By Furious Francis, editor in chief

Despite having some solid franchises like WWE, Darksiders, and Saints Row. THQ still bit the bullet in 2012, filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. saints row 4 will hit ps3,xbox360,wii-u etc,

maybe even next gen systems.

metro franchise has the IT factor but the sales have to show the interest for next publisher to publish the game on next gen systems

also i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the games coming out in Early 2013 don't end up getting 2nd release on next playstation and xbox like a lot of 2012 games did for wii-u

i just want a great publisher to buy them, not someone crappy

homefront 2 has huge potential but Crysis developers are not known for single player stories and to me a major part of HF IP is the single player story

LoverboySimer

THQ owes wwe the most money, so the license could go to another publisher? most likely ea or activision.

but think about it like this, if someone other than THQ makes next wwe game than it will not be any good, because it takes more than a year in development to get everything up and running and make everything works. so could we see WWE franchise not make it yearly release this year?

for all the love wwe13 got i still think the game was ok at best, i think critics have forgotten how great some of the older wwf/wwe games were

here comes the pain
shut your mouth
day of reckoning 1-2
wwf no mercy
etc,

They need to get the saints row 2 people on it. I felt like I was losing brain cells while playing that stupid Saints Row The 3rd game.

Pumbli4131d ago

It was just goofy and silly fun, nothing wrong with that. While GTA took the serious route Saints Row opted for something totally different.

Sure I'd love to see the sillyness toned down a tad bit in the next Saints Row but I wouldn't be too sad if it continued down it's current path either.

Love it or hate it, Saints Row The Third was a success for both THQ and Volition. I wouldn't be surprised if SR4 ended up being even crazier.

showtimefolks4131d ago

donbear

i agree with you 100%, i don't know what was so great about Sr3 when SR2 was the better game. You can have all the craziness but when the game has no structure or a story to follow than it just becomes dull/boring

Pumbli

you can keep the craziness in mini missions but the main plot should actually have a well PLOT. Its not just about what GTA is doing its what SR isn't doing. I don't want SR to turn into GTA but i also SR franchise to go more in route of Sr2 which has the goofiness yet still was a great game

i have heard a lot of people say about Sr3 what i am saying. i just hope the developers don't go even more over board if its even possible with SR4. Give the player the freedom to act crazy yet still have a plot which should be at very least passable.

GTA:SA wasn't goofy or crazy yet you could do all the crazy stuff you want. but when you were done there was a plot to follow which made you go forward in your progress. SR3 was trying too hard to become the macho/porn-stary kind of game

Pumbli4131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

Hard to compare any free-roaming game to San Andreas, you don't get much better than that.

SR2 was better than 3, not denying that. All I'm saying is that some people actually liked the goofyness of it all. The plot was lacking, true and I doubt they'll fail to improve on that in the next game.

That said why couldn't we have a decent plot AND a game that's possibly more over the top than SR3? It's not like they are polar opposites as long as the goofyness is done right.

WWE license is with THQ until 2018!

So yes WWE games will continue as long as the company is around. They have a funder/buyer at the moment to keep them going until at least 2014 I believe. Their key strategy relies on their upcoming titles landing well with fans. THQ's money situation makes me think they will not be on next generation consoles, but never say never. They might be working with next generation consoles for all we know thanks to their new buyer or whatever. I don't know if WWE would break contract with them due to the bankruptcy going on with them, but at the moment their deal lasts until WWE 19.

Homefront 2
Turtle Rock FPS
Saints Row 4
and one or two other titles have to hit hard and sell well for THQ to bounce back from all of this. Their focus should be entirely on improving quality of their games right now.

SheenuTheLegend4131d ago

i really hate what they have done to wwe. but its not yet confirmed i think that they will not be making next wwe.
e3 will tell this.

TheCookieMonster4131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

The real question is will THQ make it to next gen? After what happened with Darksiders 2 and how their projected sells were ridiculous, I somehow doubt it.

animegamingnerd4131d ago

they need to get back on their feet they even stated that the reason why metro last night is not coming to wii u is cause they can't afford to at this moment and that the slow CPU was from a early devkit dating back like E3 2011 so i imagine if the big leap everyone is expecting for the other consoles it would be best for THQ to still stick with current for at least another year

brish4130d ago

I bought Darksiders II and I am currently playing it. It's an amazing game.

Too bad it didn't sell well because a sequel is unlikely now.

BlackIceJoe4131d ago

I hope a revival of Red Faction, Homeworld & De Blob. I have enjoyed all of those. So seeing more of them would be cool. I could see the next De Blob working well as a download only game.

Theyellowflash304128d ago

Red Faction would be nice. I loved Red Faction Guerrilla.

Hazmat134130d ago

i would love to see SR4 on PS4 and 720

Slightly disappointing game but Wo Long had a good creator. I was impressed by Oblivion back in what 05, 06? But the worst i have ever seen, clearly, Valheim.

ModsDoBetter360d ago

What was up with Wo Long?

Not looked at any reviews and did download it on my Xbox before I sold the console but never got around to playing it. Saw it drop in price on PS5 and was thinking of picking it up.

RE: Character creation

Oblivion hold a special place for me, when it came out on PS3, it was the first game of its kind that I had played and the character creator took was amazing.

I do like Monster Hunter: World & FFXIV, personally.
Cyberpunk did good in that department, despite its numerous flaws.

IamTylerDurden1360d ago

I played Oblivion day 1 on 360 and was impressed with the creator. Damn near 20 yrs ago, it was impressive at the time. Special game, unfortunately 90% of current gamers on social media have not a clue about the older stuff. Elder Scrolls is just Skyrim to many. They know not of Gothic and the old guard that paved the way. Flimsy ass rhetoric and recycled opinions about the same bs is what garners attention. Meme culture. Insight and intellect hold no place on the current day internet. Fuck likes, follows, BS. I say what i believe is relevant, what i'm interested in, and following means fuck all bc i don't respect 99% of the ppl online anyway.

For the "TLDR" bs. I'ma not space it out on purpose. Fuck you very much folks.

isarai361d ago (Edited 361d ago )

Honestly the one I remember being easiest and flexible enough to make any character I imagined was the PS2 WWE games, and Saints Row 2. I did really enjoy Dragons dogmas character creation too

IamTylerDurden1360d ago (Edited 360d ago )

I was gonna mention Black Desert but the game is horrible so...

Creator was the best part.

The Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak from the Gran Turismo series

Nissan Skyline from Need for Speed Underground

Motorcycle Steamroller from Dead Rising 3

And finally a car you never drive but saves your ass over and over : Honey Badger from COD MW2

I was thinking of Mad Max. That V8 felt really good to drive around in, especially with upgrades.

dumahim464d ago

No one liked the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Top 10?

toxic-inferno464d ago

I don't know... It was a strange addition to the game, and the parts of the game where you had to fight in it were tedious. But driving it around Gotham felt brilliant.

Xbox Series X: 20 FPS Boost Games With Lackluster Upgrades

Xbox Series X's FPS Boost is game-changing when it works and disappointing when it doesn't. While frame rates are often consistent, many titles make concerning sacrifices. This lost compiles 20 FPS Boost games that make major sacrifices, detailing their drawbacks.

As someone with the Series S, it makes more of an impact there than on the X. From what i have seen, if the game already supported One X enhancements, then its best to just let it be on the Series X.

Darkwatchman1050d ago (Edited 1050d ago )

But there’s also 13 games that get FPS Boost on Series X that don’t get it on Series S and another number of game that have higher framerate targets with FPS Boost on Series X than Series S so it’s actually not that cut and dry. It’s pretty disappointing on both ends. The cases where it works as intended or as people may have initially thought it would turn out are too few.

XBManiac1049d ago

If you have Series S and you use backwards compatibility... it is not comparable to Series X. Series S runs vanilla Xbox One versions because of the lack of RAM to emulate Xbox One X ones, for example. Series X is far greater improvement on BC.

Great to have options I’ve gone back to playing dragon age inquisition and it runs superbly. Good article though detailing differences.

DJStotty1049d ago (Edited 1049d ago )

Wow, these downplaying articles are rife this week in the lead up to E3.

Funny how it is only this week these articles are surfacing, even though we knew about Series X not running upgrades from Xbox One X BC games months ago. As per article :-

"If a game doesn't run at a stable performance level, the Microsoft backwards-compatibility team can't adjust game settings or resolution to best reach the target frame rate."

Well yeah, you can not change some other developers game code, only they can enhance their own game via next-gen patches.

There is even one now on how Gamepass for PC is "broken".

Wonder what we will see next? We have had Xbox not making any money on any console ever, gamepass for PC is broken, FPS boost has lackluster upgrades, xbox division is being ran in the red at a consistent loss, gamepass has never been profitable, all in the lead up to Xbox and Bethesda's E3 showing.

Funny times, roll on E3 for me, can't wait.

Darkwatchman1049d ago

The issue with games not running One X enhancements as not as simple as you state as again, the first 2 batches had games that worked with One X enhancements. Prey, UFC 4, and Skyrim ran with Xbox One X enhancements. Then in the final batch, we got Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The issue is the inconsistency.

Microsoft taking the “exploit” away that used to exist for still running with One X code in Fallout 4. That workaround got removed which is disappointing.

“We’ve known for months”

Before the last batch of 74 games, we only had 2-3 games that lost the enhancements? So it’s actually only been ONE month that we’ve seen how much of a dramatic cut many games have had to make.

Regardless, this article exists to compile each title’s rendering set-up with and without FPS Boost. I don’t get why people are always so personally insulted when something isn’t praised to high heavens. I LOVED replaying Prey with FPS Boost because I got the best of both worlds. Also loved replaying Shadow of The Tomb Raider. Any of the games on this list however?? Not so impressive.

DJStotty1049d ago (Edited 1049d ago )

"So it’s actually only been ONE month"

https://www.ign.com/article...

Since before launch - September 2020

https://twistedvoxel.com/fp...

March 2021

So yeah, it has been known for months, 3 to be precise

All in all, the title description of "lackluster upgrades" is just the series console using the Xbox One S version of the game without the One X enhancements, to achieve the FPS boost.

Says it all when the article needs a disclaimer saying they are essentially "making assumptions"

"While this list compiles information as accurately as possible, some assumptions will be made about dynamic resolution. It is assumed that with the sheer horsepower thrown at base Xbox One code, the dynamic resolution scaler will always hit its peak even with the boosted frame rate. If a bullet-point is book-ended by saying DRS can't be discounted, it's because we didn't have enough information to make a safe claim. "

Darkwatchman1049d ago (Edited 1049d ago )

What you’re highlighting are from the first 2 batches, which my comment already addressed. It was a VERY SMALL number of games that needed sacrifices so it was safe to assume they were outliers. Now with 97 games, 20 of them using Xbox One base code(and a large portion also just being games that never got enhanced to begin with so it’s not actually 77 enhanced One X titles that keep them), it’s a much larger issue than the first 2 batches indiciated. It wasn’t until the final batch in late April or early May, that we saw just how limited the feature is and just how limited Microsoft’s lack of user choice in letting us keep the enhancements is.

Also, that first link is irrelevant because that’s about Series S, a whole separate conversation. This article and conversation is about Series X. Also, at least the article is transparent when it is making an assumption rather than many game journalists that simply regurgitate PR speak as fact, spreading misinformation. When those games revert to base Xbox One code, it’s a fact that they’re going to be using the Xbox One resolution range for that title. The assumption is whether it locks to the top-end or if it drops below the max resolution the DRS was set at for base Xbox One. For many games, we have the data to safely say it’s running at the max resolution. For others, we don’t. It’s not like the article is just pulling resolutions out of its ass.

DJStotty1049d ago (Edited 1049d ago )

I simply said the following :-

"We knew about Series X not running Xbox One X versions of BC games months ago" - Fact, regardless of how you want to spin it about batches. 20 games (the ones in the list) run the Xbox One code, like you said, but as stated by the teams themselves, this is to enable FPS boost.

It is only an issue, for those that want the FPS boost, along with the One X enhancements, for the majority, they will take the sacrifice of resolution downgrades, to play at a higher framerate, if that is what they want.

Best explained by the article itself :-

"Unfortunately, FPS Boost has hard limits because no game code is being touched. If a game doesn't run at a stable performance level, the Microsoft backwards-compatibility team can't adjust game settings or resolution to best reach the target frame rate."

So what they are essentially saying, is they can not reprogram games they do not own, to enable the resolution to be stable, along with using FPS boost, so they have to use the base code, to enable the doubling of framerate.

If they started delving and dabbling in other games source code, they will have a mightily fine and hefty lawsuit coming there way.

This will only be addressed for the 20 games in question, via a developer patch. Expect these to be fixed in due course as and when.

But to label things as "lackluster upgrades" when there is only 1 upgrade involved FPS boost, is nothing short of fanboyish.

DJStotty1049d ago (Edited 1049d ago )

In short :-

All 20 games on the list, are running at Xbox One resolution with FPS boost enabled, instead of the Xbox One X enhanced versions resolution.

This is a known issue, even when running the same games through the BC program.
