Team Ninja boss defends Wii U CPU, insists console is “definitely next generation”

EDGE - Yosuke Hayashi, head of Team Ninja and director of Ninja Gaiden 3 and upcoming Wii U revision Razor’s Edge, has poured scorn on the claim last year by Metro: Last Light developer 4A that Nintendo’s new console was hamstrung by a “horrible, slow” CPU.

Well, to clarify, he insists the system is next generation when speaking of how you interact with the games. On speed and power alone however, it isn't much of a jump, and therefore he states it isn't next gen. The title of the article is a little misleading.

Regardless, I am having a blast with my Wii U, and it will serve nicely as a compliment to one of the next gen machines from Sony or MS.

Nitrowolf24119d ago

This, I liked how Sony put it, by saying that the Wii U is in a gen of its own. Sure it may not exactly be next-gen when it comes to power, but the play style and interaction is different than other consoles today.

NukaCola4119d ago

I buy Nintendo exclusives for Nintendo systems. I only need HD Nintendo games. My primary system won't be the Wii U, so I am more than happy with what the Wii U will offer in the future. But for the future of consoles, Wii U isn't what people truly wanted or really hoped for.

decrypt4119d ago

Console gamers.. Dont care about graphics.

The console def is next gen.

BitbyDeath4119d ago

@decrypt, you got it wrong, as long as devs don't sacrifice gameplay for graphics like the Crysis series then console gamers do care about graphics.

There just needs to be a balance.

Megaton4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Same as the Wii. Limbo gen. Stuck between gens in a place only Nintendo can find.

OpenGL4119d ago

@ Neonridr

How much better is Trine 2 really on the Wii U anyway? All 3 console versions run at 1280x720 with FXAA. I own Trine 2 on the PC and it looked great at 1920x1080 on the max settings but I can't imagine any 720p console version looking that much better(if any) than another side-scrolling 3D game like Little Big Planet 2.

Kevin ButIer4119d ago

I'll wait for a price drop.

Neonridr4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

@OpenGL

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

you can see for yourself. While it's true that all 3 consoles run at 1280x720p, the PS3 and 360 use a dynamic resolution scaling technique to help maintain it's framerate (meaning that the resolution will dip below 720p at times to help keep it at its 30FPS), where as on the Wii U it is natively locked at 720p and that framerate.

The Wii U version also uses higher resolution textures and foliage assets.

Frozenbyte also went on record stating that the reason why the Goblin Menace DLC was not released for the 360 and PS3 was due to the fact that those extra levels are too demanding and they would have to make some sacrifices to have them run on those consoles.

http://nintendoeverything.c...

Obviously the PC version is the definitive one, and I never said anything other than that. But console wise, the Wii U version is clearly the best.

For anyone stating that Trine 2 isn't a very demanding game, then you aren't helping your argument at all. If that was the case, then the PS3 or 360 would have no problem keeping up with the Wii U version.

Anyways, just my 2 cents.

What!!?

The Team Ninja Boss needs to STFU until Tomonbu Itagaki returns to Team Ninja, to make great Ninja Gaiden games again! Currently, its a POS Team Ninja!

Until then STFU, Please!

"Team Ninja boss defends Wii U CPU"
http://youtu.be/0dgMFinyMiI...

Did he defend the gpu or the fact that team ninja barely even took advantage of the controller?
Maybe next gen but team ninja didn't care to try to fully take advantage of it's features.

Nintendo just putting themselves into the position of being the odd console again. Unless both MS and Sony have screen controllers wiiU will just get ported tacked on features from 3rd party devs. And the casual market not being as excited this time around doesn't help.

Those who don't push visuals say it powerful(trine 2 devs, team ninja).

Those who push technology are not impressed. (Dice, 4A).

Crytek says it's as good and somewhat better than xbox and ps3.

" Crysis series, more than functions on Wii U. It actually runs beautifully. Wii U is minimum on par with the current generation."
http://www.ign.com/articles...

The best thing I like about wiiU is the ability to stream my games around the home and Nvidia made that possible today with pc quality! Turns out I could stream from pc to android to tv.

Plug and play in any room. :)

Neonridr4119d ago

As if Trine 2 doesn't push visuals. If that was the case, then the 360 and PS3 would have no problem running the game as fluidly as the Wii U. Trine 2 has gorgeous graphics and high resolution art assets. The lighting and particle effects are top notch. Sure it's not a FPS, but that doesn't mean it isn't system intensive. Again, if it didn't hog resources and the 360 and PS3 were supposedly more powerful than the Wii U, they would have no problem keeping up. Instead, the Wii U version is the best looking console experience and shares many of the features only found in the PC version (minus native 1080p resolution - the Wii U is only native 720p).

It's funny how people here claim that Trine 2 is such a weak game, but yet the 360 and PS3 have trouble keeping up.

DaPrintz4119d ago

Neonridr, the reason why Trine2 is better on WiiU is because they had over a year to refine it. All of us played it last year.

Megaton4119d ago

Itagaki is a hack. Couldn't make a good camera angle to save his life.

The 720 is almost confirmed to be equal in power to wiiu,ps4 is meant to be the most powerful.

Plus power isnt referred to the graphics just the over all ghz ect architecture is what's important.

POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER means zero if the console can't be maxed out consoles need balanced hardware adding tons of power just makes your electricity bill higher and ends up with more problems like over heating burning components ect basically the more power the more unreliable END OF,Power doesnt mean graphics just numbers.

deafdani4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

"The 720 is almost confirmed to be equal in power to wiiu,ps4 is meant to be the most powerful."

I assume you're saying this matter-of-factly based on some rumors you read in some shady websites? I'll let you know: I read some rumors somewhere that the PS4 would be closer in power to the Wii U, and the 720 would be the most powerful. Weird, uh?

There's a lesson to learn here: rumors aren't worth shit.

SolidSystem4119d ago

PS4 and 720 are almost identical.

riverstars864119d ago

Someone needs to contact the authorities, metroid32 is on drugs and not the good kind! Lol

MasterCornholio4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

Wow look what we have here. A nintendo fanboy whos terrified of the Wii U being the weakest next gen system.

-face palm-

What kind of Nintendo fan do you think you are? The only thing you do is defend the graphical capabilities of the Wii U. You dont even mention on how the controller can add to the gameplay. Miyamoto would be ashamed of you for placing graphics over gameplay.

So what if the Wii U is a little bit more powerful than the 360. Isn´t the most important aspect of games gameplay and not graphics? Which is why you should be bragging about the controller instead of the Wii U graphics capabilities.

If all you care about are graphics then buy yourself a gaming PC.

@SolidSystem

It will probably be a repeat of last gen. Basically the Wii U will have the most innovative control scheme but it will be so underpowered that most games for the 720 and PS4 wont run on it(this is what most Wii U purchasers fear like Metroid32). The 720 and the PS4 will be about the same with Microsoft concentrating on Kinect and services while Sony will focus on the core.

nirwanda4118d ago

I think the 720 will be the most powerful next gen console but i'm worried MS are goin to bung it up with too much blotware thats going to slow it down like windows.

specsmatter4119d ago

I often dont agree with some of your comments but this one i agree 100% as long as you enjoy your system thats all that matters!!!!!

Mutant-Spud4118d ago

Some people also really like games such as Little King's Story, Animal Crossing, Drawn To Life,Harvest Moon etc, not really my cup of tea but my wife and daughters played the hell out of those games on the WII.

Gamer19824118d ago

No the problem is these devs have now invested million in the console and the public are bot buying it so they are coming out and supporting it in voice so people will buy it hopefully so then they will buy there games. Your not gonna slate a console your developing for are you?

I'm getting a Wii U when it has an established library of games . Right now there aren't many games for me to jump on after getting a Wii U. It's next gen people, it's a brand new generation for Nintendo and I cannot wait for what it'll bring this time around.

metroid324119d ago

Nintendo no how to max a console better than anyone Mario Galaxy 1/2/Zelda SS are incredible for wii hardware imagine what they can do with wiiu ???? plus the gameplay and frame rates are always top notch along with graphics something only a few developers can achieve.

specsmatter4119d ago

I know hundreds who disagree lol maybe thousands and millions. No one maxes out consoles better than ps3 devs no oneeeeeeeeeeeee Guerilla games, ND, and a few others so stop it!!!!! Games made by these devs are twenty times more complex and technologically sophisticated than any on any other console. So much so that Uc2 and KZ are still graphical benchmarks for any system and Uc2 won tons of awards for graphics alone!!!!!!

Y_51504119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Why go against each other? Sony, Nintendo , and even Microsoft has first party studios that "max" their own respected console. Super Mario Galaxy and Skyward sword (A couple others that I like but aren't as popular)for Nintendo. Uncharted and God of War 3 (couple others that aren't as popular but I'm just naming two) for Sony. Gears of War and Halo for Microsoft. All great games that pushes the hardware, all those gams I mentioned above in some way looks stunning but the Wii having such beautiful games is impressive to me because it had more limits than the PS3 and 360.

BenRage34119d ago

I'll get one eventually. I always buy Nintendo consoles. But, I've only bought a console when it first came out once in my life. I usually wait for an established library and for the more modern version. I want a larger hard drive, and a longer lasting controller battery, before I get a Wii U.

mamotte4119d ago

Valid.

I'll do the same with the PS4... in fact, I just bought my PS3 the last black friday.

Walker4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Nintendo has given money to him, definitely . :-D

Ezz20134119d ago

well, he did make a game for wiiu so i guess you are right they paid him for making that game

megamanX24119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

lol how can it be next gen when its already released? that would make it current gen retards.

"Nintendo has given money to him, definitely . :-D" are u dumb?

mamotte4119d ago

Yes, just like the 360 was the same generation as the PS2, having a one year launch advantage -rolls his eyes-

ZombieNinjaPanda4119d ago

Generation starts when the next iteration of consoles are released. The Wii U has begun next gen. The competitors just haven't released their consoles yet.

Walker4118d ago

Without the power of the feeling .

Yodagamer4119d ago

It's not a next gen jump, but it's a jump nonetheless, but i don't think we will see a jump like we did in the ps2 to ps3 jump. Unless microsoft/sony wait to release a new console, even then nintendo will already be ahead if the wii u sells well.

Team Ninja Doesn't Get Enough Credit For Its Stories

Saad from eXputer: "Team Ninja's stories may not appeal to everyone due to their barebones nature but they deserve credit for being fun."

mastershredder29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Exputer dude says Team Ninja needs more credit for their stories (what their known for) and credit for being fun (also known for challenging and fun gameplay). Team Ninja gets a LOT of credit. That's why they keep making games. You just can't expect everyone to award them the attention-level and regard that you think they deserve.

"I’m aware that some things are often not for everyone. Not because someone is actively gatekeeping but due to the product or premise failing to appeal to the masses" - Hmmm l dunno, sounds kinda like we are about to go for a cruise down gatekeeper blvd to me.

Takeaway, Exputer as a pimple gaming journal site that should not be concerned about the recognition standards of a studio they have zero involvement in. You perspective is outsider and totally disconnected from reality as far as how the industry sees them.

Takeaway 2, Exputer is only in about a generation deep into Team Ninja. Posers. Take your gate keepy BS and shove it. We know what makes team ninja great and they are doing just fine doing what THEY do.

Knightofelemia29d ago

Every branch under Koei Tecmo is talented I am a big fan of theirs no matter what the game is or who makes it.

GoodGuy0928d ago (Edited 28d ago )

I thought Nioh 1+2's stories were fine, nothing amazing but they kept me interested. William and the Protag in 2 were pretty cool. Wo Long was ok I guess but it just felt like another retelling of the three kingdoms again which we've seen told so much in video games and especially dynasty warriors.

ROCKY2828d ago

Where is a new DEAD OR ALIVE !!!!
That is the only game we care about from Team Ninja 😂

Team Ninja say Rise of the Ronin will have multiple difficulty options

Rise of the Ronin's difficulty options include Narrative, Intermediate and Hard. As the name suggests, Narrative mode is for players who just want to experience the story without any serious combat. Intermediate is your standard medium difficulty that will provide some challenge while Hard is in line with Team Ninja's previous games like Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Ghost of Tsushima... your move!

goldwyncq131d ago (Edited 131d ago )

The visuals seem somewhat unpolished and looks like from a last gen game. I wouldn’t mind a delay.

Andrew336131d ago

A game doesn't need bleeding edge visuals to be good.

goldwyncq130d ago

Ghost of Tsushima did not have the best graphics quality compared to other PS exclusives but the beautiful art style made it stand out. This game just looks generic in comparison.
