My Parenting Skills Improved with Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead

GotGame (Alex Co): By Now, chances are you already know Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead is a great game. What with it winning Game of the Year awards from various outlets and selling well, too.

But what makes it an excellent experience? While I can’t speak for everyone, for me it went into a place I didn’t thought possible and that’s making me want to be a better father. Without going into boring family stuff, I’m already a dad. My daughter’s 5-years old, which isn’t all that far from Clementine who’s 7 years old by the time the first season wraps up.

I think my outlook on parenting improved after I beat heavy rain for the first time. Ethan Mars will go down in history as the best "dad" in gaming.

As a father of a 4 year old son i can say that no game has ever affected me the way the walking dead has!

******Spoiler*****

After Duck died i sat there with the tv paused for almost 10 minutes & just couldnt say, think, or do anything! I went & gave my son a kiss while he was sleeping & just couldnt even try to imagine!

****End Spoiler*****

Great game!

if you need a video game to help you with your parenting skills, maybe you shouldn't have kids... you were probably pretty bad at it to begin with if a game about the zombie apocolypse has given you incredible insight into your paternal goals....

seriously, we should neuter people at birth, and only after rigorous testing should they be deemed worthy for breeding, its not like this planet needs a constant influx of the lowest commmon denominator

90% of the worlds probelms are caused by over population anyway, the less morons in the world the better

we should give tax incentives for people to stay single and never procreate, they use the least services, don't take up public schools and are not a burden on the state, yet we reward all the poor, fat cows who shoot out children constantly with more 'gubment money.......the world is so stupid.

@ taquito

-a little harsh maybe???

lol

damn dude, I do agree about the taxes though, its stupid to tax a single man/woman more than someone who has five kids all in public school

every kid you have your taxes should go up 3% or something

kma2k4098d ago (Edited 4098d ago )

im never one to discuss politics but i would assume the government wants more people to be able to tax next generation & the next generation & so on would be the reason why they dont want to stop or disuade people from having kids. Less children means less soldiers & taxable income in the futre.

At least thats my conspiracy theory mind at work lol

I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing taquito isn't a democrat.

He didn't say the game helped him become a GOOD father, he said that the game gave him insight into a couple situations he hadn't thought of before and that made him a BETTER father because he now has an idea of what to expect and how to solve the problem if it were to arise.

I don't think rigorous testing is necessary if you're meaning only the intellectual elite should be able to procreate. I agree if you mean only those who are actually competent parents and aren't shitty people or idiots should be able to, though.

I agree with the rest, except for that one word, "single"; the relationship you have with another person shouldn't matter when it comes to taxes, but the number of children should (the more kids, the heavier you are taxed).

I agree with taquito on this one. If it takes a video game to make you aware of how important your actual children are then perhaps you need to see a parenting counselor in real life

Telltale Games and the New Golden Standard for Storytelling

Before the announcement that a heavily narrative focussed Walking Dead video game was announced in 2012, Telltale games was a development studio that not particularly well known. Despite putting out other similar properties with Back to the Future: The Game and Jurassic Park: The Game, the products were largely met with a very mixed and ultimately tepid response from the public. The rampant acclaim and runaway success reached with The Walking Dead launched the developer into one of the most anticipated and favourable studios out there with one revolutionary product.

I think the walking dead story telling is amazing. I really love the games and think that they bring the respect of gaming story telling up in the world of entertainment in general :)
