DmC: Devil May Cry - The Crying Game | The Phuket News Review

It’s easy to see why DmC: Devil May Cry, only released just two weeks ago, has already gained a noted following from people other than fans of the previous version of the game.

And as a reboot, it keeps the legacy alive while also pulling in a story that is both interesting and “out there”.

Here is my review:

1 DmC is like every other DMC

2. Its cool but

3. OG Dante is better soooooooooo its the same DMC as past but with new skins.

"1 DmC is like every other DMC"

You clearly haven't played the original DMC games...

"2. Its cool but"

What?

"3. OG Dante is better soooooooooo its the same DMC as past but with new skins."

No, just no... OG Dante is better I'll give you that, but to say it's the same game reskined is completely inaccurate, 1st of all the combat is no wear near as deep and engaging, the platforming is much more prominent in DmC where as the puzzles where lacking, the characters, plot and art style are too different and far removed from the original to state they are the same.

(Edit)
@gamedebater

No, seriously it's not, that's like stating GoW is just like Dante's inferno, its the same genre with definite similarities but the style, mechanics and over all ambiance make for a very different experience.

gamedebater4103d ago

okay other than story and characters and atmosphere (skins)

its exactly like old DMC with a pinch of different combat.

the game formula is exactly the same

maniacmayhem4103d ago

@Zero

"1st of all the combat is no wear near as deep and engaging,"

That line right there proves you have NOT played the game or at least gotten very far. In fact this DmC gives you even more options and combo possibilities. In fact I would say it's a little too much considering damn near every button combination does something.

zerocrossing4103d ago

@maniacmayhem

Actually I have played it and finished it, granted their is a lot of customisation to the combos none of it really matters since spamming the Demon axe owns pretty much anything in the room except Angels.

Overall I found the whole game lacking in comparison to the originals, were skill was a bigger factor than timing a demon dodge and letting rip for easy SSS.

gamedebater4103d ago (Edited 4103d ago )

Uhmm im saying GOW is like GOW 2 and GOW 3

this applies to DmC

Think about it.... the skins are differ the gameplay formula is the same. sure some mechanics are a little different but no more different from COD MW to MW2 see?

point is the DMC linear formula is getting old. we didnt need a reboot we needed something more open and of course challenging.

and maybe a story that had some sense too but hey neither of them have a story that really makes sense. just different points of view.

Blacktric4103d ago (Edited 4103d ago )

"That line right there proves you have NOT played the game or at least gotten very far."

"In fact this DmC gives you even more options and combo possibilities."

And this proves that you haven't played the actual Devil May Cry games. A game that lets you switch styles on the go (DMC4) versus a game that lets you switch between a couple of different weapons (DmC) cannot be compared let alone deserve to be titled as having more options (talking about DmC). Play the actual games before judging someone for the sake of defending something. DmC is barely a shadow of what Devil May Cry 4 was in terms of gameplay features presented to the player. But of course, you can keep defending how amazing the platforming is or how amazing it is to pull off 2-3 different moves while thinking yourself as a great player.

inb4 hurr you hate it because of his hair

Dude the demon axe is not the end all be all you say it is. If anything its the Eryx. The Axe is way slow.

Devil May Cry is not only about a character skin. It's about an atmosphere, a gameplay, a story. And clearly, DmC is not like every other Devil May Cry games, especially the first one.

I don't say DmC is not good neither it's bad, I just say I can understand die-hard fans for not liking DmC, considering how different it is to the original Devil May Cry vibes.

Huh, a review from a Thai paper. Not something you see everyday!

I think this DMC is fantastic. A different spin is good for a series after awhile. Maybe the next one will be better.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC4d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos3d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga3d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer4d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6024d ago (Edited 4d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya3d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde3d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP3d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
