Metal Gear Solid V Possibly A Vita Title (The Phantom Pain)

PushStartSelect: "If you didn’t bother to watch the VGA’s, you probably still saw some of the stunning trailers that came out of it. We got an awesome The Last of Us trailer, and of course a mysterious The Phantom Pain trailer. If you read our previous article we were one of the first to tell you that this game was actually Metal Gear in disguise. Well after watching the hints roll in and constantly watching the trailer over and over, we have an idea. Perhaps this game is for Vita!"

I seriously doubt that... Especially if it's MGS5. There's no way they'd have a game like that exclusive to the Vita. Unless it's like a cross play thing with PS3. Although yes, it does have a "V" in the title, which can indicate both Vita and Five. I love the Vita, and would love a major exclusive for it, but I want MGS5 to be console for sure.

Irishguy954143d ago

It trailer was in game right?

ie: Not a ****ing chance

Muffins12234143d ago

A ps vita is a hybrid between a ps2 and a ps3 so it would be downgraded but not by allot...

NoFanboyRequired4143d ago

yeah, the trailer looked like a next gen title. highly doubt the Vita could render something looking that amazing. But it'll most likely be a Vita title scaled down to what it can handle.

CobraUnit4143d ago

It definitely did not look next-gen or like CGI and the worse part about it was the fire which looked quite poor to be honest.

The animations and lighting were great but to ACT as if it looked mind blowing is just silly.

morganfell4143d ago

MGS 5 = The story of Liquid and Frank Jaeger.

4143d ago
Snookies124143d ago

@morganfell - God I hope so! That would be amazing...

breakpad4143d ago

NO there is ***ing chance if you notice the number of polygons that every model uses in game is very low for ps3/x360 game ...maybe is in fox engine but even MGS4 has better quality in all aspects ...it

sikbeta4142d ago

MGS:PW bombed on PSP, why would Kojima put effort on the Vita which is actually doing even worse than PSP, let alone the little base of gamers in that platform, delusional...

Peace walker was originally called MGS5, and it was for psp at the time of its release, so you never know.

MariaHelFutura4143d ago

Great. But THAT wasn't a handheld game.I'm not saying a Metal Gear Solid won't be on the Vita, a bunch will end up there eventually like the PSP. I'm saying THAT was not a handheld game.

jony_dols4143d ago

Kojima ported over part of MGS4 to show off the graphical capabilities of the PSV at it's unveiling and it looked great. So why are you so adament THAT this isn't a handheld game (especially after Peacewalkers success on the PSP)

SandWitch4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

As much as I would like to believe it's PS VITA game, it's not possible judging from the graphics. It looks like a next gen console game to me.

Though the article is making some interesting points.

MariaHelFutura4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

"So why are you so adament THAT this isn't a handheld game"

Because I have 20/20 vision and I've watched the trailer enough to know it`s not a Vita game. Show me ANYTHING on the Vita that comes close to this trailer in terms of visuals and I'll change my mind. Even something that is only in development. If this is for the PS Vita, It`s for the PS Vita 2 and this is releasing in 2016. But seriously, show me something.....

Outside_ofthe_Box4143d ago

Based off the trailer shown, I'm having trouble believing that it is a Vita title... at least not an exclusive one. It might be PS360 with a PSV version done separately/scaled down. I really wish Kojima would just officially confirm/deny everything already.

jony_dols4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

@MariaHelFutura:

'Because I have 20/20 vision and I've watched the trailer enough to know it`s not a Vita game. Show me ANYTHING on the Vita that comes close to this trailer in terms of visuals and I'll change my mind'

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

It's not the Vita's fault that 3rd rate developers like Nihilistic have access to dev kits....Sony Bend is one the few quality developers to have worked on the handheld & they got some impressive visuals out of it.

Kojima made Peacewalker look better than the vast majority of PS2 games on the compartively less powerful PSP, so it isn't unthinkable that he could get The Phantom Pain to run on a Vita.

MariaHelFutura4143d ago

@jony_dols

That vid of MGS4 still doesn't make me think this is a Vita game.

So, let's end it at this... I hope this is a Vita game.

one2thr4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

I doubt its a Vita game, but then again after rewatching the trailer I noticed that Snake' belly button wasnt up to the graphical level I would expect as compared to watch has been shown in the Ground Zeroes trailer...

And that some of the round objects, werent as smooth as the Ground Zeroes rounded objects as well...

Then again, it maybe a hallucination/dream from Ground Zeroes...

It sure would take a TON of people by surprise if it is a Vita title...

But then again, I doubt it...

Bowzabub4143d ago

Unless it is not intended to mean 5 at all. Just MGS V. As one other gamer on here said, Kojima has never used Roman numerals before..

Willywanker4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

The game is called Metal gear solid V: the phantom pain. The "V" isn't revering to a number or a console, it's a name. Listen to the end of the trailer.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

lastly the game was running in 720p.

Bowzabub4143d ago

Willy.. That just made you look less intelligent than I'm willing to bet you are.

Willywanker4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

did you even bother to watch the end of the video, and checked 1280x720p shots your self?

that just made YOU look dumb.

Bowzabub4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

You do know that most games are developed on PC right? Much easier to downscale games than upscale.

Willywanker4143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

Fully aware of that, but the website doesn't say Vita. http://www.mobydickstudio.s...

Right click any of those shots and open them and they will expand to HD. and if you see the end of the video you will hear "V has come to" and then cuts off.

that's all i'm saying.

GraveLord4143d ago

There's no reason why it can't be multiplatform. The Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita and even the 3DS got Metal Gear Collections. It's safe to say all these platforms will get more Metal Gear love in the future.

Metal Gear games are very technically demanding though, so I don't know how a Vita version would work. That Fox Engine must be a beast if it can be that diverse..

FanMan4143d ago

i agree, but the article doesnt say it will be exclusive to the vita. it just says that it could possibly take advantage of cross play because of the statements kojima has made in the past.

hot4play4142d ago

Perhaps its a PS3/Vita cross-buy/play/controller game with Transfarring. Sounds more plausible, but idk with Hideo Kojima you never really know, hehe.

Mounce4140d ago

MGS Peacewalker was officially, basically considered to be MGS5 until 'More' MGS games came to be. PW was also one of the largest of MGS games and to me, one of the best.

It being considered MGS5 yet being a PSP-exclusive for its time shows plenty enough to me. I have a Vita and I'd love for any Canon-related MGS game D: Especially of such scope as GZ or V. Though I 'DO' want to play any MGS game at Top-graphical level to revel in the Fox Engines' glory....

Soldierone4143d ago

Some of it looks really poor for a console game. The only other excuse is this was still really early in development. Look at the lack of textures on everything, the poor models with edges, etc.... look at the pans when he grabs the table and knocks them over. Now compare that to Ground Zeroes, there is a huge difference.

Plus when Uncharted Golden Abyss is one of your launch titles, I don't see why people think this is so impossible. Kojima had MGS4 running on NGP/Vita at one point, and the only cost was slow frame rates. Why would he put all this hype into Vita, then wait over a year to announce anything for it?

Personally think he mixed it. Its Ground Zeroes for Vita and PS3/Xbox.

LOGICWINS4143d ago

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Rewatch this footage in HD. The graphics/textures look like something ud see on a suped up PC. I'm guessing its a PS4 launch title.

MariaHelFutura4143d ago

I can't even believe anyone has convinced themselves this is a Vita title.

Cam9774143d ago (Edited 4143d ago )

I know the traile didn't show a handheld game but if it was for the Vita, the Vita would fly off shelves.

jay24143d ago

VITA needs it. PS3/Vita differently going on here.

rpd1234143d ago

I think that it would be awesome. It definitely wouldn't be exclusive though. I'd like to see MGS Ground Zeroes on the Vita though.

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan165d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara165d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Edit: they did

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga181d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19181d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19181d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq181d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger181d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder181d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils181d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder181d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85181d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

1nsomniac181d ago

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420181d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim181d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo180d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
