Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush will Remain Free on PlayStation Plus Until Summer in Europe

Ever since PlayStation Plus came to the PlayStation Vita back in November 2012, both Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush have been available for free. It was always known that they would be part of the Instant Game Collection for longer than a usual game, but the specific time frame was never nailed down.

Yeah, it'd be a shame to miss out on these two.

Wedge194096d ago

Only 5-6 months left top pick these up! Man, I need to grab them soon! Is it because there are no other big Vita games to replace them with? I mean... last week's free game for NA was Foosball 2012.... for both PS3 and Vita. That's weak.

TrendyGamers4096d ago

There will be a new free game this week in NA, hoping for something good.

Wedge194096d ago

Looks like it's Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus for Vita. Nothing for PS3 Plus members though.

8bitHero4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

After that basketball game ps+ update the foosball made me want to bash my head on a wall(not seriously but you know what i mean :P) the only good thing about the foosball update is that it cant get any weaker than that... but then again I said the same thing about the basketball one :/ i should keep quite before we somehow get something worse.

Skate-AK4096d ago

If they gave away every big title they would give away like every Vita game away within like 7 months. Im happy for getting Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. Not happy about pricey memory cards.

dbjj120884096d ago

Seriously, everyone freaking play Gravity Rush right now. One of the best games on Vita, hands-down (second only to Persona 4 Golden).

Froakie4096d ago

Touch controls killed Golden Abyss for me.

8bitHero4096d ago

agreed. that game is a perfect example of how NOT to use touch controls or none of that other crap. it was like it was only there to be an inconvenience

Godchild10204096d ago

It didn't kill me on the game, but it didn't make me want to play it over and over like the main games on the PS3 did.

TheFirstClassic4096d ago

I got used to it. The melee I actually enjoyed by the end, but some things just felt out of place.

anonrus4096d ago

and the tilt controls killed GR for me. I honestly just don't get the buzz about this game. I got it on release day and thought it was crap. the story and whatnot are ok, but the gameplay is weak. and the side missions are frustrating. maybe im doing it wrong. but gr is far from my fav vita game and I have bought just about every available vita game.

dafegamer4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

nah GR is anything other than crap bro
edit: it can be that you forgot to upgrade Kats stats,
thats why the frustration. People seem to forget to upgrade the stats

r214096d ago

Tilt controls made attacking enemies even better and in a way funner IMO.

Forget Gravity Rush movie, give us another GR game!

porkChop98d ago

I didn't even know a movie was coming. If they can get the visuals and everything right I'll watch it.

Barlos98d ago

I didn't either, until this article. I'm also surprised, since GR was a commercial flop. Seems weird that they'd want to invest money into making it into a film.

I think the games are great though, especially on Vita. I think the move to PS4 killed the experience a little, but I'd still like to see a new one.

1Victor98d ago

I didn’t know it was in development ether but it makes sense after they saw the first doctor strange movie and the far from home fight, if it’s like that’s it’s going to be one of those Oscar nominees

Cacabunga98d ago

GR movie and shutting Japan Studio.. so stupid

porkChop98d ago

@Cacabunga

Oh yeah... Well there goes any hope for a new game. Shuttering Japan Studio was a really bad decision.

Surely you’d think if the movie is coming so is another game

And I couldn’t be happier.

Only played the demo of gr2 but let me say it’s one of the most artistic and inventive new games. Ps5 will power gr3 to new heights
Fingers crossed

Made my day hearing this.

Finally, something innovative

Redemption-6498d ago

GR2 flopped, which would they make a new game? A movie has more appeal and a successful hit at the bix office, could lead to a new game for the franchise

ChasterMies98d ago

Ok, I’ll stop sitting on Gravity Rush 2. It’s been in my library for only 8 years.

Chocoburger98d ago

Play Gravity Rush Remastered first if you haven't already, the stories are linked together. GR 2 is a fantastic game, it has a lot of stuff to see and do. In fact I have purposefully not completed the game 100% because I simply didn't want the game to end. I still have some trophies to collect, and a whole free story DLC chapter to play through.

Gravity Rush 3 would be amazing! But the team that made parts 1 and 2 were shut down, so I don't expect it to happen. This was Jim Ryan's biggest sin of all, shutting down PlayStation Japan Studios. What a shame.

FinalFantasyFanatic98d ago

Why not both? I really like the games and was disappointed we didn't get a third game to finish off the story, but I wouldn't mind a movie either if it's well done. Maybe it'll drum up enough interest to get us that third game.

damn that is aaalot of ppl

id rather have another Gravity Rush game than a movie tbh

DarXyde98d ago

Same. This series really resonates with my gaming spirit. I love these games so much that I got four platinums out of two games. I was always dreading that we would never get another game after Japan Studio's closure, but I'm feeling hopeful in them not giving up on the franchise with this move. My guess is that they're going to use this as a funding point

MrNinosan98d ago

That is the same amount as daily loading screens... never mind

‘Gravity Rush’ Film Based On PlayStation Game In Works From PlayStation Productions

hmmm... I mean if it's anime it could work. I have a hard time envisioning it in live-action.

isarai603d ago

Why are they making shows/films based on IPs they abandoned? First Days Gone now this, why?

DarXyde602d ago

Yep, agreed.

Like I often say, every 2-3 months, I'm bitching about what Sony did to Japan Studio and Gravity Rush.

This is annoying, honestly.

LoveSpuds602d ago

I loved both Gravity Rush games but I honestly don't see how you can blame Sony for leaving the franchise alone after the second game. It was good business sense, sadly the games simply didn't sell well enough to warrant the risk of developing a 3rd game.

DarXyde602d ago

LoveSpuds,

To me, my gripes are with the way Sony is handling shelved IPs versus best sellers. Sure, Gravity Rush is super niche. But the problem I have is that those games are punished for not selling well. Compare that with high profile IPs that sell a lot. They get PC versions to reach a wider audience. I guess what I want to say is that those games were already commercial successes and it seems a little backwards to not make an effort to expand access to those niche titles to PC if we're already going there, y'know? Games like Horizon and Spiderman did damn well on PS4. Certainly. But I also think the PC audience is incredibly diverse and games like Gravity Rush would perform much better on PC. It's just disappointing to see them give up on games that didn't do well on their original platforms and disband the studios, but make PC versions of system sellers.

I don't know. I just feel that, if Sony is going to put their games on PC, why not give gems like Gravity Rush a chance at a second life and keep the studio around? Their games aren't really what I would call big budget, so what harm does it do to allow them to remain?

Eonjay602d ago

@DarXyde I could actually see that happening. In fact the faster Sony could convert more games to PC the better for their bottom line. But, logictially, since they are primarily using an inhouse specialist to ensure QOL in their PC ports there is only so much content they can put out at once and this is going to cause them to prioritize their bigger releases. I want to see them expand the Nixxes team so that they can work on more projects at once. Right now we know of 5 games in the PC port pipeline. So there is going to be a bit of lag getting them out. And clearly, Sony don't want to burden its other console studios with handeling PC ports. And in some cases, like with Gravity Rush, the studio doesn't even exist anymore.

The_Hooligan602d ago

I am hoping that the movies do well so that Sony might greenlight a sequel game for both of them. In my opinion both gravity rush games are great and only thing that held back Days Gone was the slow pace in the beginning but afterwards the world opens up and it's a great game and both these IPs deserve a sequel.

jznrpg602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Spot on. The first 5-10 hours is a bit slow weapon & skill wise and the bike died fast and was slowish especially if you didn’t know where to get gas . After 10 hours or so you start getting upgrades and cool weapons and your bike can travel farther/faster it was an awesome game. I think most reviewers didn’t get past the 8-10 hour mark and reviewed it off of that plus there were some bugs At launch but they fixed most of it fairly quickly

Inverno602d ago

The same reason why they keep making all those awful Marvel movies. Capitalize on the demand for more of these games, make some low effort/low budget movie, waste most of the money on advertising, profit. I worry for how the GOW, and SoTC movies will end up.

jznrpg602d ago

Maybe they get more interest in the games through movies and we get sequels . If it works out that way I don’t care how many movies they make

EvertonFC602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Days gone could work well as a series imo but I get what you mean.
Hopefully days gone is a massive success to green light another game.
I think it's great all this gaming into movies or TV series tbh and think they should have done it long ago ie heavy rain would work well, ratchet TV series or Bloodborne TV series etc.
Having said that it's important to remember some will turn out better than others and some might be just crap.

Wow they really going ham on these films

-Foxtrot603d ago

Sony are going crazy at the moment with adaptations and I really think they need to slow down and make sure the first project or two they already have in production is good before they start churning these out

Sony Pictures is not like Sonys Gaming Division, they are idiots, they couldn't even get Spiderman right without backing off the MCU and now you have Spiderman-less spin offs, Venom was meh, Morbius was awful and we have Madame Web, Kraven, Silk and more coming out.

Sciurus_vulgaris603d ago

The films based on the Spider-Man-rouges are likely pumped out so Sony Pictures can maintain its Spider-Man film license. I’m surprised Sony didn’t just sign a production deal with Marvel Pictures. Sony could have produced Spider-Man and other associated films for Marvel as part of the MCU. While Marvel Pictures handled the story and overall narrative direction.

CaptainHenry916602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Madame web? That would be ridiculous and comical if they release that

GoodGuy09602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Oof... should just be an anime. Live action ain't everything.

10 Years Later — 'Uncharted: Golden Abyss' Deserved a Better Fortune

A relic of its time or a buried treasure from the past?

darthv72791d ago

I was really hoping this would have made it into one of the collections. Like how they did with the GoW PSP games.

VenomUK791d ago

I recall just playing the start on PS Vita but not much more and many Uncharted fans wouldn't have played it either so this 'unknown' chapter could be ripe for an expanded version for PS5.

TiredGamer791d ago

Agreed here. Played it back on the Vita years ago, but never finished. The cramped Vita controls and the tiny analog sticks just didn't gel with me in a game where precise headshots are half the fun. It's the first Uncharted game that I haven't completed/Platinumed, and I think much of it is control related. Really wish it was PS TV compatible (natively).

I would definitely buy it if it were released as a PS4/PS5 version.

YoungKingDoran791d ago

If you ever play it again on Vita definitely turn on the gyro aiming assist, made it alot more fun to play and i ended up getting all the headshot trophies thanks to this- super accurate

TheEnigma313791d ago

I loved this game. It was like an extension of the first one. Why haven't we gotten an HD release yet?

TiredGamer791d ago (Edited 791d ago )

Lack of available dev resources and lack of a lucrative ROI probably. I think Sony has an opportunity to sell it as a separate, standalone HD remaster for like $20. Otherwise, the effort to convert a PS Vita game to the PS4/5 won't be worth their while. Unfortunate, but that's probably the only way it'd make financial sense.

deleted791d ago (Edited 791d ago )

Some of the puzzles/interactivity would have to be completely reworked. I remember having to hold the camera to a bright light. (I remember being annoyed at that part bc I was playing in bed late night while my wife was asleep next to me. Ran to the kitchen at like 3am just to get past it lol)

Also the swipe battles. I absolutely couldn't stand the final boss because the swiping felt so inaccurate and it would constantly misread gestures.

I adored the rest of the game though, and even the story! It couldn't simply just be rereleased, it needs reworking for consoles. (same reason it didn't get PS Vita TV support) The rubbing parts could still work w Dualsense/DS4 though.

I'd gladly welcome it and do hope it happens eventually!

Muigi791d ago

Glad I still have my Oled Vita.

MadLad791d ago

Sony should have tried harder to support the Vita. It ended up just a solid emulation machine that happens to have a handful of classics.

Bigman4k791d ago (Edited 791d ago )

Yeah Sony gave up on the ps vita way too fast

Bigman4k791d ago (Edited 791d ago )

I really like Uncharted:Golden Abyss on ps vita it would be dope if they remaster it for PlayStation 5
