7 Changes to Make Wind Waker Wii U the Best Zelda Ever

Last week, Nintendo announced a new Zelda game for Wii U along with an HD re-release of Wind Waker. The author compiled a list of the seven most annoying aspects of the Zelda series that Nintendo should consider keeping out of The Legend of Zelda Wii U.

I love how this article wishes to state seven things that could improve The Wind Waker, yet most of the criticism is focused towards the entire series. Besides that I also disagree with most points.

However, I can understand why the author wouldn't enjoy PH's Temple of the Ocean King. It is considered by many as a game breaker. However, OOT's Gerudo Fortress is simply a classic. As a child I couldn't stop playing this part of the game. It was simply nerve-wracking, but in a really good way. TWW's Forsaken Fortress doesn't exactly match this experience, but it sure is fun to play. I mean, running around MGS style in a barrel, come on, that was pure fun.

The article then goes on and mentions time limits, hand holding, voice acting, low health beeping and limited-use items. These are all things that are directed at the entire series, so I don't see why these things should even be mentioned?

Oh, and about the sixth point, slow starts, I think that fitted perfectly with The Wind Waker. The game offered a brand new art style and the "slow" start allowed you to get used to it. You were able to sniff around in every corner of the island and this enhanced the experience for me.

#SPOILERS
If they should improve ANYTHING in The Wind Waker for Wii U then it has to be the Triforce parts. That part of the game right there simply sucked. I don't mind a bit of grinding, but having to collect a shitload of Rupees just to decipher a couple of maps in order to find pieces of the Triforce... Dear God, it almost ruined the experience for me.

That, and the lack of a third temple when obtaining the stones.

its actually the title in N4G that is wrong, the title on the site is for the next Zelda, not for WW

*sigh*

Typical. The contributors need to pay more attention then, not only the one who added this to the database, but also those who approved this.

I agree. The Triforce hunt at the end, who thought that was a good idea? It was just such a chore. Still an epic game, but that bit should have been handled in a completely different way

Its already the best zelda, in my opinion!

ElectricKaibutsu4096d ago

I can agree with the slow starts. I hope the next Zelda starts like A Link to the Past.

If they remove the stealth parts of Wind Waker i'm gonna be pissed! I actually like those because they require precision and they are very hard to do the first couple of times.

I don't see why developers have been trying to remove frustration elements from games i the last couple of years (minus Dark Souls ofc.) because i believe frustration to be a part of what makes gaming so good. When you finally beat something that seems to be too hard, it's one of the most rewarding moments in the game.

The only complaint i have about Wind Waker is the incredibly boring and repetitive triforce fetch quest near the end of the game. It could of been so much better, i.e Having Mini-Dungeons for each triforce fragment.

I'd put Street Fighter 2 over 3. 2 and all its different versions dominated the arcade scene back in the day in a way that 3 never did.

Agreed, Same with Metal Gear Solid imo. Came for Bioshock and was not disappointed. Would easily put Burger Time or Space Taxi over tempest. Also, OG Sim City and Oregon Trail. Mario 64 as well. Just too many!

Never played it I gotta get on this one

Double_O_Revan165d ago

Me too. I didn't have a GC until way later and never played it. I've been waiting on Nintendo to release the HD edition on the Switch for forever, but they just won't!

FinalFantasyFanatic164d ago

I never bought a Gamecube, I've always had an urge to play this game, maybe it'll get a remaster in the future.

LoveSpuds164d ago

I played it on WiiU for the first time and it remains my fave Zelda game to date. So much character and a real sense of exploration without the open world bloat.

Ms Pacman?
Robotron?
SSF2 Turbo over 3 simply by the 10000000000's ports of the game we're still having
Castlevania SOTN?
Zelda Link to the Past over Wind Waker
Super Mario Bros 3?
Chrono Trigger?
Resident evil4?
COD MW2 (the original)?
Uncharted 2
Metal Gear Solid?

Here's my reasoning for all of them versus the list proposed in the article.
They are still quite enjoyable from start to finish on their original platform, unlike some Wind Waker or Okami that are fun when you play the remastered version (unless you call: forced to watch a 20-minute cutscene or have to blow for wind chance constantly fun).
Some of them are the pinnacle of what the console could do (MGS, Chrono, MGS)
Lots of them are still considered the go-to-go game for their genre.

Said it before but Heart of Darkness is truly a timeless gem.
