With each passing Nintendo Download update that provides 3DS or DSi downloads but no new Wii U content, enquiries about why that's the case often surface. News this week of delays to Toki Tori 2 and Cloudberry Kingdom don't exactly help matters, adding to an impression that content for the Wii U eShop is slow out of the gate. On the surface this frustration at a perceived lack of movement on the Wii U eShop, apart from a much anticipated Rayman Legends demo, is understandable. And yet, when compared to the initial launch and level of content on the 3DS eShop, the new home console equivalent is in a far stronger position.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
Danish from eXputer: "Nintendo has historically gone against player-made content and emulation of its games. This has done much to harm the company's image."
They need to stop announcing these mods and fan remakes until they're finished. Finish it, upload it, and then if Nintendo dmca's it tough shit. Once it's online, people can share it around, even if the original download gets taken down.
This is all coming from the mouth of short-sighted fandom and grifting madness.
No.... it wont. There is a clear defined reason why they don't. This is nothing new. Make your own shi7 from your own original ideas especially if you are trying to capitalize of it it. Duh.
Yeah, hire people that have zero respect or understanding for an established process. Wow. Yep. Totally makes sense.
The indie titles available in the eShop are all fantastic and all worth a download. I got Trine 2 and Nano Assault Neo and both are fantastic games and worth their money.
Not to mention there are full retail games available for digital downloads.
All that is missing in my mind are some demos so that I can try other games to see if they are worth my money.
All in all, It's a huge improvement over the Wii shop, and will only get better as more titles are added.
It needs to be a bit more refined.. I would like notifications of new demos that are uploaded or titles added for download. Also it needs a sort function so you can sort by Free Apps and or demos... Not having the ability to filter by demos is annoying.. It wasnt until recently they put the Fifa demo on the front page of the eshop.
I did like the Nintendo Channel on the Wii where it showed new stuff coming out and releases on the way , I feel like the Eshop can do a better job of that... Also they need to get working CHARTS of what is popular and most purchased .. anyone know when that will be fixed?
God yes, more demo's are needed. I'm not a fan of soccer/football so Fifa was a pretty bad first demo to have.
The fact you can only play demo's 10 times is pretty dumb too.
I love my Wii U, but that shop ........ *Mario voice* needs a lot lota of work.
Well, Wii U owners (like myself) are going to need patience in general because we're in that post launch grey area where Nintendo blew out their load of games at launch, and now we have to wait for new stuff which will be thin for a while, and hopefully get into a groove of solid releases around September 2013. Hopefully Wii U will get more features and patches between now and then to build the online network.
