I played the Beta. I couldn't get to grips with it to be honest. I actually died so much I got bored. It looks great, and I love the idea of how it cross overs with EVE. As that game has always fascinated me, despite never playing.

But I'm not great at FPS like this and so I didn't find it much fun. But I'd still tell people to give it a try anyway.

I don't get the MAG comparison though. I loved MAG and found though it was 'slow' I could actually kill people. On Dust it felt like everyone other then me were bullet sponges.

For new players it's recommended to spec on to the armor and shield modules and possibly your weapon of choice. Getting the tier-1 dropsuit helps a ton thanks to it's 2x2 module slots.

One of the biggest faults in new players of Dust514 is lack of radar and map awareness and constant urge to go solo.

Soloing without sufficient stealth equipment is a suicide as you'll be visible in enemy radar as long as someone sees you making you an easy target. It's like sheep acting as a lone wolf.

Mr_Writer854099d ago

Most of that didnt make an sense to me at all :D

I am willing to give it another go, I am all for team playing games as I am not really a lone wolf.

It was just the always dying and never being able to get a kill that started to ware me down.

These might give you some direction. I used my starting SP to following skills:

- Assault rifle operation L3, Caldari Assault dropsuit L1, Weaponry *, Field Mechanics L1, Armor Upgrades L1 (* allows use of damage modules -> more offense for cost of some defense )

Note: You need to play few games to save up for the ISK for Caldari Assault dropsuit skill (maybe 1-3).

This gives you access to better assault rifle(GEK-38), better Dropsuit, Armor modules and access to damage amplifiers as well.

Make fitting with 2 shield modules and 2 armor modules and GEK-38, pistol and basic grenades.

This gives you fairly solid ground for AR-infantry to start with. If you like AR you could try improving the Light weapon sharpshooter for more effective range (make targets further away less spongy)

Currently My K/D with this is something around 2.5 - 3.0 and have managed to score rounds like 15/1 with it (using DS3)

Agreed, I like what they were aiming for and it seems decent enough but with all the menus and options it seriosuly overwhelms you before you even enter a battle.

I guess its rewarding if you give it time but it was just a little too much for me.

kneon4098d ago

I found the UI to be possibly the worst I'd ever encountered in a game. I don't know if it's changed any since I played the beta.

r214099d ago

Gotta agree on the menus, there is just so much stuff on there that I leave them as it is and just use whatever's on me already. Despite that, loving the emphasis on teamwork in this game >:D

Lvl_up_gamer4098d ago

I know in it's current state it's only a beta so it's hard to say right now, but I was very unimpressed with the game. It is a free game which is a very positive incentive to play but so is Planetside 2 and I felt Dust 514 pales in comparison. True one is on console and the other is on PC so it's not really a fair comparison but I was under the impression Dust 514 would be open world like Planetside 2.

I really like the deep rpg elements of leveling up your character's suit, weapons and perks. However the game and gameplay is very barren.

I honestly don't see Dust 514 succeeding and will be a wasteland within 6 months of release...but we will never really know because Sony doesn't release numbers.

pecorre4098d ago

I'm a Planetside 2 player and I was wondering if I should download the Dust 514 Beta... Looks like I have my answer. Thanks!

Lvl_up_gamer4098d ago

I would say you should still Download it.

That was only my opinion of the game. You on the other hand might like it. I would say give it a try and see for yourself. There are some really deep game mechanics while others feel shallow.

If you have access to the beta, you should at least try it so you know for yourself.

1 mans opinion is another mans argument.... 8)

FunAndGun4098d ago

They really need have closed servers for brand new players that have just downloaded the game.

Most of the matches I have played so far have been really uneven. There are always a few players that have way better equipment/armor that eats bullets and weapons that spit death.

For someone who is trying to understand the gameplay and options, getting killed over and over by someone with a better loadout is extremely off-putting. I consider myself a pretty avid gamer and FPS player and even I was getting frustrated, I could only imagine how real new players would feel.

Viper74098d ago

From how the game plays, I am thinking more on the lines of more profitable but tougher battles for players who have played for longer.

HammadTheBeast4098d ago

Faction warfare coming soon should take better players out of these pubstomps.

Holeran4098d ago

A bit of a learning curve at first but it seems pretty fun to play (i've only logged a couple of hours). This morning I played a skirmish match that took about 40 minutes and once you get the hang of things it gets better. Seems pretty deep as a fps as well which may give it long legs.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies2997d ago (Edited 2997d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden2997d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave2997d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater2997d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace2997d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven2997d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater2997d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit2997d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
