Is Liquid Snake the main protagonist of The Phantom Pain/Metal Gear Solid 5?

STFUandPLAY's Romudeth writes:

"As to whom we’re seeing on screen; I have a theory. I was talking to a friend and he’s convinced me that this character is non-other than Liquid Snake.

The theory that this new character is Liquid could be dismissed because the arm he’s missing is his left one and not the right. However, we have to keep in mind that “an arm” was recovered. It was never specified as to which one."

You forgot the biggest clue of them all, the fact that the character's hair looks lighter than Snake's and Big Boss, hinting at Liquid, although Solidus also has light hair. That said, Liquid possibly dyed his hair that colour in MGS, I can't recall.

The age of the character would fit Liquid also, and the British flag in the hospital also some hint seeing as Liquid has ties to the UK.

"You've been in a coma for quite some time".

What's interesting is could this be the true story of what happened to Liquid Snake post Shadow Moses and could it be that Liquid is suffering phantom pain from who he is cloned from... Big Boss, hence some of the visions in the trailer.

Just to add. I thought this was actually a nightmare mini game for MGS V developed by a different studio.

Thanks for those details man. You're totally right. I updated the editorial and gave you a shout out.

BTW I think the title is supposed to mean the phantom pain of his missing limb. This is something that amputees always talk about.

Heavenly King4147d ago

Liquid is missing the right arm so NO.

Romudeth4147d ago

Read the article Heavenly King.

WeskerChildReborned4147d ago

Yea it could be a mini game or something like that cause Kojima likes to add unique funny and pretty entertaining stuff in his games, like the beginning of MGS4 where you watch TV and stuff.

Heavenly King4147d ago

Gets your facts straight dude. Liquid is missing the right arm. NOT THE LEFT ONE.

And the image is not inverted because when they approach the elevator, you can see that the numbers above it are normal, and the protagonist still has the prosthetic left arm.

bunt-custardly4147d ago

We all know that the arms are different, but how can you even be sure the character even has a missing arm when the whole scene could be a dream. It's possible the missing arm is a clue and hint towards Liquid. I agree the evidence more supports Big Boss as the character, but then we were also led to believe we'd be playing MGS 2 entirely as Solid Snake.

That would be an awesome twist!

andibandit4147d ago

Id prefer gaseous snake or evaporating snake

Ace_Pheonix4147d ago

**** NO! That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How are people taking the fact that Ocelot took dead Liquids arm and turning it into this? It would be more plausible for it to be Ocelot, but it isn't. It's so very obviously Big Boss, you'd have to be completely ignorant of the series to think anything else.

plmkoh4147d ago

Right off the bat it can't be Liquid Snake, only Solid Snake resembles Big Boss.

Yangus4147d ago

This game not MGS5 and not next-gen visuals.

plmkoh4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

The answer is pretty obvious, no f'ing around with is that this and what if that, it's pretty simple:

The 'Phantom pain' is a chapter in MGS5 as in actually leading to a boss battle ie the specter you see floating around. The boss specialises in psychological tricks and the level is a product of it. Quite frankly I'm shaking my head at why this hasn't been suggested when a big deal of Metal Gear involves some sort of boss like that.

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan168d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara168d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Minute Man 721168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Nyxus168d ago

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

ApocalypseShadow168d ago

.... mostly with the help of PlayStation.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga184d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19184d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19184d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq184d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger184d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder184d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils184d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder184d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85184d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420184d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim184d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo183d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
