Yeah, based on what information is out there, the demo (if one has released.), as well as the developers and their background/attitude.

Although it's always best to give it a try regardless.

I think that giving it a try is more of a cementing act that just finalizes the opinion you came up with after reviewing all the info available. Ideally you wouldn't have to blow money on bad games to try them out, but hey I can't disagree that trying a game out can help people with a decision. I just think that, with some games, you can tell how bad they are straight from the beginning.

Yup

Some people however fail to realise this

Take FF13-3 for example, you get the same "How can you judge" comments yet those same people say things like "This looks amazing", "Can't wait" or "Impressive for example...basicaly those who find a game good can judge WITHOUT playing the game themselfs but those who have a problem with it when it's so obvious can't because they "havent played it"...they get called "whiners", "trolls", "crybabies", people basicaly contradict themselfs and are made to look like hypocrites. Thats my problem with this situation.

It happened with FF13, RE5, Lost Planet 2, Medal of Honour Warfighter, FF13-2 and RE6 for example and look what happened.

It's happening now with Dead Space 3, Devil May Cry, FF13 Lightning Returns, Demon Souls 2...gee I wonder whats going to happen. LEARN FROM THE PAST...if it's happened before it will happen again...

For example...a well known horror game franchise taking the action route (RE6) with over the top action elements and co-op, then another horror franchise does the same, from here YOU SHOULD KNOW whats going to happen, why should we go through all the denial BS and say things like "Oh we don't know, wait for the game to come out" then resort to calling the people who arn't on the same boat as you sailing right down that great egyption river...DE-NILE

It's common sense

To be fair, some people do judge too early into a game's development. Dark Souls 2 is a perfect example of this. I myself am very worried about that game thanks to what Shibuya has said that he wanted in the game, but just because I'm worried doesn't mean I've formed a concrete judgement about it. Same with FF13. There was every indication that it was going to be a good game, that is until the gameplay vids came up and then a huge red flag was thrown.

Thing is, you don't have to play the full game to see what's wrong with it a lot of the times. We, as gamers, have become so used to developers failing hard that we can spot it from miles away. Well, some can anyway. Some people like to look through rose coloured glasses and think nothing is wrong, but when you get a game like RE6 and DmC, or issues like the DLC for Skyrim, you know that standards have been thrown away in favour of profit. What businesses seem to forget is that when you mistreat people, your business will suffer. DmC made a lot of people upset, FF13 trilogy made a lot of people upset, Skyrim DLC made a lot people upset. These things will have future implications to be sure.

And I completely agree that it's a huge double standard that people can praise a game without having played it in its entirety and then slam negative opinions for the exact same reason.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
