Games to Look Forward to in 2013

GotGame: If you think 2012 has been a good year for games, just wait till 2013 rolls around and I can already see a lot of wallets groaning from all the purchases.

While it’s widely-speculated that 2013 will see the release or reveal of next-gen platforms from Sony and Microsoft, if true, we’re going to be leaving the current-gen with a bang.

Riderz13374138d ago

You forgot Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

guitarded774138d ago

It's easy to miss some with a year looking that good for releases. Don't know about The Last Guardian though... I hope it makes it, or at least gets pushed to next gen.

Welshy4138d ago

My main ones are gonna be The Last Of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, i love MGS and i love hack 'n' slash, so quietly confident about Metal Gear Rising.

Dead Space 3 too to an extent, LOVED DS1 and got platinum, DS2 went slightly more cinematic/action but still kept the horror intact so got 1 trophy from platinum ("Hard To The Core". That is all). But DS3 looks... meh...

I want it because i love the franchise, but at the same time it's been kind of torn from it's roots to merge into this grey area genre where Army of Two, Mass Effect 3, Gears of War and Dead Space are difficult to tell apart outwith their skins and story in terms of gameplay.

I hope for the best and hope that 2013 is an awesome gaming year.

Merry Xmas and Happy Gaming for 2013 one and all =)

LOGICWINS4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

The Last of Us looks like it has the potential to be a great single player experience. The branching paths will give people a reason to play through it multiple times, not to mention the multiplayer. I don't think we know enough about Beyond(BEYOND!!!): Two Souls to garner a strong opinion on it. The fact that David Cage says that gamers should only play it "once" isn't a good sign though. Does he really think that gamers will pay $60 to play through a 15-20 hour experience once?

By saying that, he's implying that the game loses its "umph" after the first playthrough. If thats the case, I'll happily respect Cage's wishes and Redbox the game, beat it in two nights, and return it...with Quantic Dream seeing no compensation.

Industry execs SERIOUSLY need to watch what they say when promoting a game. Gamers might get the wrong impression.

Welshy4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

I forgot Bioshock Infinite... I'll go stand in the corner of shame for 30mins in disgrace that such a title could even slip my mind at all as a top 2013 contender.

@LOGIC. Surely if it's too soon to have an opinion and too little has been shown of BEYOND, then you shouldn't assume the "gamers may only want to play it once" quote is actually a negative?

No background or reasoning has been provided so perhaps it may not actually be bad.

Even if you 20 hours for $60, if it's an incredible game for the whole 20 hours, then surely your better to have something you are told you'll only play once but have an amazing 20 hours than have a generic 5 hour FPS you will only wan to play once anyway, but the devs just haven't told you it's generic and you won't want to play it again for $60?

LOGICWINS4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

I wouldn't spend $60 on a generic 5 hour fps OR a decent 20 hour game experience. I could name a dozen RPGs on the PS2 that offer 50+ hours of quality gameplay at a fraction of $60. There are games out there that offer both quality and quantity...why should I settle for anything less?

"A game doesn't need to be long to be good."

Fully agree. Ouland and Ballad of Gay Tony are some of the best experiences I've had this gen...but that doesn't mean I'd be willing to pay $60 each for them. Just because something is OUTSTANDING doesn't mean that its worth an inflated price point. McDonalds nuggets are outstanding flavorwise..but I wouldn't pay anythg over $30 for them.

I'll def try out Beyond when the demo comes out. I hope I'm not disappointed as the voice acting seems good and the story looks interesting.

Welshy4138d ago

That's not my point, i'm not talking about a DECENT 20 hour game, i'm talking about a potential OUTSTANDING 20 hour game that, without too much of a stretch for the imagination, could send this gen out on a huge bang.

A game doesn't need to be long to be good. What makes a game "good" is totally subjective so length is completely irrelevant.

I'd rather pay $60 for a mind blowingly epic 5 hour shooter than a "meh, it's alright and last about 50 hours, so good value for money" RPG.

We're getting a bit off track now, so all i basically want to say is that it's too early to make assumptions from a one-off statement on an aspect of the game that has never been re-iterated or as much as had anymore footage of the game shown. Give it breathing space and keep an open mind. If it's the greatest 20 hours of your gaming life (which it potentially could be, taste dependant) then it's well worth the $60 and it would be criminal to do the devs out their hard earned cash.

Ni No Kuni, GTAV, and Bioshock Infinite are the only games I'm getting in 2013. Everything else will come from PS Plus.

LOGICWINS4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

Yeah, if I get a good deal on it. After GTAV though, I don't think I'll need another game for a while lol.

I'll most likely end up getting it in the bargain bin in 2014.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, the game looks good..but I don't feel I need it Day 1 at this point. What would sway me is if ND released a video of how the co-op would work in the game. I doubt I wouldn't be impressed by whatever they show. The quality of the MP is what will determine how quickly I purchase the game. I expect a beta for PS Plus members in March.

They put DmC on this and not Pikmin 3 or Sly 4? Really?

prototypeknuckles4138d ago

notice how theres no cartoony looking games on the list which is a shame because ni no kuni and sly 4(my goty 2013) are gonna be amazing.

guitarded774138d ago

How can you already have a GOTY for 2013? That's really biased. What if it ends up not being "all that"? I have high hopes for both games, but always wait until all the games are out before determining a GOTY. I didn't expect Journey to be my GOTY, but after playing it, and playing everything else this year, it ended up being my personal pick for GOTY... if someone had asked me what I though was going to be GOTY for 2012 in 2011, it wouldn't have been Journey. Of course there are always expectations of what could be GOTY, but there are always surprises.

Happy Holidays

LOGICWINS4138d ago

"How can you already have a GOTY for 2013? That's really biased. What if it ends up not being "all that"?"

I'm sure prototypeknuckles knows what he/she likes. Some people enjoy certain franchises so much to the point that they negate nearly everything else around them in favor that beloved franchise. Millions of hardcore Halo fans knew Halo 4 was going to be their GOTY since 2011.

prototypeknuckles4137d ago

wow i like how i have disagress because i want sly to be my goty of 2013, newsflash people ive waited years for this, and its MY GOTY, not the overall, smdh, some gamers are so B***h

morkendo234138d ago

GAMES of 2013

im not looking forward in god of war, bioshock, call of duty, borderland, dead space, mass effect, uncharted, last of us assassin creed.

is gaming STUCK in 2006???? same rehash over and over???
from 2006 til now same game format "basicly" with slap-on title. im bored with first person shooter type games. Sony,Microsoft,Nintendo please!!!!! come out with something FRESH,NEW outside FPS- multi-player games.
those games bore the HELL!!! out of me to the point i dont play video games no more unless it is NES,SNES,PS1,PS2. video games we're meant for fun and entertainment not for virtual reality sci-fi,man hunting bin ladin killing games. Jesus - illuminati got you people brain washed.

LOGICWINS4138d ago

If there is a franchise that you enjoy, wouldn't you want to see more of it? Thats where sequels(you call them rehashes) come in. As long as these sequels don't interfere with the introduction of new IPs(Journey, Gravity Rush, Sound Shapes, Dishonored), then you shouldn't be concerned.

bozebo4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

Sounds like you should be gaming on PC.

But in all fairness. It's a massive risk for developers to launch new IP on consoles these days.

DonMingos4138d ago

I'm sure you will apreciate Splinter Cell Blacklist as you are clearly a stealth fan.

I can tell that, by the furtive and sneaky way that you troll The Last of Us by putting this new IP in the middle of those old franchises as if TLOU was one of them.

Fasttrack764138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

I now own wii u as well,so you can add bayonetta 2,lego city undercover. New zelda and metroid prime to that list..

But it's all about gta 5

Plagasx4138d ago (Edited 4138d ago )

Where the FUCK is Metro Last Light?!

I swear this game seems to be flying under people's radars for 2013..

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast82d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs79d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast79d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs78d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast78d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer82d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6982d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs79d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6979d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger127d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2382d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid126d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast126d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
