The problem with Vita in Japan is that no one actually needs one. The Japanese market it crazy all things portable and unfortunately for Vita it offers nothing new so to speak. The 3DS however has a market. Kids and Hardcore Ninty fans who buy Nintendo stuff "just because". Its no surprise with how Sony really is letting this one go.

The problem with Vita is entry price, marketing, tablets, and Japan.

The Vita needs to be $199, w. a game, and a 4GB memory card starting E3 2013. Memory card prices need to be cut by 50% ($100 for a 32GB is ridiculous). Games need to stick to the same pricing PSP developed ($20 - $40, and not $50). Sony needs to make PSN a bigger selling point of Vita, crossbuy and crossplay need to be mandatory for all PSN games going forward.

Marketing is horrible. The Vita is marketed as a PS3 you can take with you, which is great for PS3 owners, but for everyone else it begs the question why not just buy a PS3 for the same price? They need to sell the Vita on what makes it unique, and the games that it has which are great. They need new entertaining commercials, and not random joe playing MLB, then picking up the game on Vita.

Tablets are the it thing, so Vita needs to sell itself as a tablet as well. Get Android Marketplace HD app, Tegra-zone quality games, Amazon Market app, and other features that makes the Vita compete with tablets better, because as of now it only does gaming better. If the Vita becomes a true multimedia device then that makes people think twice about buying it over a tablet, especially if they're a gamer.

Stop selling and making games for PSP. Japan is handheld crazy, and the PSP has done extremely well there as of late. Start having these developers make games for Vita instead, so Japan has to jump on board the Vita train. PSP has some amazing JRPG's, Monster Hunter, and a bunch of Japanese games. Get those developers on your handheld again.

The Vita has plenty of time to renew it's image. Those who own a Vita enjoy it, and regard it as the best handheld ever, and IMO it is. It's just not being touted as the best handheld every by Sony, and if they're not going to push it as such then the media won't either, nor will the sales show it. Sony needs to step up with their Vita support.

I do agree that the RRP needs addressing, but the trick is don't walk into a highstreet store and grab one from the shelf, as you will pay vastly more than if you'd taken 5 minutes to shop around online.

If you're a parent and you have a choice between a home console and a handheld for the same price, what are you going to pick? The Vita is fine, Sony just needs to cut the price down a little to entice people to jump on board who are interested but aren't willing to spend $250, or $200 on sale w/o a memory card that will last you more than a few months.

I really don't know how you have the nerve to gloat about WW figures for the 360. It beggars belief to be honest ... The last six weeks of the year are always better for the 360 and funnily enough, the WW figures suddenly become popular again. But when the PS3 outsells the 360 for the remaining 10 months of the year; it's off to the American and UK figures for the likes of you. And by the way, this year is the smallest widening of that gap there has ever been, so that 2 million lead (which was 3.3 million last year and was then reduced to 1.7 million for the rest of the year) is going to mean the PS3 is more than likely going to be equal by May/June. I love the people who say "The race is almost over. It doesn't matter who wins, just who was in the lead up until the end." Even at the Special Olympics they can tell you that to see who wins a race, wait until the race is over and then check the order they finished in.

And I love the claim that for 10 months of the year, all you hear about is Sony's going to pass the 360 this year. Do you have any evidence to back this up. Because I've been on this site for years and I don't see this happening. What I do see is a lot of crowing by a certain console camp (let's call them "Camp X") that apparently is always in the lead even though it's been outsold badly by both competitors ever since it had competition.

You would be surprise to see how many of those USA sales are actually people who have traveled to USA from different countries to shop.

I am from the Caribbean and I never buy any electronics from my Island because the price is mad crazy - Xbox has a huge fan base in Central, south America and also the entire Caribbean and 80%of those sales are from people who travel to USA for shopping.

When you see USA numbers remember that not only Americans are buying 360 but other countries as well.

Edit: Another thing to note is that the main reason why people from central, south America and the Caribbean like the 360 so much because the Call of Duty experience is better on the 360...you would think that most third world countries like Mexico and Brazil would want the PS3 since the online is free but people here find some way of paying the $60 for XBL per year and are happy.

Take this into account the PS2 was released a year before the Xbox. The PS2 had a crazy leed over the Xbox and nothing could changed that, Forcing Microsoft to rush out a new console (RROD proves that).

Now, we look at the 360 and PS3. The 360 came out a year before the PS3 and now 6-7 years later, only has a 2 million plus lead over the PS3. The 360 started out with a 10 million plus leed over the PS3, at the time of the PS3's launch. Also, take this into account the PS3 has been selling better than the 360 every year including this one.

The 360 did take up some great amount of market share from the Ps3, but that doesn't mean the PS3 isn't winning the war. The war isn't over until both consoles stop selling. And we all know Sony will support the PS3 or at least keep making them for a good amount of time after they release their next console.

And it will be funny, when the PS3 does take the leed over the 360, because 360 fan-boys will say the generation is over, so it doesn't matter. While that won't be the case.

With all this said and done, all three consoles have done well this generation. And if you own all three, you have may have enjoyed everything they have to offer.

he's right. There is literally now way to calculate EU sales because of the different laws and regions. NPD sales do not include online sales. Like he said, these are purely speculation. Microsoft should be posting holiday reports mid January. Sony will be posting holiday results early February. VGchartz even say it themselves, these are just estimates aka made up.

What happened is Sony went down the pub one day and left the dictionary on the table next to the atlas, and while they were gone to dog shredded up the M section of the dictionary and ripped Europe clean off the map of the world. It also humped the table leg and peed in a slipper.

If Sony eventually overtake Microsoft this gen it doesn't really matter. The fact is Microsoft now have a massive grip in the console market. It's in the game now. Remember the big argument about the year head-start, well I know many many people who when the PS3 came out, rushed to their local game store to part-ex their 360, free online, Blu ray,.they weren't gonna pay for online etc etc etc, next thing I find is their back on my friends list. Why do ppl always use vgchartz as a source for sales when they're always so inaccurate? Even Aaron Greenberg the head of Xbox division at Microsoft calls bullshit on their numbers. Recently Sony just announced they sold over 30 million in Europe, vgchartz only around 27.5 million. Sony announced that they sold 70 million worldwide as of November 4th, vgchartz just recently put it above that. I remember when MS announced that they sold 50 million units, vgchartz had about 47 million 360s. Yet regardless of all these inconsistencies we still use them as a source?
