Wow, the 3DS and the Xbox are on a roll. The WiiU is doing pretty good too. Sony needs to advertise the Vita better. It's an amazing piece of technology (getting mine this Christmas), it just needs to be promoted better.

Both PS3 and 360 are very close in sales, BUT... PS3 hit 70 Million on NOV 4th. Please see the link and quote from Sony's OFFICIAL press release they put out on Nov 16th regarding when the PS3 hit 70 million in sales:

"Tokyo, November 16, 2012–Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system reached a milestone of 70 million units*1 worldwide as of November 4, 2012 – less than six years after the platform launched in 2006. SCE also announced that sales of the PlayStation®Move motion controller surpassed 15 million units*1 worldwide as of November 11, demonstrating continued growth and momentum of the PS3® platform."

there is no point in showing facts to people. Sony has never quoted worldwide number mid quarter simply because they don't have those numbers. It is impossible for Sony to track EU given all the different regions, that's why Europe doesn't have an official sales trackers like NPD(USA) or Media Create(JPN).

Sony didn't release their Quartely reports until Nov 1st. They didn't make the actual announcement until Nov 16th. Like I tell alot of people, go add the numbers up for yourself and see what you come up with. I doubt Sony was including the numbers of October when they were still calculating their numbers for the end of the quarter (Sept 30th).

If people want to use that logic. Microsoft didn't announce they passed 70million until October 19th. Two weeks later Sony passes 70 million (Nov 4th). No matter how you look at it, one fact remains, ps3 is selling at a faster rate than Xbox360.

Also now I'm officially apart of the Wii U club. Picked up my system today.

Actually when I was looking at how a game sold, the number of units next to the name, which was the number of units it had sold so far, was actually different than the number found if you clicked on the game. I found that this happened with several games, at least Vita games anyway, those were the ones I was looking at.

Both the xbox 360 and ps3 have had undertracking and overtracking, well, that is at least what people keep saying. I'd prefer to watch monkey throw crap at each other than listen to the same fanboy dribble every VG Chartz article. It is strangely amusing though.

Who's saying they're right? All I see is people saying they're often wrong...and they are.

Currently they seem to be overtracking PS3 sales for the year. We know from Sony's numbers that they hit 70 million at the start of Nov (and it was the start of Nov. I was wrong before when I said it was Sept 30. Look up Sony's own press release, they have a "as of" date right on it. I was confused by a chart on Sony's site tracking hardware sales) so based on their last PS3 specific figures, that was just over 6 million, but if you look at VGChartz figures for the year, Jan-Nov they're showing 7 million. VGChartz also has PS3 numbers at just over 70 million right now when Sony confirmed they hit that number 6 weeks ago, and we know the PS3 moved half a million units during Black Friday alone in the US.

We also know from MS that between Jan-Sept, the 360 sold 4.2 million units to retail while VGChartz shows over 5 million during that period. And, although we don't often see numbers from specific games, when those figures are revealed, VGChartz is almost always way out in left field.

It doesn't matter who's overtracked or undertracked. That has nothing to do with it. You guys make it sound like throngs of people are singing VGChartz's praises the second they show Sony out in front of the 360. Where's the evidence of that, because all I see is a lot of people questioning VGChartz and where they get their numbers from, as they've always done, myself included.

No one is "praising" these figures or criticizing only when they over/under track one over the other. No one needs VGChartz to point out that the PS3 has sold faster than the 360. Sony and MS's own figures show that just fine.

@Janitor, I don't think the 3DS was outselling the DS when it launched or the months prior to the price drop.

Either way, I have both and neither are flops. Once you get the best of all consoles, you stop caring and enjoying the games they tend to offer.

Also for the only 250 dollar handheld console on the market right now, it's doing okay and that doesn't make it a flop. A flop is what the 3DS was before the price drop. No matter how much it sold prior to the drop. Nintendo must have thought it was a flop to drop the price like that.

Pre-price cut, the 3DS was selling at a faster pace than the Vita currently is and it was pulling a higher profit; It was a disaster. Nintendo even considered that situation to be dire enough for a drastic price cut.

In addition to that, the PSP launched in 2005(2004 japan) and steadily outsold the DS(pre-lite) despite the fact that it was $100 more. You're in denial if you think that the Vita's current sales are anything but dismal, especially when compared to it's predecessor. I'm not saying that the Vita's sales will never improve--that's preposterous! I'm just saying that we need to be realistic about this.

I never said the Vita sales were great, but they are not a flop either. I know the Vita could be selling better and I know it will sell better, come next year at some point. I personally think if Sony could take a lost on the Vita, they would have dropped the price as Nintendo did with the 3DS. But since, they don't want to or holding off, just in case they need to with the next PlayStation Home console.

The Vita cant even outsell the aging Wii or DS and is only outselling the PSP. Given the time of year that is abysmal. I'm sure Vita owners will paint a nice picture with those numbers but honestly, price cuts, package deals, free games via PS+ and none of it seems to have helped.

I have purchased my son a Vita LBP pack for xmas as it was cheaper than a 3DS in NZ but I still feel like I've thrown good money away.

What I hate about buying a new console is that my pockets are too empty, to really buy a lot of games to go with it. I'm get a Wii U with Mario & COD BO2 and that's it. Good thing I bought Assassins Creed 3 ahead of time though. :)
