Cyberpunk 2077 and Why You Should Be Very, Very Excited

CDProjekt Red released a new CG teaser trailer for it's sci-fi themed roleplaying adventure yesterday. And man - you should be excited.

For those who don't know, Cyberpunk 2077 is based off the lore from the Cyberpunk 2020 Pen and Paper Roleplaying game, initially debuting in the late 80s.

We haven't been shown any game play, but I'm not worried - because these are from the geniuses who brought us the masterpieces that were the Witcher games. Enough said, as far as I am concerned.

So what is Cyberpunk? Lemme' esplain - no, there is too much; lemme' sum up.

The moment I saw guns I lost all interest. I like the developer so I'll keep an eye out and see how this game turns out.

Allsystemgamer4119d ago

Oh my not a gun!

How many games have released with melee weapons primarily swords?

Cablephish4119d ago

*cough* Chivalry: Medieval Warfare *cough*

hylandpad4119d ago

Mount and Blade, Chivalry, War of the Roses, then there's also EYE: Divine Cybermancy, Warhammer 40k Space Marine has a pretty robust melee system too. Then there's that over-produced Dynasty Warriors Franchise as well.

Sad fact of the matter is - melee weapons just aren't as fun to play in FPS or even TPS games. Hacking limbs off in chivalry is fun, and yeah it's actually probably more skillbased than shooting, but IMO it also gets repetitive, and quickly.

TheGamerDood4119d ago

I'm not getting my hopes up until I see actual in-game gameplay. nope not going to do it. not this time. not again. :'(

ATi_Elite4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

It's made by CD Projekt RED!

END OF STORY!

Also it's Cyberpunk which we need more of along with Steampunk as I grow ever so tired of Modern Warfare!!!

I may not be a huge fan of Cyberpunk or even familiar with more than a hand full of examples of the genre but I was pretty sure this was going to have guns in it the moment it was announced.

In fact by the looks if it, the video is pretty much exactly what I was expecting although I'd still rather have had it been in game. I can't say I'm hyped up but I'm definitely intrigued and am looking forward to seeing more and am hoping for the best.

I love what the video did show, and am curious if the man in white (or gray?) might be the main character, an important npc, or simply pure tease. Whatever it is, its a very "modern" interpretation of a Bladerunner-esque setting and want to see where it all ends up.

As I said... Don't know many examples but its what I can compare it to the most.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4119d ago

You want a cyberpunk game without guns?

hylandpad4119d ago

Cyberpunk typically has guns though - Warhammer 40k, Shadowrun, Blade Runner - all these Intellectual Properties feature extensive use of futuristic weaponry.

However, I am inclined to agree with you - CDProjekt Red, in my mind, can do no wrong.

Wait...you know guns and Cyberpunk go together like Peanut Butter & Jelly right ?

I was so pumped for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game ended up being pretty good, but it wasn't quite up to the standard of its predecessor. The world needs more Cyberpunk-themed games. I'm excited for this game as well as the new Shadowrun Returns game.

More cyberpunk. Less post-apocalypse, please.

Welshy4119d ago

"More cyberpunk. Less post-apocalypse, please."

This entirely depends o the game, genre and studio in my opinion.

Cyberpunk was pulled off brilliantly in Deus Ex, but if rumours are to be believed that Fallout is going in that direction, i don't think it would fit.

It fitted the tone perfectly in Deus Ex as the subject matter of the game was built around it, while Fallout was made for post apocalypse and the bleak, baron wastelands are what sucks me into Fallout everytime and would feel out of place in another style.

Like i said, totally down to personal preference, game and genre.

ApolloTheBoss4119d ago

YES. This is probably going the first open-world Futuristic (Not retro-futuristic) game ever created! Please correct me if I'm wrong.

sdozzo4119d ago

Need gameplay to pass judgment.

OmniSlashPT4119d ago

Games have the power to create unique, unrealistic and fantastic worlds, yet, most of the devs this gen just chose to go for the realistic war scenes or post-apocalyptic zombie crap. We need more sci fis, steampunk, cyberpunk games!

NYC_Gamer4119d ago

I'm excited to learn more about the game

Well they are using unreal engine now thanks to there work culture and horrific job on making cyberpunk so for the future no impact.

7 disagrees shows how many look at one dlc that had a rip off fight from ghost in the shell and goes wow what a goat team i love cdpr while ignoring that they only made 2 games that were good witcher 2/3 in 20yrs.

But its a new world we want a criminal that support's legal murder as president/support shoplifting love toxic work environments and have a mass casualty event every other day.

GhostMirror1d 2h ago

I’ll admit I didn’t play it at launch, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a really good game now.

And who the hell knows what you’re even going on about in your second paragraph here.

EazyC1d 13h ago

Wait a min...I swear to god CP2077's source code got leaked before. CDPR needs to stop using "password123" for all their accounts 😅

just_looken1d 3h ago

Na its hundreds ex employees no doubt just getting there revenge.

Profchaos1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

This is the same leak the threat actors have been trying to sell the source code after cd project didn't pay the ransom.

They didn't manage to sell the source code to any company largely because it would be unethical for say EA to buy it so the threat actors failed to find a buyer.

After they failed to make any money they went through with their threat of simply giving it away.

They will need to add everything they promised in the first one and not over promise on the second one.

just_looken1d 12h ago

They also need to drop esg then hire employees that have knowledge not hire them because they have a set of tits.

Official video they hired people to fill the esg clipboard

Hofstaderman1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

As somebody who has been playing the tabletop games since the 90s and was let down on launch by my PS4 version, you can bet I'm not going the preorder any sequel.

nmbr1esq1d 7h ago

3rd person option, and everything else that was originally promised. Next don't force agenda driven naratives. Finally, release a finished product without need for day one patches.
