Possible New Burnout Game? Criterion Dev Says “Burnout isn’t Dead”

Need For Speed Most Wanted released early last month to favorable reviews across all platforms. This game developed by criterion Games left a lot of people wondering what about burnout. A franchise that has made them their bread and butter should not be left out in the cold. At New York Comic Con our very own Antwand “Blackbible” Pearman got the chance to interview and ask a few of the burning questions that fans of Need For Speed would want to know.

I want an HD remake of Black or another Black game. Burnout is another game, that.I would love for them to go back to the drawing board for. More like revenge, but in the Paradise world. Bring back the crash mode.

Burnout 3 is still the most enjoyable racing game I've ever played. Paradise was too overwhelming IMO. To even stand a chance at winning those online races you had to know the city like the back of your hand. Those sudden turns we're brutal!

If theres another Burnout, I prefer it not to be open world.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4154d ago

most wanted kinda felt like a more refined (less overwhelming) burnout paradise. If they did make a paradise 2 I'm sure they'll carry over what they did in most wanted. The problems is that a paradise 2 would feel like a more refined most wanted lol. I'd like a burnout 3 type game.

I'm kinda shocked that you didn't like the open would aspect of paradise. It was awesome too me. It does take a while to get use too but when you do it's great.

Funny when ypou hear someone basically say "The Games TOO Big."

LOGICWINS4154d ago (Edited 4154d ago )

^^I don't mind when games are big as long as the extra space has meaning. San Andreas for example had a huge open world, but more than a third of that world was useless forest/desert space. And many of the side missions were stupid. Why the hell would I want to go to flight school? Its a videogame, not real life.

Although Batman: Arkham City has a smaller world than San Andreas, every iota of that world is fully detailed with tons of baddies to fight, involving side missions to do, and Riddler trophies to collect. Hence I had more fun with Batman: AC than any other open world game I've ever played.

I'd take detail over space any day of the week.

Id honestly be fine with an open world Burnout or a PS2-type new Burnout.

They were all so good i dont even care what they do as long as they keep the quality level as high as they have with past games

Burnout Paradise was, and remains, my favourite racer of this gen by a landslide.

I know some arcade racers had better aspects, and it can't touch GT5/Forza in terms of a Sim.

But it does what it does perfectly. The entire package had me going back time and time again, i easily lost a couple of hundred hours of my life online in this game.

If you make a new Burnout then SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Edit: i still have dozens of "mugshots" from online where it takes a pic of your reaction when taken out with the PS Eye. The amount of times you would find a guy with an Eye and pound each other to death just to make silly faces to each other had me in tears of laughter for hours. Burnout FTW.

This. Cannot agree more about Black HD. I need this game in my life again!

Thanks to EA, Criterion has lost their way, and can't innovate anymore. You can't tell the difference between the NFS and Burnout games now, and they've already run out of ideas, so they're only doing rehashes. I expect their first next-gen game to be titled 'Need for Hot Pursuit in Paradise'.

KingOptimusAscend1114154d ago

Probably saving it for next gen. They also need to bring back Black.

spicelicka4154d ago

please don't do open world this time. One of the best things about older burnouts was that you could jump right from the menu into action.

Plus the indicator turns was the worst thing everr, i wanna know where i need to turn BEFORE it comes up so i can prepare for a drift angle. One wrong turn in Paradise and you had to restart the whole race.

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

The-Matrix-has-you146d ago (Edited 146d ago )

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!

Uuuu, I loved this one. I want it.

LucasRuinedChildhood1299d ago

No NFS released since Hot Pursuit (2010) has came close. The Ghost Games NFS games were just dreadful (to me they were anyway, 2015 was okay I suppose). Would love to replay this and I hope it has an update for next-gen as well.

DarkZane1299d ago (Edited 1299d ago )

I loved Most Wanted as well (on PS3, I think it released in 2012). After that, it has gone downhill, but the latest games are slowly coming back up. I loved NFS Heat, but it needs to get better before it comes back to same level as NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted.

Then again, NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were likely better because they were from Criterion (in fact, those were the last 2 games from criterion in nfs series).

LucasRuinedChildhood1299d ago

@DarkZane
complete agree. Most Wanted was good fun as well.

boing11298d ago

Yeah, Criterion has made two best NFS games in my opinion.

georeo1299d ago

Oh yes! They cops vs the drivers online was a blast.

LucasRuinedChildhood1299d ago

Better be 60FPS unlike the original console ports.

Sgt_Slaughter1299d ago

I would be excited but NFS is basically dead in the water at this point, a shell of its former self.
