I'm sure that overall, Crysis 3 won't be very impressive on consoles, just like Crysis 2. Framerate issues, lack of real AA, etc.

I'm sure they'll stiff-arm PC gamers and give an iffy experience to console gamers, just like Crysis 2. They've ultimately left no one completely satisfied with their recent approach.

I hate this "maxed out" BS. The console couldn't run a launch title at 60fps. The GPU was thus maxed out. All they're doing is reducing the rendering quality and image quality further to put more things on the screen. On a PC the rendering quality remains exactly the same no matter what you add.

I don't like the "max out" statements, because unless it is built perfectly (which no game is), it means there will be flaws causing pop-in, framerate issues etc, because they "maxed out" the hardware. I know it's just a PR statement, but in reality XBOX and PS3 have different processors therefor different caps at what would max them out. So the "max out" statement is just PR BS to get attention... and apparently it worked.

Crysis 2 definitely had the potential to blow every console game out of the water graphically, but they rushed it out and didn't polish it at all. it played like something you'd probably get if you played the version after alpha but before beta, this being the PS3 version.

the last 2-3 minutes of Crysis 2 where Alcatraz enters the Ceph ship and crawls through that red stuff inside the ship is the most impressive 2-3 minutes of gameplay I've see on any console game, better than Kratos vs. Poseidon, better than Drake tripping and walking through sand dunes.

If the system remained relevant for the next 3 years, someone else would find ways to compress and use the hardware more efficiently. Another problem of theres... NO ONE even cares if their graphics look PERFECT on consoles! If people REALLY cared about nothing but graphics, they'd spend a ton of money on a good gaming PC. Consoles are designed for convenience, and when it comes down to the average gamer, graphics really don't mean much. Just look at freaking Call of Duty... The graphics haven't improved in YEARS, and people still buy that crap up simply because of how smooth, addicting, and accessible it is. I totally agree. They did say the same thing about Crysis 2. Crysis 2 looked great, but nowhere near as good as some other games that released around the same time (or even before) Crsis 2.. For what it'sworth, I think both Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 look better graphically than Crysis 2.. The downloadable console port of the original Crysis looked better than Crysis 2 imo!

agreed. In all of these current FPS games, Halo excluded, you fight the same one guy over and over and over again. I bought Black Ops 2 and it's extremely boring. you just enter a room shoot 10 generic guys, proceed to the next room, shoot another 10 generic enemy soldiers, there's a set piece explosion, then you shoot 10 more generic guys, rinse and repeat.
I used to play Medal of Honor on the original PlayStation, and I revisited the game a few months ago and that almost 15 year old first person shooter has more fun enemies to fight than the majority of current gen shooters.
You can shoot a guy in the leg and he'll stumble around for a bit and look at you and slowly raise his gun at you. It's pretty funny and entertaining to watch, because there's like 10 different ways to kill the enemy in that game. they'll even throw grenades back at you, they'll shoot at you even when they're down on the ground.
in most big current FPS games like CoD and Crysis, you just shoot an enemy a few rounds to the torso, and they're dead.

I organize my demos in a demo folder on my PS3. What's funny is the PS3 Crysis 2 demo (which barely worked & only for 24hrs. before getting shut down by Crytek cuz they wouldn't fix it) is in a seperate folder titled "FAIL!" It's also the only demo in that folder. I keep it as a reminder to be wary of buying games from dev's that run their mouth, when they got work to do (and don't get done= fail'd!).

I'm not say don't check for Crysis 3, just wait til the reviews AT LEAST! before dropping your loot on this game. I picked up Crysis 2 used for cheap & while it was fun, there was not many ppl playing online just 4 months later. Not to mention overpriced DLC (with nobody playing it!? WTF!?) & a bunch of problems that weren't fixed in singleplayer...

I love the best parts of the Crysis series but Crytek makes sure to include plenty of crappy parts also. The more this view spreads they more likely they are to get it right & assure us these issues are addressed... (fingers crossed while preparing for the worst here based on Yerli still shoveling hype, ppl DON'T EAT IT!!!)

KZ3 looks worse and actually plays worse too. It got turned into a bad COD clone with too many dumb turret segments and that hide in the grass grotto/jungle gameplay was terrible too. The KZ3 AI was poor too. Oh look a sniper giving you three seconds to shoot him so he can fall off of a ledge. Meh.

Crysis 2 was a mixed bag. A lot of the subway parts were disappointing and the end in central park barely made any sense.

But it was a much better single player experience than Killzone 3.

One thing that pure console gamers do not get is that Crytek's engines are designed for Computers not consoles if you look back at when Crysis 1 came out that was around the same time as the 8800 ultra and even then you needed 2 of them to run the game maxed out.

So not only have Crytek looked at the console market and tryed to get into it(and failed) they have also had to downgrade there engines so they can run on these consoles.

C3 remains to be seen but C2 was nothing special on consoles, unless you play your game in screenshot mode where things like framerate don't matter.

Maybe consoles wise...but otherwise no. I loved both KZ2 and KZ3 (platinum'd this one in fact), and completely agree that they looked breathtaking. But when you compare it to the likes of Crysis 1 (when it runs properly anyways), Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 (all 3 running on PC of course), you can see that it doesn't stack up. But as I mentioned, if you just limit it to consoles, then KZ2 is up there near the top.

When he said consoles are maxed out, I'm pretty sure he meant the Xbox 360 is maxed out. We all know they can't develop multiplatform games and make one version way better than the other. It would hurt there sales. If you look at the last of us you could understand my point. I own both on the PS3, and sure, the fps isn't buttery smooth, but it was more than playable - throughout the game for Crysis 2, but for Crysis 1, there were some drops during heavy scenes. But I personally would say that they both had an average fps of 24+.

This game literally looks like a next-gen game, everyone all over the net is saying that. TLOU has all the traits of a current-gen game, nothing about it looks next gen.

Crysis 3 has massive open levels with the best most photo-realistic foliage system the industry has ever seen. The trees and leaves in Crysis 3 are ACTUAL GEOMETRY, they aren't just textures like in TLOU (which is more evident in the new trailer)

Everything in Crysis 3 is happening in REAL-TIME, the last time I checked TLOU doesn't have real-time GI.

Who is comparing TLOU to crysis 3? First of all, TLOU runs on a machine which is 7 years old, and for that it looks brilliant. One thing that might be true is that TLOU might look better than console version of Crysis 3. But you can't compare it to PC. The truth is that every developer uses 100% of the systems power on every game. Some just get more out of that 100% than others. And game after game, we ALL get more out of systems than we did on the previous title. Think of it this way. If the system is a glass, some developers pour in rocks till the glass overflows and then call it quits. They would claim that they use 100% of the systems space. And it is true that no more rocks fit. Some will even put in a rock too many and the game plays slow or runs funny. But there is still some space left for smarter developers. They pour pebbles into the cracks left by the rocks, and they get more into the glass. Then they call it 100% full. But some Developers will then pour in sand, to fill the cracks between the pebbles. They get even more out of the system, yet it is still just 100% full. Some developers go the extra distance, and they pour in water. Then the glass is truly full, right? Sure, but just for this title, because some of the rocks can be replaced with pebbles that do the same thing, if you work hard at it. And some of the pebbles can be made into sand. And some sand can be pressed to water. No developer ever gets a glass filled with only water, no developer has that much time, so no developer truly fills the glass. We just get more and more out of the 100%."

Yeah I sort of regret buying Crysis 2. I mean it was an impressive game, and generally pretty fun, but I felt pretty short-changed buying the Ps3 version. I just can't deal with 720p anymore, and it really hurt the presentation of the game.

Plus the story was just a snoozefest.

For those pictures you posted of Crysis3, They are PC BULLSHOTS taken at ultra high rez and scaled down, they all do it. The same thing with gears, only looks decent in bullshots.

TLOU isn't crisis, and crisis main character does not show on the screen like TLOU/uncharted. Crysis2 was linear, and so is crysis3. Crysis 1 was slightly linear, you still had to do an objective, it's linear.

The best openworld game is FARCRY 3.

I say go as far as we can go this generation in regards to pushing the boundaries. We've seen games attempt to do it flawlessly and still end up coming up short.

I have faith that Crytek can do it, but that will only raise the bar higher for future games this generation. Luckily, they've been able to drastically improve engines and tech each year to a new level.

Crysis 2 was an amazing game with some of the most impressive visuals ever seen in a FPS. I'm a PS3-only owner, and even I have to say that game really pushed the envelope. Well, especially on the Xbox360, on the PS3 it had to face juggernauts like Killzone 2 & 3, which were several notches higher than even Crysis 2.

So I dunno... why all the hate for Crytek's games on this site? Is it because it's a european dev? Or because PC owners lost their precious exclusive Crysis 1 which also got a release on consoles? Or because the PS3 version of Crysis 2 had a slight edge over the Xbox version? Or even because they won't be releasing a CE as big and in your face as the Nano Edition?

What is it guys? And please don't tell me they overpromised and underdelivered, Crysis 2 wouldn't ve been like that if it wasn't for Crytek's Tech! Gears and Halo can put down their guns and play tic-tac-toe compared to that.

Optimisation is the most important thing, Crysis 2 was great all in all. Just too blurry, jaggy, choppy and lacked the final coat of paint and polish. However while far from perfect it is way more playable and way less buggy than certain other games. (looking at you bioware and Bethesda)

So 99% is great... I just hope they make the best poosible use of those 99%, because unlocking power just too throw whatever at it doesnt work too well.

Running on a high-end PC, Crysis 3 will look phenomenal. But here's the issue, I want the game to actually run well on 360 and PS3. Crytek needs to abandon that 30fps half the time philosophy. Crysis 2 looked great, but it suffered in the frame-rate department quite a bit.

Crytek has been going that direction for ages, free 2 play (aka pay 2 win) is simply better. You hit a WAY bigger market, and the people who buy the game will pay money for extra upgrades, characters etc. while the crowd who aren't sure still get to test out the game and can then decide to start paying money for extras. Add in the top of advertisement for the millions of people that are playing, and they are raking in the money. It is an extremely smart business move, and to be honest, do you think a company would decide this without actually looking at profit/loss? Let's be honest, the whole point of it is to earn more money, that's the goal of 99% of businesses. Warface is free 2 play, and holy shit does it look good, free 2 play doesn't mean the game is a crappy 2d flash game.

I understand, but I don't see that being a viable business model for true AAA blockbuster games that cost $50 mill to make like Gears, GOW, Halo, etc. and if that becomes the way of thinking next gen then we can expect much much fewer true blockbuster games of these types.

I can't see Crytek investing $25 to 50 mill in Crysis 4 and hope to not only recoup but make a profit off of $5 or $10 purchases here and there.

MGS 4 was said to use the full potential (actually kojima said it still wasn't enough), yet we have games that do look better now (maybe not artistically, but graphically)

truth be told, if we consider 720p vs 1080p, the consoles have been "maxed" for a very, very long time.

launch games couldn't acieve 1080p, games year later couldn't, heck black ops 2 is 880x720 on consoles, call of duty 4 mw1 was 1024x600

resistance 3 was 940x550p

they devs have had to sacrifice resolution, anti aliasing and framerate since the day consoles came out, this will happen next gen too

its not like 8 years later they found some magic loophole to get the game to run better
