The Upcoming Gaming Apocalypse For Major Publishers

"There has been a lot of talk about the demise of THQ in the past few weeks, a lot of finger-pointing and a lot of curiosity if we’ll see this expand beyond their company and if we’ll see other major publishers go the way of the Dodo bird. " | Explosion.com

THQ did a lot of bad decisions, this is why they had gone under.

i bet if they never ported u-draw for PS3/Xbox 360 they would still be around, but the damn thing development was so expensive and it bombed in such way that they could never recover.

i don't see EA or Ubisoft even caring about this.

I think you are missing the point the article was trying to make.

If Sony and MS go for consloes that are way more powerful than the current ones then you should see a a very big spike in game developement which means that games will cost twice as much to publish and they will have to sell games at $70 or more.

Alot of people are downing playing the many Android gaming devices that we are getting like Ouya but next gen alot of publishers will move from the big budget console games to the smart phone, PC, tablet market.

If Angry Bird and MineCraft sales are anything to go by then look forward to this happening.

'If Sony and MS go for consloes that are way more powerful than the current ones then you should see a a very big spike in game developement which means that games will cost twice as much to publish and they will have to sell games at $70 or more. '

Which many people have been saying for a LONG time, but get trashed for it due simply to the overexpectations of people who just don't get it.

This past generation was too expensive for Developers. We have to take a step back. Luckily we can do that through the 'GPGPU' and still move forward a little with console visuals.

Give them all a generation to catch their breaths and pad their bottom line a bit before we expect another huge jump. At least that's how I feel.

AtomicGerbil4106d ago

Personally I believe developers and publishers are claiming that development will cost substantially more with the next generation consoles so they can justify charging more for the games.

Some PC titles are already pushing more than what we can expect from consoles yet the price isn't inflated with those. Something to ponder hmm?

A lot of time (and consequently money) is spent optimizing code on the current consoles, which will be less of a constraint on new hardware. So with all that in mind, future development should cost less, certainly not double.

@knight_crawler

I think your missing the point pc has been more powerful than console for a long time now yet its still surviving yet development has not spiked too much beyond what they are already paying to develop on consoles

badappe4106d ago

@cee773

i think you're missing the point that almost all games that released to PC are dumb-downed console ports.

illuminati wants a one world publisher!

deno4106d ago

Hate to see a classic company go down, but that's what happens in life. Sega and Ubisoft picked up majority of the studios, so there's faith in the future.

Pointless hardware heavy products and terrible leadership. Not that I wish the demise of THQ in any form, but its not surprising.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers6h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

z2g2h ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing2h ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H92h ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

SegaSaturn6691h ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle1h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

As part of its plans to cut 1,900 jobs, Microsoft has reportedly shut down operations at Bethesda France, letting go roughly 15 people

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN15h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos12h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

GamerRN5h ago

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

peppeaccardo7h ago

"MIcrosoft leaves Bethesda do what they know how to do best" ... close! Oh the irony ....
(Citation from a week old article)

ChasterMies3h ago

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger15h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Mr Logic1h ago

What a stupid thing to say. The elites give 0 fucks what we say on an obscure website in the comments section.

Crows9049m ago

You can always reach out and give them jobs at your company man. Don't wait

Profchaos17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto17h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos16h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long13h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel16h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator15h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg18h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos18h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola13h ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
