Looks Like THQ's Owned Properties Will Be Auctioned Off Anyway

Alex Navarro from Giantbomb writes: "After the financially strapped publisher's last minute bid for bankruptcy was held up by complaints from creditors, THQ agrees to auction its assets to individual bidders."

Red Faction to live again! Sell it now THQ.

majiebeast4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

What i hope.

Warner bros-Darksiders
Sega-Warhammer 40K license
EA-WWE those games were mediocre anyway
Ubisoft-Saints row
2k games-Metro,South park and CoH

BanBrother4118d ago

Yeah sports games doesn't matter who it goes to. EA are bad, but 2K shut down servers for their basketball games a little over a year later.

I like Metro, South Park and Darksiders. My brother like Saints Row. THQ have been good to me, and bad. It is sad to see them go nonetheless.

Just goes to show what happens when you actually try and bring new IP's (Darksiders, Homefront, Metro), all with mediocore sales. Sad, as Metro and Darksiders at least were excellent games. And people wonder why we have so many online bro-shooters? Maybe because they sell (Ironically, Homefront is just that lol).

The Great Melon4118d ago

Just please don't let any of the good ones go to EA. I actually want to play most of the games on PC without ever having to avoid Origin at every step.

rainslacker4118d ago

@Melon

Unfortunately the good ones are the ones that will be worth the most money. EA has quite a bit, and it would be safe to assume they would be looking at popular IP's to bolster their library.

Smaller publishers may look at picking up the niche titles. It all depends on what the pubs think they can make off the IP. Also the pubs have the power to get better prices because THQ has no bargaining power.

BakedGoods4118d ago

I hope Ubisoft won't touch Saints Row. They have enough open-world games in their portfolio. I think Darksiders would be a great addition to them.

I agree with you 2K choices!

BanBrother4118d ago

@Baked

I agree. Darksiders 2 and Ubisoft was the first thing that popped in my head. Ubisoft made PoP and Assassin's Creed, and countless other games with parkour. So they could only improve the running/climbing in Darksiders (Darksiders 2 did a great job of the running/climbing, but it was still hit and miss).

Sega did good with Bayonetta, so Darksiders would also be alright with them. Only problem is that Sega will drop the franchise as soon as they realise it isn't making them $$$.

Bottom line is that I will be happy as long as EA, Acti or Capcom don't get anything. Sadly, by recent reports, there is a strong chance EA will be buying at least something out of this merry picnic basket of assorted goods.

WetN00dle694118d ago

Yea........NO Saints Row should go with another company. Ubi has been known to dangle from Sonys nads therefore any DLC released with the game will probably be Ps3 exclusive so NO just NO!

akiraburn4118d ago

@BakedGoods, I'm with you there. I think 2K, WB, or even potentially Sega could do right by Saints Row, and generally speaking I think they'd take care of most of these franchises. It'll be interesting to see if any of the big three console makers come bidding on these. I think the most desired IP will be Saints Row, and securing that could be big, but I don't think any of them are in the market for that kind of an acquisition, if it is even possible based on how prior contracts and all that have been written. In any case, it is a real shame that THQ is going down. I was really hoping they'd pull through this.

@BanBrother, agreed man. Just based on recent history, if EA gets their hands on any of these IPs they will almost assuredly become a streamlined production, and as a result the quality of the titles could end up suffering. If Activision nabs anything it could very well be an even worse situation with less development times and/or budgets. Doubtful that Capcom will cast their lot in this, but in that case I think the most likely IP they'd go for would be Darksiders.

Now I'm not usually one to speak out like this, but I really have enjoyed the quality and support of titles that have been appearing from THQ over the past two or three years now both on Steam and console, and changing publishers to any of those three (EA, Activision, and Capcom) could result in things like no Steam support, bad PC and/or console optimization, poor quality assurance, and/or entire cancellations of a franchise. That is where my primary concerns lie.

DeadlyFire4118d ago

WWE is under license deal with THQ until 2018. Only WWE/THQ can amend it. I suspect they will amend it sometime between now and then though.

As far as properties go some might not be under THQ's ownership just because they publish them.

Anything licensed or published from another developer could potentially stay with the company.

SnakeCQC4118d ago

im going to bid on darksiders

An intro to Biomutant

Alex & Mike talk Biomutant, a game from Experiment 101/THQ Nordiq you likely have not heard of. While the AAA side of the industry tends to homogenization and imitative, cinematic presentation, “AA” games remain creative and innovative in 2021. Drawing on inspirations as varied as Dark Souls, third person shooters & kung fu cinema, Biomutant is Ratchet & Clank on acid, developed by a team of 20 people.

THQ's Golden Wii, Meant for the Queen of England, has been Found

Remember THQ? They published such games as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Darksiders I & II, the Destroy All Humans series, Homefront, the Red Faction series, and Saint's Row 1-3. Almost as famous as their games were the THQ marketing stunts, including a Golden Wii.
