Why you probably didn’t get a Wii U for Christmas this year

Sure, the Wii U has had a decent start, but these strong numbers definitely won’t continue. The Wii U’s marketing campaign is an absolute mess, and it doesn't even really tell consumers what the console is all about or explain its unique potential.

The 3ds is way more appealing to me (for what it offers) than a wii u is. Dont compare 3ds to Wii U please. I dont see a single incentive to want a wii u. The best systems now are 3ds and ps3. I'll be getting ps4, and then wii u will fade into oblivion.

Just because I like Nintendo's handhelds, doesnt mean that I am impressed with how they handled their last few consoles.

I was lucky enough to get one and so far I'm very happy with it. ZombiU is a really good demonstration of how to effectively use the second screen, most of the action happens on the TV and the second screen is used for checking your bag, scanning the environment etc. It really helps build the tension throughout the game.

I don't like how people are judging it already it has only just come out. People are still defending the Vita after nearly 12 months after its release! I think the WiiU will end up being a great console and will stand up against the PS4/720 with it's exclusive games

I don't see how the author of the article reached the conclusion that the Wii U sales will nosedive. He acknowledges that sales are currently at near-Wii levels and unless he's a closet Soothsayer everything after that point is just wild speculation or (even worse) a deliberate attempt at trolling for traffic.

I have a Vita and I love it. I find it stupid how people defend the Vita after 12 months and bash the WiiU after just 1...

As for the power thing, honestly did you really expect any more from Nintendo after the Wii? They have introduced a new way to play our games that works really well IMO. They know that Sony and MS will be going for powerful consoles next gen so why would they even try to compete with that. They will be better off using a less powerful, cheaper console and that will allow them to continue to cater towards the audience that they have gathered over the passed 7 years with the Wii

I defend the Vita after 12 months because it's an amazing value for the system and has a lot of greata games. The Wii U isn't a great value. You're getting a PS360 with less games and no interesting titles outside of Zombie U and New Super Mario Bros U, currently, for a higher price.

There are very few major titles that have been announced for future release. You're buying into a console that has less on the horizon than the Vita does.

kupomogli, sorry I didn't mean that the Vita is not a good system. What I should have said is that I get annoyed that the same people who defend the Vita also bash the Wii-U, like what you're doing now really. When the Vita first came out it had a couple of good games, but most were disappointing and didn't live up to expectations (I have had a Vita since launch). What everyone should have learnt from the Vita is to not judge a system within its first month of release! And yet here we are again, predicting the failure of a console that has been out since November.

Obviously most people bashing the WiiU haven't played it and I think it's just one of those things that you have to experience for yourself before criticizing it. It does have a few issues but for a console that's one month old I think it's great and I can't wait to see more games!

So what you are saying is that it is ok for peopel to pass judgements on Sony's PS vita since its been out only for a year but its not ok to pass judgement on the nintendo Wii U? I might give wii U a hard time but I'm unbiased on my criticism regardless of what console or brand (i own ps3, xbox 360, vita, and wii U) it is. I mention vita in other post that it is a little expensive for a handheld especially if you can get the ps3 with that price. The wii U, there are no must have game at its current state and most game that came out are ports and in honesty most games that will come out in the future you can probably get on the ps3 or xbox 360. But when the PS4 and next box comes out... we will see how the wii u handle developers trying to developes games for all 3 next gen consoles.

I can't afford one right now, and my parents couldn't so I didn't get it for Christmas. I'll buy myself in the middle of next month. I already bought Assassins Creed 3 for it last month. When I get the console I'm buy it with ZombiU, Call Of Duty BO2, Mario Bros U, and a Pro controller.

I buy the games before I buy the console to it sometimes. It's a method of money managing. I didn't have the money at the time for the console, but that's one less game I have to buy once I buy the console. Spend money now and save money later.

EDIT: I'm planning on buying the console next month so I don't see a 20-30 price cut happening that soon.

FanMan-I dont have WiiU.Probably I will for my kid(myself game on ps3 & Vita).since the SNES I always bought the game(Mortal Kombat II-played it to death) then the console,and so on ps1 ps2 ps3.That way I wouldnt spend my money in other stuff but would save it for the console,well starting from ps2 always been working but still bought the game before the console lol.I will do the same for ps4 or wahtever it will be called.Im attached to Playstation so its gonna be ps4.

What kind of logic is that? Lol.. That's 60$ more you could have put towards the wii u..by the time you get the wii u, the game may be half the price. Just throw the money in a drawer and tell yourself no. You'll get want you want quicker and it'll teach you self discipline too, which I notice isn't a very common trait in today's world, hence the rise of obesity, stds, drug addiction and tons of other shit. Self discipline is key my young padawan.

I'm not super interested in one, but that'll definitely change. Between the talk of a new Mother/Earthbound game and Bayonetta 2, it may just wind up convincing me.

To be honest, I'm still worried about third party support, but I guess that's never really been one of Nintendo's strong suits, anyway.

I didn't get one for Christmas because I got one at launch. I am very happy with my purchase and it sits next to my ps3 like a happy family but to be honnest I haven't played my ps3 for 2 months apart from 3hrs to Finnish walking dead. its just going to be gathering dust now until last of us or gta5 come out (depending on which one comes out first). got call of duty on the Wii u and playing online with me and my bro signed in on it with me on the tv and my bro on gamepad is a godsend, no more shitty split screen. also the writers friends can't be true gamers every hardcore gamer knows about the Wii u wether its a bad or good opinion, but all my gamer friends knew what it was because we watch e3, ok they didn't know all the ins and outs (as it seems a lot of people on this site don't) but they at least know it exists.none of my friends have purchased one yet, a few are intrested especaily after playing mine but I told them to wait a few months for all the hiccups to get ironed out. I've always been an early adopter of consoles so my mates are happy playing mine for time being.

Outside of the author being too direct in his statements about Wii U's future sales and the fact that there isn't anything new to this article at all - I do agree that Wii U has an 'identity' problem. Many people (read: casual gamers that don't keep up with the industry and don't read N4G) don't fully understand what it is and Nintendo's commercials only confuse the matter even further.

The author of this article says that Nintendo doesnt even say its a new system...funny in the commercial in the beginning and end they say the all new Wii-U.Maybe if people payed attention more, they would realize its new and not an add on.
