I don't think Gameinformer has ever given a JRPG this gen, a really high score. This is one review I can't wait to read.

Godchild10204117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Here is the text review for Ni No Kuni. They are the pages from the Magazine. Here is a better view of the review, I posted them on VG charts.

They call the battles "random," which is really inaccurate. You can see the enemeis and even right away, avoiding them is possible a good amount of the time.

Plus, through questing, you can get spells that make you run faster, making evasion all the easier.

PLUS, if any time your level gets particularly high for the area, monsters in that place will run away FROM you! So yeah, that bit about "random battles"? LOL, more like "play the game to completion, reviewer."

AsimLeonheart4116d ago

Very disappointed with Gameinformer. They give a 7 to a game that has been getting several legitimate perfect scores. I have lost respect for them and will be careful in the future when considering their reviews.

Sigh4116d ago

Should change their name to *Gamer Uninformed* now lol.

mrbojingles4116d ago

Why would any of you invest much into a magazine's reviews? You can make up your own minds. For AsimLeonHeart to care so much about the game getting bad reviews among other good ones seems silly.

Why would you lose respect for them over one review, which isn't even scoring it that low? Is it that easy to lose respect? Without even reading the review?

Sure, it could be a terrible review and not what you personally feel about the game. But its still their opinion and they have the right to it.

I don't lose 'all respect' for my friends when we have differences of opinions.

joab7774116d ago

Yeah, usually i am right with them but this may be absurd. Remember that they gave FF13 like a 9.25 or something. I havnt played it but the demo is great and from sources sl far, including ign, this game isnt just really good, but great. And theres no reason that the reviewers so far would have to be in the tank. So, i am perplexed by this. Oh well, its a day one for me.

StreetsofRage4116d ago

Interesting. Game Informer is my number 1 choice for gaming reviews. 7 is pretty low for them. They're usually spot on with their reviews. The IGN review which is my second choice for gaming reviews still got me excited for Ni No!

BanBrother4116d ago

Spot on? I caught them out a while ago with their differing CoD BO2 reviews. GI I subscribe to (not renewing, nothing to do with these reviews), and most the time they review games too high, compared to other sites. And then this game that I think is very good (as well as most other reviewers) they give a lower score to.

I am constantly disagreeing with their reviews, as well as what is contained within them. Plus, the last good pre-order incentive they had was in 2011 from the July, Darksiders 2 cover (free poster!!).

GI only like shooters, as that is their (gamestop) biggest source of income.
We will wait to see how it stacks up against the flood of reviews incoming.

joab7774116d ago

It isnt even the 7 that bothers me but all the games that they give higher scores to. I woulda put money on the fact that it was game of the month but i guess that would be stupid with dante around. Maybe they had the wrong guy review it. They used to do 2nd opinions.

Oh_Yeah4116d ago (Edited 4116d ago )

Always go with the metacritic score to get a better ballpark idea of quality..many critics averaged together means a little more than just 1 guy from a mainstream mag in which I'm sure some are swayed by $. I bet Ni No Kuni will average at least an 85 and I'm sure it deserves the great reviews. Can't wait to play it.

mrbojingles4116d ago

Always go with playing it yourself to get the best ballpark idea of quality

vanethe4116d ago

DMC 9 , and this get only 7 !!
i didnt play any of these games but i think it should get at least an 8 , and DMC at most 8 !

palaeomerus4116d ago (Edited 4116d ago )

Yeah but you didn't play either game so...what you think they should get is based on what exactly? Or is this clever snarko-parody?

SOULJER4116d ago

I'm surprise gameinformer is still around.

mrbojingles4116d ago

Why even joke about that? I get that you may not like them, but they are the second most popular magazine in the US. Like 4 million + subscribers.

Its not like they're even remotely in danger so the joke seems fairly out-of-touch.

kingPoS4116d ago

Maybe they're just used to action orientated games not made in Japan.

mrbojingles4116d ago

Yes, because there has to be a reason for this average review score because we can't accept that one person had one different opinion than other people on the internet.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC5d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos4d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga4d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer5d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6025d ago (Edited 5d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya5d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde5d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP4d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

5 Years Later, Devil May Cry 5 Still Quenches My Hack-And-Slash Thirst Like No Other

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Devil May Cry 5, the latest iteration in the iconic DMC franchise by Capcom, still holds its own as a fantastic hack-and-slash in 2024."

Where the Heck is Ni No Kuni 3, Mun?

Matt from We Game Daily writes: "Cross Worlds isn’t going away. It’s making a small fortune, particularly in Asian markets, so there’s no reason for Level-5 to pull the plug. That said, there’s no real reason why a full PC/console sequel can’t be developed alongside efforts to support Cross Worlds."

While Ni no Kuni 3 would be cool, if it was like the first game, where is Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy 2?

phoenixwing100d ago

I thought the dev recently went mobile and Japan only. They shut down their American offices. So don't expect anything for consoles

shinoff218399d ago (Edited 99d ago )

I swear they just announced a few new games.

https://www.nintendolife.co...

phoenixwing99d ago

I stand corrected then. Never heard about these games and also i just remember ni no kuni online being mobile only.

Michiel198999d ago

they said a loooooong time ago that Level 5 was working on a new installment but there has been no news since afaik. I just hope that they take more inspiration from 1 than 2, especially when it comes to the story.

thorstein99d ago

Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds is the mobile game you're thinking of.

It looks amazing but I don't like to play mobile games.

Yeah the sequel was okay but had nothing on the first game, especially the battle system.

The story just didn't have that charm and even the twist at the end of the game wasn't really anything cool like Wrath of the White Witch.

Also the fact there was like ZERO mention of Oliver or his adventures in the game, no references, nothing was such weird. It's set a hundred or so years after but still, I'd have expected to seen some throw backs. I think we just got like a temple with his statue in it or something.

goldwyncq99d ago

If you want more Oliver, just watch the movie.

shinoff218399d ago

Fking word. I've been hoping for this for quite some time.

melons99d ago

The premium games didn't sell amazingly, right?

shinoff218399d ago

Not to sure. They should of though. They were pretty good. I like both.

Michiel198999d ago

yeah, especially outside of japan. They should have released on pc at the same time as the ps3 version or a short time after.

Inverno99d ago

They should've worked with Ghibli to put out a proper movie. Should've also made a Pokemon-esque spin-off rather than make Yokai Watch. If they do make a third game they gotta work with Ghibli!
