Peter Molyneux’s Son Doesn’t Seem to Care About Half-Life 3 Anymore

Kotaku - Peter Molyneux has been a bit of clock-watching lately. Right now, the game designer behind the Populous and Fable game franchises has been watching time tick down on the Kickstarter for the Godus project from his 22Cansdev studio. I spoke to him about raising money for Godus but also asked him about his son Lucas. Does he know when Half-Life 3 is coming out yet?

-Mezzo-4137d ago

He not the only 1, sadly i have too.

Valve has dragged this on for far too long, only to release it in 2013 as Valve Box's Exclusive.

F* That.

Root4137d ago (Edited 4137d ago )

If it was a Vale box exclusive or Steam exclusive and their console is releasing Q1 next year don't you think we would of heard something from it by now. I'm not doubting it but I really want something on Source 2/HL3 now

They should of announced it at the end of the VGAs or annouce it at the first day of the next year...Jaunary the 1st

-Mezzo-4137d ago (Edited 4137d ago )

I never said it'll be a Launch Title.

^ You really enjoy that gif.

porkChop4137d ago

Yeah it really does seem like that's what they're going to do. But so far what I've seen about the Steam Box points towards a closed platform PC, which is definitely not a good thing. Especially when Valve themselves publicly criticize closed platforms. I really don't see anything good coming from the SB, I see it screwing a bit with the console market, and I also see it affecting the normal PC gaming market.

But when I think about it, what else could we expect? Every time Gabe Newell or anyone else from Valve talks, they're always talking about ways to capitalize on their products, and how to be more profitable. It's always about how to make more money. I never see them talking about how to make better games, or their philosophies behind the games they make, or what message they try to send with their narrative. It's always just about the money. The $75+ hats in TF2 is proof of that.

Knight_Crawler4137d ago (Edited 4137d ago )

Have agree, my give a f#$k meter ran out about 5 years ago.

I dont even remember the story that how long its been... Gabe can go F his self with HL Ep3.

Edit: At IAMSUPERMAN - your right the game would probably feel so outdated if it was to release now... remember Duke Nuken and how crappy and boring it felt when it finally released.

iamnsuperman4137d ago

I personally do not care either. That genre as advanced so much since the last game that valve would have to prove a lot for me to pick it up. I do not think valve will ever release another half life because so much has evolution has taken place since the last game and also it has been a log time coming that a lot of people will be disappointed in Half-life 3. Valve can prove me wrong but I think that is the reason why Half-life 3 hasn't happened yet

ThichQuangDuck4137d ago

It is near impossible for Half-Life 3 to live up to what all these people have hyped it up to be. They have set the game up for failure or polarizing reactions. I loved half-life 2 and saw it for a good game of the time, but some talk about Half-Life 3 as if it will be the best game ever. There is slight clinging to nostalgia when they believe Half-Life 3 will be the end all be all of fps. FPS just happens to be one of the slower developing genres in terms of delivering a engaging narrative so half-life 2 stood out and was well paced. I am personally a huge Bioshock fan,but would not go to these half life lengths that some fans have.

pandaboy4137d ago

I think the genre has actually reversed. Games are still being released that give you none of the freedoms we see in Half Life 2. Check out totalhalibut on modern military shooters for a fine evaluation.

ThichQuangDuck4137d ago

That is where I disagree if you look at modern military genre you know they are not the peak of narrative interaction. So to say Call of Duty Black Ops 2 shows a decline. Making comparisons to games of today that you know Half-Life 2 will beat because honestly they are not even remotely trying to deliver a fps narrative is not equivalent.

Disrespectful to the great fps' that have advanced the genre. Those including yourself who believe it has reversed are again clinging to Half-Life 2's greatness. Rather than trying to compare it to the best of the modern games today

animegamingnerd4137d ago

valve doesn't need to prove a lot with half life 3 in fact the FPS genre has taken a lot of steps back since half life 2

GreenRanger4137d ago

Molyneux's son must be making Half-Life 4 if he said that.
Like father, like son.

Peter Molyneux's new game is set in Fable's Albion

Project currently codenamed MOAT.

JusttJD0099186d ago

M.O.A.T

Misleader of all time?

jznrpg186d ago (Edited 186d ago )

It’s between him and Phil. I’d vote Phil

Obscure_Observer185d ago

"It’s between him and Phil. I’d vote Phil"

If Phil were the man that made my life miserable, I would vote for him as well.

Regarding the topic, it could be both Peter and Phil working together.

M.O.A.T takes place in Albion, so it´s possible that Pete is working on new partnership with Xbox, which imo, is nothing but great news!

GhostScholar185d ago

What exactly has Phil mislead about? I can’t wait to hear the verbal diarrhea you come with.

Cacabunga185d ago

Still waiting for Milo and Kate.. most lmao game OAT

Becuzisaid186d ago

Wait.

His name is still used as a selling point for new games? Seriously?

jznrpg186d ago

If anyone knows his name you have to be extremely skeptical that what he delivers will be anything like what he says it would be and that’s best case scenario.

RaiderNation186d ago

He's like the "Tom Clancy" of video games.

InUrFoxHole186d ago

Lol what the hell man?!?!?

Number1TailzFan186d ago

I remember Black & White (PC) but other than that I can only think of Fable, B&W was a pretty cool game tho at the time.

sagapo186d ago

Populous was another one designed by Peter, released before B&W, godlike game as well, pretty good too.

Giblet_Head186d ago

I quite liked Magic Carpet growing up.

Obscure_Observer185d ago (Edited 185d ago )

"His name is still used as a selling point for new games? Seriously?"

The guy is a gaming legend for gamers who actually knows and played his games, like Dungeon Keeper, Populous, Black & White and Fable for example.

Becuzisaid185d ago

I'm certain that most who actually know who he is would contest your use of legend. He's the living, human embodiment of false advertising.

Obscure_Observer185d ago

@Becuzisaid

There´s an abyss between false advertisement and bad games.

Most gamers will get excited for games from great gaming creators rather than focus on their exaggerated promises.

Kojima described his Xbox exclusive game as "very unusual like no one has ever experienced before, leveraging the cloud." He said all publishers he presented the project, called him mad and rejected his game but Microsoft, because it´s too crazy.

Is Kojima exaggerating? Obviously. It´s gonna be a bad game? Hardly.

Imagine a game where Peter Molyneux presents an extraordinary set of ideas that players will enjoy for years to come. Now imagine that this particular game will come out because it will never exist.

Profchaos186d ago

Does Milo live under a bridge there

shinoff2183186d ago

Captain overseller is returning. Ain't heard his name in years.

Peter was overselling games way way before cdprojectred, and bethesada

Peter Molyneux has high hopes for Playground's Fable

One of the biggest reveals at this year's Xbox Games Showcase was the latest Fable trailer. After a lengthy stint of silence, Playground Games gave us a look at bits of the title, albeit in a trailer that was mostly made up of CGI nonsense headlined by comedian Richard Ayoade, who is playing a rather frustrated giant.

Molyneux asked about what he thought about the Fable reveal.

Damm thats a name I haven't heard from in what seems like since forever.

Nebaku287d ago

And we thank the lord each day.

Michiel1989287d ago

he actually was in the news every now and then with a (couple) scam games he made

Double_O_Revan287d ago

The exact same thought came to mind when I read the headline. It's been so long since we've heard his lies and over ambitions.

A failed hack designer has high hopes for Fable lol incoming flop confirmed!

Godmars290287d ago

Well, he's not associated with it. Giving interviews talking about features never at any point mentioned with devs let alone introduced.

It might have a chance.

Godmars290287d ago

Peter Molyneux: Hideo Kojima minus ability and skill.

Godmars290287d ago

Think you mean ethics.

Also, whose defending Molyneux? Wasn't his last game a literal ripoff with him offering a prize but not giving it?

KwietStorm_BLM287d ago

I wonder if those hopes are higher or lower than Milo?

Peter Molyneux's studio 22cans suffers layoffs

From GI.biz: "UK developer 22cans has suffered a round of redundancies, GamesIndustry.biz has learned.

The studio, founded by Fable creator Peter Molyneux, has laid off multiple employees, although an exact figure has not been disclosed.

A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to a number of factors including projects reaching a certain stage in their development, we can confirm that a number of roles at 22cans have been made redundant."

sourOG1156d ago (Edited 1156d ago )

Doesn’t that always happen with every studio lol? Contract workers for certain stages.

kythlyn1156d ago

I'm just surprised 22cans is still in business. They aren't communicating at all with their customers and they've abandoned their games in early access. Godus is still a mess that they're happy to keep selling without support. I kickstarted that game, and I have regrets.

Skywalker3331156d ago

Indeed, I was almost certain that they had closed down sometime ago :P

sourOG1156d ago

Wow that blows. I haven’t heard anything about them either, I just figured they were quietly working on something like ken Levine’s ghost story games.

Eamon1156d ago

Seriously, what is Peter Molyneux up to these days? In his prime, he was the most famous western developer in the world. Now he's doing f all.

njitram20001156d ago

If you look at the 22cans website...mobile games apparently

MasterChief36241156d ago

People became privy to his practice of promising big and delivering small. He is the perennial example of an artist that has huge ambition but not the resolve to follow through with those promises. I don't dislike him, as he has brought us some good games. But he is a constant punchline for me when I think of developers getting high and mighty.

Jericho13371156d ago

I saw an interview a few years ago saying he was inspired by the mobile gaming market and that anyone can become a “gamer”.

Such a shame, for all his critics he’s brought us some fantastic games and I’m sure he’d still be able to contribute something to the core gaming market.

lonewolf101156d ago

I'm surprised that they are still going to be honest.

fitofficial1156d ago (Edited 1156d ago )

They're not actually layoffs, they're fantastical multi-faceted journeys into lands of unimaginable unemployment giving the worker near-infinite freedom of choice.

jznrpg1156d ago

Yes . Classic Peter Molyneux
