Pro Wrestling has had a very interesting relationship with video games for many years. Throughout the genre, one can find all kinds of flavors and unique concepts that have are littered throughout the various console generations. While most of the more publicized games were from one major organization of the wrestling business, there are some coveted gems that get a lot of credit for holding their own outside of the mainstream. It is arguable that wrestling may not have the same spark as it once had; fans of wrestling have plenty to love in some of the following titles that embody the best in the genre.
Def Jam: Fight for New York is a revered PlayStation 2 title among Hip-hop and fighting game fans alike. Create your own street tough fighter and hit the fight clubs of New York to take on iconic music artists for control of the city.
The amount of content this game has is crazy. No DLC or micro transactions. Deep fighting mechanics and people are still hosting tournaments on YouTube. Top 5 fighting games of all time.
I'd love to see it get a quality follow-up or at least a re-release though the licensing of the music and the rappers themselves is no doubt a nightmare now.
What classic WWF/WWE wrestling games are worth playing now? Quite a few, actually.
WCW/NWO World Tour and Wrestlemania 2000 were peak wrestling games. Back when wrestling was at the top of pop culture, everyone in school would watch. The gameplay is phenomenal and create your own characters opened up the door to WCW vs WWF. What a time!
The best wrestling games range from all-time classics on the N64 all the way up to some surprising new hitters you should check out.
I was always partial to the arcade wrestling games like Saturday night slam masters, wwf superstars, wrestlefest, wrestlemania, wrestle war and then a NES classic... pro wrestling. By the time the N64 era of wrestling games happened, I wasnt into wrestling much anymore (tv & games).
Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 & 2 > Most games on that list.
Also, WCW/NWO Revenge should be #2 minimum.
WWE 2k13 thanks to the WWE Attitude Mode. Followed by WWE Attitude and ECW Hardcore Evolution.
also: ECW! ECW! ECW!
Hours were spent playing wcw/nwo revenge in college. Good memories of that game
Wreslemania the arcade game is the best. Nobody messes with the bad guy...
Flawed list(no Smackdown?) but i'll take these games over all the recent wrestling THQ/Yuke games anyday.
Anybody won't to debate?
Many hours were put in WCW/NWO Revenge. Love that game.
