incarnation; save for SMITE I suppose....but that game suuuuucks 8)
It's gonna be hard to impossible to dethrone LoL since they reached the casual crowd and are actually making them in to a hardcore fan base.

League has such a diverse range of Characters, constantly increasing both quality and quantity of content, and a company that really caters to the fans.
There is a Champion for everyone, and the fact you can access the basics of all content for free with enough time is highly appealing. Also the fact it's the most played Internet game with one of the strongest competitive scenes makes it even more grand. It's both casual and hardcore at the same time, addictive in it's simple yet elegant gameplay, you will be hard pressed to find a better MOBA (which is a small genre). Riot has truly found their place in the video game world
LOL is like the Call of Duty of MOBA's!
it's so CASUAL that it's not even fun to play cause so many Casual Gamers play it! It's easy to pick up and learn and has no challenge or CORE features.
Smite, Heroes of Newerth and DoTA 2 are so much better as they still have that CORE Gameplay that presents a challenge to purist.
Dota 2 provides more content than LoL in every single way. There literally isn't a thing LoL does that Dota 2 doesn't do better (and its still in beta).
