Hitler would have been influenced by violent video games say researchers

Adolf Hitler, maniacal dictator of Nazi Germany and murderer of millions, would almost certainly have been influenced by violent video games had they existed, it has emerged.

In yet another blow for the much-maligned industry, researchers at the University of Cambridge, England, have confirmed that had controversial video games such as Grand Theft Auto 4, Saints Row: The Third and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 been available in the 1930s, Hitler’s reign of terror would have been significantly more brutal.

Neckbear4123d ago

Oh come on, it was kinda amusing.

ProjectVulcan4123d ago (Edited 4123d ago )

Everyone knows Hitler doesn't care about COD or GTA, his fave game is Meincraft.

EddieNX 4123d ago

@Vulcan project- You deserve some sort of oscar for your comment.

MmaFan-Qc4123d ago

i guess Hitler was inspired by the dangerous and brainwashing evil CLASSICAL MUSIC!!!!

we should ban music and erase all trace of Richard Wagner work to prevent other hate crimes and genocides.

kneon4123d ago (Edited 4123d ago )

It's obvious the Wagner is an evil influence, look what it did to Elmer Fudd

Yeah, he probably WOULD have been influenced by videogames....

...and he would have been so desensitized and placated that he would've sat in his Mom's basement playing CoD: Belgium At War and would have never started the Nazi party.

HarryMasonHerpderp4123d ago

This is satire before people start going crazy lol.

ZombieNinjaPanda4123d ago

Terrible article. Why? Because it's blatant sarcasm, to people that are smart. The people who think video games are causing violence aren't smart. Therefore using something as advanced as sarcasm, they won't understand it and they'll just think you're agreeing with them and being serious.

eatcrayons4123d ago

Something like Poe's law right? A sufficiently advanced parody is indistinguishable from actual fundamentalist bullshit?

ZombieNinjaPanda4123d ago

Correct! But does Poe's law apply to people that are essentially stupid?

rainslacker4123d ago

At least we can laugh at them when they use this as proof in the future. You know it's coming.

LackTrue4K4123d ago

"and some developers would of been influenced by Hitler"

zerocrossing4123d ago

Have you heard of EA? lol I kid... well a little, maybe.

zerocrossing4123d ago

Still waiting on that "If Hitler were a gamer he would have played ???" article....

GribbleGrunger4123d ago (Edited 4123d ago )

Good lord, what will they think of next? I'm not beyond discussion on the subject of whether video games do or don't influence 'some' people, but this is absolute nonsense; although it could (and probably is, 'hopefully'), a tongue in cheek jab at the naysayers.

There is way to much no stated in the article about the study to really past judgement. A source link would be much appreciated

digitalscrutiny4123d ago

I'm pretty certain it is a joke about the way everyone blames videogames for everything.

TheFinalEpisode4123d ago (Edited 4123d ago )

Pics or it wouldn't have happened!

ZeroChaos4123d ago

You know people are desperate to discredit games when they have to bring him into the mix.

cyclindk4123d ago (Edited 4123d ago )

It's official... video games caused the Holocaust, yet... we still.. buy them.

Also, if nothing else, (without commenting on the ludicrous claims made by this study) it proves that WITHOUT video games, something like the Holocaust and all the other atrocities of this world have and still occur on a daily basis.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

Cacabunga13h ago

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

CrimsonWing691d 9h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde16h ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21831d 8h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg1d 7h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
