I agree, the article makes no mention of the traditional Bethesda game-breaking bugs and glitches, busted DLC and complete lack of QA.

I'll wait for the real info regarding another reskinned yearly crapshoot from the most incompetent development studio in the industry before I get excited about buying their latest turd.

Actually scratch that, I think I'll probably have my eyes on Dark Souls 2 instead!

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34119d ago

Yeah, you're obviously one of those folks that plays Bethesda gamesbon the wrong platform.

SilentNegotiator4119d ago

@alien

I play all Bethesda games on PC, and I've noticed plenty of game breaking bugs, especially quest glitches.

SolidStoner4119d ago

Fallout.. one of my favorite games.... hope they dont screw it up... I really want fallout new vegas type gameplay, with those crazy deserts and everything, with new quests, better ending and no Skyrim type bugs...

landog4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

lol....people getting mad it runs awful and looks terrible on 8 year old hardware, it ain't Bethesdas fault, blame ms and sony, there should have been new consoles out in 2010 or 2011 at the latest, skyrim was expected to ship to next gen platforms...todd howard even said this in an interview, but the game was done on pc and no sign of new consoles, so the rush ported them down to ps3/360, hence it running even worse on 360/ps3 than oblivion

it was NEVER intended for 8 year old hardware!

i have played every Bethesda game since morrowind on pc, without a single game breaking bug, in flawless 1080p at 60 frames

the only things i have had happen in both skyrim and oblivion (never morrowind or fallout 3) was my avatar got stuck in a rock, but, i save every 5 min. so no big deal, reload and don't jump on that rock.

Bethesda create some of the most immerive, deep, and massive worlds around

sure, when you make something that has 6000 hours of content in it theres bound to be a bug or two, but look at the games with 5 hour single player that have bugs, and people say Bethesda games are buggy

play them on pc, they run amazing, look amazing, and at least for myself and the 20 or so people i know who play Bethesda games on pc, there is very, very little bugs

Pintheshadows4119d ago

Dear Landog,

If you are to type utter drivel please make sure it's believable, or alternatively go to a knitting website and spout your nonsense as they won't be able to call you on it. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and especially Skyrim as is are all bug ridden on the PC much like Fallout 3. It isn't a secret.

And I sincerly doubt you know 20 people.

Sincerly,

Pintheshadows.

SephirothX214119d ago

Oh come on now! They make massive open world games where quests can be played in so many different orders that its easy for bugs to get through testing. They don't make corridor games like Gears and Uncharted where there is zero freedom. I've played the pc version and noticed very few bugs and I've played over 300 hours at this stage. Have multiple saves and you'll be fine. Bethesda are one of the best studios in the world. Just look at the average ratings for their last three games. Maybe you've never written an application so you might not understand how difficult some bugs are to find.

Tr10wn4119d ago

@Pintheshadows

I play most of the games you mention for more than 100+ hours each and never found a game breaking bug like most people which i know are playing Skyrim on PS3 said so, i played Morrowind for both XboX and PC never found a game breaking bug played Oblivion on PS3, 360 and PC and never found a game breaking bug, Fallout 3 and NV on PC and never found any game breaking bug, Skyrim on 360 and PC and once again never found a game breaking bug, all those games had bugs like every other game out there the key word is "Game Breaking Bug" i never found one, on the other hand i know Skyrim is broken on the PS3 that is why i don't believe or care for anyone who say something negative about Bethesdas in N4G.

DasTier4119d ago

@Tvensky "Skyrim type bugs". The worst glitches i've seen in a Bethesda game have been on 360 Fallout 3 (would constantly freeze at a major quest point, even restarting the game didn't help so the game was effectively broken) and New Vegas on PC which forced me to restart the game just before the battle of hoover dam. Only glitch i had with Skyrim was dragons flying backwards (was patched) and in Oblivion I fell through the floor a couple of times.

Drabent4119d ago

I think u mean Crapovision and their Lag of Duty games.

psyxon4119d ago

@jimbobwahey no. just no.

@ujean69 Bethesda didn't develop New Vegas, Obsidian did. They did release some patches for it though.

aliengmr4118d ago

@Silent

So have I. In after well over a decade of playing games on PC I'm used to bugs and glitches.

But, when Bethesda or anything related to them is mentioned whose the first to start losing it? It never fails, with in a couple posts the PS3 hive-mind unleashes hellfire.

Not sayin they don't have a reason just that its a pretty predictable occurrence.

grailly4119d ago

I sure hope so. The fallout world is by far my favorite world to be in. I do not want it at all to be cyberpunk.

Reverent4119d ago

I don't think you should immediately dismiss another universe just because you're more comfortable with a different one. You will miss out on so much that way. Especially since there are better post-apocalyptic world games than Fallout. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R games being a great example of that to come to mind.

grailly4119d ago

I love fallout's world and it's the main reason I'm exited for a sequel. If I wanted another universe I would play another franchise.

I'll be happy to play other cyberpunk games, cyberpunk 2077 for instance. I just want my gritty, empty, no-electricity fallout

there are more reasons to me loving the fallout world than it being post-apocalyptic. I love the humor and the lore, discovering vaults is exiting and often funny to see how the people lived.

Reverent4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you. I just don't think you should limit yourself to "just" Fallout lol. I too love Fallout but there are still games that do that "gritty, empty, no-electricity" concept better. Honestly, Fallout has never given me that impression. Fallout is full of colorful characters with great personality, and this makes the games feel far from lonely. For me, I don't feel much like I'm being forced to survive and scavenge when playing Fallout games (Like I did in the stalker games). Again, don't get me wrong, because I don't consider this a bad thing at all. I have a ton of fun with Fallout; I just think there could be a slightly better emphasis on the "post-apocalyptic" part of the game.

grailly4119d ago

I don't think you get what I'm saying. I like fallout how it is. It strikes the right balance for ME. I don't care if STALKER has post-apocalyptic better, it doesn't have the humor. I don't care if I don't need to scavenge, it's not what I want.

I love the music playing, while you do the most horrible and funny choices.Cyberpunk would take that away as it's a retro-future from the 80s, you would get 80 music, I I just like that 50s music.

Anyway, I'm not sure about these rumors, it can't be a direct sequel and a direct sequel at the same time.

I don't limit myself to fallout, but when it comes to fallout it's the fallout experience that I want!

Smokeeye1234119d ago

Yeah everyone listen to claud3 he is an industry insider with realtime information updates on the inner circle of Bethesda games. Whatever he says is the truth.

elhebbo164119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

well its a rumor. for all we know they could do any city in the east coast, or west for that matter.

edit: didn't read about bethesda taking pics in boston.. now im excited.

Blacklash934119d ago

Color me excite. Loved Fallout 3. The depressing atmosphere, strangely haunting music, and bleak scenery were all incredible and what I loved the most from it.

grailly4119d ago

yep, and that's all gone if the go cyberpunk...

Sidewinder-4119d ago

"Bethesda has no plans to reinvent the leveling up system to make it more like Skyrim."

"Bethesda is thinking about introducing a system, similar to Skyrim,"

Okay?...

joab7774119d ago

It makes sense and the rumors have been around concerning the institute for awhile. Anyway, I want more of a true rpg than skyrim. I hate that u can level up every skill with a particular class. But the difficulty is much better in fallout, so there's that.

Fallout 4 – Why Was it So Divisive?

The RPG has seen an explosion in popularity thanks to Amazon's TV show, but it was Bethesda's most controversial Fallout for a long time.

thorstein21h ago

I loved it. And I platinum'd it. I guess it's like most "divisive" games. If you don't like it, so what? Let those that do, enjoy it.

Eonjay13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

The article is trying to create fud where there was none. It has an 87 meta (on PS4). There is nothing divisive about it. It was well received. Period. I don't remember any arguments except for some performance issues when it first came out. Thats it.

VenomUK11h ago

I really enjoyed Fallout 4.
I loved the halfway goal of what you are building towards. I had a good sense of what it was and then when you finally are almost there the music builds up - beautiful!

@Eonjay Forget the meta scores there are plenty of people who loved Fallout 3 but thought Fallout 4 was a bit of anticlimax and I do get it. Pete Hines the retired head of Bethesda's PR was even asked about it, and his answer was that it was because it simply didn't have the novelty of being brand new that Fallout 3 had.

Profchaos3h ago

No venture beyond that so many of the hardcore gatekeep the franchise hard as 4 was far more popular and simplified many of the rpg elements refined shooting to the point where vats was optional the game was far more accessible and sold the most out of every franchise entry to date.

It's my personal favourite I get why people love 3 or NV but I do hate seeing people crap on 4 and the people who like it.

ChasterMies17h ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t so much divisive as not very good. But there aren’t many first person RPGs so what else are fans of the genre supposed to play?

FPS_D3TH17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I think it was the lack of morality gameplay and lack of path to completion options compared to what fallout 3 and New Vegas offered. I think the issue mostly arose because of the voiced protagonist and how many lines of dialogue that needed to be recorded. Didn’t leave for many options beyond “good” “sarcastic douche” and the odd question or two for nearly every interaction. Personally I thought the game was fantastic as an adventure and exploration game, I liked the park system and base building, but the rpg aspects were fairly gutted. It made shooting much more tolerable too but it still wasn’t anything fantastic. The faction choices were ok and I felt like they all provided a more grey moral choice dilemma compared to older games which felt more good/evil but it wasn’t presented as such as prominently as I would’ve liked. You had to do some more internal and critical thinking of your own to come to decide why you’d support one faction over another unless you were in it just for some in game benefit or another.

kneon7h ago

I didn't like any of the factions, so when it got to the point that I had to choose, I chose to stop playing

jznrpg6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I finished the game but you are correct. I was thinking I don’t really know which one to pick as I don’t really care for any of them. I was near the Institute so I just went with that quest line. A lame way to choose who will win but I didn’t really prefer one over the others

EazyC17m ago

I don't think FNV was good/evil. You have evil with Caesar's Legion, then everything else is different shades of grey imo and quite relative to your own political views! 😅

Friendlygamer16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

1 Bad writing, the main quest is terrible. The sense of urgency of the story is at odds with the open world nature of the game

2 Boring, bland factions

3 too much personality for the main character. The game decides that you're married, that you love your son, your voice... a rpg like fallout should have a blank slate mc

4 dead open world. Fallout 3 and nv have a bunch of small cities and locations on their maps that give you interesting quests and dialogue. In Fallout 4 it feels like 80 per cent of the map is focused on combat and environmental storytelling, it feels more like a post apocalyptic action game rather than a dialogue heavy rpg

Fallout 4 is a very fun open world fps with really cool environmental storytelling but a very poor rpg

Got it installed on my PS5 ready for this. Not sure I'll play it very much though because I didn't like the settlements feature, it just never seemed to gel with me.

Looking forward to giving it a shot though

just_looken1d 21h ago

Use manual saves keep them backed up on ps4 it was a crasher

Just a fyi

Barlos1d 17h ago

Hopefully it won't be after the update. Mind you it'll probably introduce some new bugs 🤣

Yui_Suzumiya1d 5h ago

I was lucky and had minimal bugs at launch in 2015. I got the platinum trophy a month after launch.

Seth_hun1d 17h ago

You probably need to download the native ps5 version, its not just a patch

Abear211d 11h ago

This was my question, article states it’s a native version so will need to re-download when it releases.

Hoping it’s not a Bethesda buggy mess as the game has been out forever, but not holding my breath. Also unsure if saves will transfer, unlikely as again it’s a new version of the game

banger881d 9h ago

"Not sure I'll play it very much though because I didn't like the settlements feature, it just never seemed to gel with me."

Doing the settlement related crap isn't mandatory, feel free to ignore it.

anast1d 21h ago

Hopefully it's playable by now.

just_looken1d 21h ago

tod: Can you load the start menu?

q&a: yes

Todd: does it load in allow you to move?

Q&a: yes

Tod: Great its gone gold ship it that is the quality we here strive for.

TheEroica1d ago

Naughty dog would've charged us 70 bucks for this. Thank you Bethesda!

anast21h ago

@Eroica

It's free because they are going to let AI do most of the work.

15h ago
Barlos1d 17h ago

It was always playable for me on my PS4 Pro. I don't recall any issues aside from the usual 'Bethesda Bugs'. Nothing even close to game breaking.

just_looken1d 12h ago

Now yes but first year it was very bad and you had to watch the save file size

Barlos1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

@just_looken

No I mean even back then, I can't recall any significant issues. Funny thing with the save file size is there were serious problems with Skyrim on PS3 because of the save file, until it was patched. Seems that Bethesda just don't learn.

Abear211d 11h ago

Far Harbor was barely playable on Pro for me, it was a slide show in the fog. I’ve been waiting for this patch for what seems like forever!

1d 8h ago
brando0081d 17h ago

Tried to play it again on PS4 last week to finish Far Harbour, the game kept crashing on launch. Hopefully this new patch let's me start the game lol

Abear211d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

If Far Harbor is butter smooth and this baby has a smooth release overall I’ll take back everything terrible I ever said about Bethesda. This is the best game they put out in the last ten years. Still betting on a Day one patch incoming though and probably more to come. They should allow pre load bc their servers are gonna get boinked.

Profchaos1d 2h ago

Yeah far harbour on the PS4 was playable for me but wow did that fog cause significant slowdown killed off any desire to explore and instead I would go point to point as fast as possible.

gold_drake1d 16h ago

theres not rly much to know, other than the update comes out next week haha

Abear211d 11h ago

Here’s the one Pro Tip you need—play as Evil, it’s impossible to keep track of who you are supposed to be for and against with all the Factions—I say F them all and play Evil so it’s no stress! Lol

kneon1d 11h ago

I never finished the game because I got to the point where the game really wanted me to pick a side, I didn't want to side with anyone so I just stopped playing. It's pretty rare for me not to finish a game, but it just got boring.

Fallout 4 jumps to No.1 across Europe following TV show launch

Four Fallout games break into the European Top Ten following TV show launch

gamesindustry.biz
Obscure_Observer4d ago

Truly impressive!

European Weekly Top 10 (Digital + Physical)

1 Fallout 4 (Bethesda)
2 Helldivers 2 (Sony)
3 EA Sports FC 24 (EA)
4 Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar)
5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision Blizzard)
6 Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar)
7 Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros)
8 Fallout 76 (Bethesda)
9 Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda)
10 Fallout 3 (Bethesda)

anast3d ago

RDR2 in the top ten is impressive. Bethesda games will drop off the list in a month.

thesoftware7303d ago

Lol, you hate Bethesda so much now because they are owned by MS, not realizing that those games are all on PS, that most likely the reason they are back on the list, which by the way is excellent for 3 single players games that is really old...so your salt means nothing, we don't expect them to be on the list for months, shit we didn't expect to be on the list now given how old they are.

Bravo to a successful franchise and now T.V show.

anast3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I'm not lying. The longevity of RDR2 is impressive. The Bethesda games will drop in a month.

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

@Thesoftware. No people people have disliked Bethesda way before MS. Ever since Fallout 3 they've released buggy, broken, graphically dates, poorly animated, terribly voice acted games. The difference is the scale of the game when FO3 dropped was still fresh. In 2024, games standards have risen and people won't give Bethesda a free pass whilst the rest of the industry has got betterans in many ways surpassed them.

dumahim3d ago

I was tempted to fire up FO4, but then remembered the settlements, and raider attacks and crap like that. Then I found out about FO London coming out soon, then that got delayed.

ZeekQuattro4d ago

I've been playing FO3 and NV and will no doubt start up 4 again when the current gen patch drops.

neutralgamer19923d ago

There was a rumor that Bethesda maybe doing FO3/NV remastered collection. I hope they do and bring some quality of life improvements. Both games are awesome but could be better if done right given the remastered treatment

ZeekQuattro3d ago

I don't mind the backwards compatible versions on the Microsoft store honestly. Both 3 and NV have quick load times and FPS boost. I originally played FO3 on the PS3 so it felt like a different game to me with those changes alone. My FO3: GOTY expierence on the PS3 was bad enough I didn't even bother with NV until I got a XBO.

I wouldn't say no to a remaster however. Feels like now would be the time to announce it what with a hit show boosting awareness for the IP. We'll see what happens.

Duke193d ago

Loving the show and it 100% has me itching to boot up a FO again. The only question is whether to replay 3, NV or 4

Michiel19893d ago

The show is really good, it's everything I expect from a video game adaptation. The main audience being the fans of the franchise, new viewers not being the target audience was not what I was expecting.

Demetrius3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They been doing good on game love action series nowadays that's wassup I'm glad they managed to catch the fallout vibe in the show
