Europe had stronger week than America

Europe - 873 000 consoles sold
America - 826 000 consoles sold

where´s the boy who said America is the strongest market? i think it´s nearly equal

dark-hollow4128d ago

Europe is a continent, USA is a country.

Compare it to any individual country worldwide and you will see that it is The biggest market for gaming.

Knight_Crawler4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

LOL at piroh comparing a country to a continent and celebrating Vchartz guesstimate numbers...sorry bro but you are taken this console war thing too serious.

You do realize that all 3 companies made a big profit this gen and will release a next gen console right. At this point it does not matter who is number 1,2 and 3 as both companies have reached there goal which is to make a profit and not to make console fanboys happy like some people believe.

TheLyonKing4128d ago

@dark-hollow vg charts tracks North America which what am sure he was getting at and yes North America is a continent.

GribbleGrunger4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

Yes, it doesn't matter how many consoles the 360 and the PS3 sell now, this gen is nearly over. So feel free to compare the numbers for the foreseeable future because the people who say it doesn't matter won't be at all bothered.

By next Christmas the PS3 will probably be ahead of the 360, but as I said it doesn't matter. You have to hand it to Sony for almost catching up after releasing a year later and at a much higher price ... But I digress, it doesn't really matter any more. It only mattered when 360 owners said it would never catch up.

That was when America was a market and not a country and Europe was a market and not a continent. So much egg on so many faces ... but it doesn't matter. A well placed 'LOL' will clearly show that they're not bothered in the least.

xursz4128d ago

US being the 3rd most populated country in the World, I think it's fair to compare EU to NA which is the point piroh was getting at even though his wording is a tad misleading. For all we know some people might interpret that as North + S. America.

Imalwaysright4128d ago

?? Last time i checked America was a continent too.

G20WLY4128d ago

The Vita only fell this week by 7%! That's amazingly good compared to all the current hardware, even the PS3.

Long may that continue; it would be good for the 3DS as well, to finally get some sales competition.

Red_Orange_Juice4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

most Americans prolly think Yurop is a country so whatever, comparision makes sense

piroh4128d ago

@dark-hollow
if you take it this way, so Japan is the biggest individual market for games
and well, USA is the major gaming market in the America. check the Brazil, they are still playing PS2 can we count them? they are Sony fans

Gamer19824127d ago

Europe and Japan is the reason PS3 finally caught up with 360. It will surpass it just as the new consoles come out.. will Sony take pride in this? Probably as yet again MS came second. But MS will take heed they were on top for most of it and held them toe to toe most the generation. Well done to MS for this generation gotta say they done well for there first major console. The Xbox was a failure and MS rightly dropped it for the better 360.

StreetsofRage4127d ago (Edited 4127d ago )

Sony land?

Hmmmmmm, I don't see any sony exclusives on there. I see Halo 4...don't seem to see any sony exclusive.

Let me try to find the most recent sony exclusive All Stars...WOW! Not even in the top 50? LOL!

rainslacker4127d ago (Edited 4127d ago )

@dark

Technically official sales are figured by North America, which includes Canada and Mexico, along with a bunch of other smaller countries that make up the North American continent. Europe is done the same way. Japan is it's own market, then there are the Asian markets(not sure how they are split up). Not sure where Australia or Africa fits into it all.

However you are right, the US is the largest market for video games based on country.

1.US-13.6 billion
2.Japan-7 Billion
3.China-6.8 billion
4.South Korea-5 billion
5.UK-3.7 Billion

Edit: this was for 2010, based on a 2011 study. Not sure where they rank for 2011, and 2012 wouldn't be calculated this early.

They're all important markets though, and should not be discounted.

kneon4127d ago

@Gamer1982

The 360 was ahead of the PS3 only because the 360 released 12-24 months ahead of the PS3, depending on the region. So the PS3 has sold pretty much the same as the 360 only it did it in a shorter time thus making the 360 the slowest selling console this gen.

Armyntt4127d ago

@Kneon, who thought Sony wouldnt have passed up MS eventually? It was going to happen everyone knew it. The thing is that people look at a generation as a whole and look at the systems almost as if they all came out on the same day. Time does that to people. TBH though even though Sony will probably finish 2nd when its all said and done they to also failed in that they couldnt put MS away. MS was reeling after the first xbox than the RROD and Sony still had a tough time in the US market. MS is now a force in gaming.

damn!!! like Europe chart better than U.S. chart lease PS3 ahead for a change.

RIGHTY-OOOOOO ps3

Gamer19824127d ago (Edited 4127d ago )

For a change? PS3 always leads in europe.. On that note the WiiU is dying already..

Hingle_Mcringleberry4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

I'm counting 1 exclusive in the top 10. And PASBR out of the top 50 in just 6 weeks. Wow.

TheLyonKing4128d ago

Would quite like to see official 2012 numbers for all the companies now :)

rainslacker4127d ago

Keep in mind companies go by fiscal year and not calender year, for accounting purposes. Microsoft is June 30, Sony and Nintendo March 31. Usually the numbers they release are for that time period, although one can figure out the numbers by quarterly analysis, and discarding the data for a different calender year.

Cam9774128d ago

Ps3 reigns supreme, I hope this continues into next gen.
All hail the king.

On the other hand, the 360 is doing poorly; by that I mean LOL, it's being beat by a handheld.

AngelicIceDiamond4127d ago

So now the VGChartz are accurate, I see.

Are the U.S charts accurate at all?

Clarence4128d ago

I wonder how close the PS3 is to passing up the 360? Vgchartz has the lead at 1.8m, but we know its much less than that. The holidays are over which is the 360 sells the most.

SandWitch4128d ago

Should be around 1 mil I think. The difference was only 250k in October (by official MS and Sony's reports), but X360 sold more during holidays as usual.

Ryo-Hazuki4128d ago

Incorrect. The difference was not 250k because both fiscal results were released a month apart. 360 had a 1 month lead over PS3 and PS3 actually outsold 360 world wide for the holidays and for the year by over 1.5 million.

xursz4128d ago

You may be right about the reports being a month apart but Xbox360 outsold PS3 this holiday by a respectable margin. That's not to say the gap isn't shortening.

SandWitch4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

@Ryo-Hazuki

The 250k difference is the same 1 month difference that we are talking about

Though we can say that X360 is the slowest selling console after all - 64 mils in 6 years compared to PS3's 72 mils in 6 years.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing695h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker5h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing695h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos11h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto10h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8810h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies20m ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
