Miss a game the first time around? So did we. Find out which games are worth going back for with Backlog Reviews when the newest releases squeeze your wallet too tight. This time around, Dark Souls for Xbox 360 got a look.
"Dark Souls: Archthrones is like playing a brand new FromSoftware game, and that speaks volumes about just how much good modding can do," says Hanzala from eXputer.
Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way. Why?
i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)
I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.

I get why people like Dark Souls, I really do, but I honestly grew to hate it. Maybe I'm just a baby but dying all the time and backtracking to where you died just to die again grows tiresome and annoying. My friend and I have since dubbed it Dark Trolls, seeing how the game essentially trolls you from start to finish.
It's just not for me I guess, to everyone that likes it kudos to you and I'm glad you had fun. :)
About to dive into this once I finish Dead Space 2 and maybe some demos like MGR:R. I promised myself to play one game at a time to wipe out my backlog but more and more keep coming out... anyway, I don't know if I can keep that promise. I know someone who put something like 670 hours into Dark Souls. I think I'll have to take a break with The Unfinished Swan or something. I am not great with dying all the time and repeating. God, Dark Souls is daunting. Not sure if I can do it.
Greatest series. 5/5.
Ya I get why people don't like them. But the souls series is my favorite of this whole gen.
Played Dark Souls, I really liked it, I'm a sucker for atmosphere and this game had ATMOSPHERE. My fave memories of it were going through Blight town without dying after I got to the first bonfire (died twice at entrance cuz of poison darts) including Queelag (summoned my first online partner and whooped her a**).
Second was Tomb of Giants, I died so many times and hated it but felt so satisfied when I killed Nito. I always died because I was so scared of him and was running more than fighting, eventually I stepped up and killed him and all his Skeleton Giants on the other side of the room and the happiness I felt of finally leaving that evil place hasn't been replicated since.
I think the common misconception about this game is that its fun to die. Not once when I died was I like "F*ck yeah, that was awesome" but its the feeling of getting better at the game and finally beating a boss and getting through an area that you were stuck on forever that is so rewarding. Plus like I said the atmosphere is SO GOOD.
I just got a PS3 and I'm gonna buy Demon Souls the second I find it.
