Hitman: Absolution - Too Much Porn, Not Enough Gore

An opinion piece criticizing Hitman: Absolution's excessive focus on smutty content, yet bizarrely tame and sanitized violence. This piece goes on to argue that Hitman: Absolution signals that the Hitman series needs to pull away from its lighthearted roots, and become more serious in content and tone.

Very good article and well written. I wish it was a little gorier... It just makes it more immersive. Shit, even dishonored is more gory than this game and this game LOOKS way darker

gore makes kids kill people so its good they leave it out, and porn keeps them from having sex. this is the perfect game for 12-17 year olds.

in all seriousness though I love this game.

From the little I played it I was enjoying it. It seemed to me to be keeping with the ''dark humour' of the series' other entries. Hitman games have always touched on dark subjects in a slightly humorous way. Contracts I thought was the series darkest entry, but even that made light of the strange dark underworld- that level at the meat packing factory where a fetishist party was being held comes to mind.

Admittedly I've only played the first 5-6 levels in Absolution but I think it gets the Hitman 'atmosphere' spot on. Where I think it falls down a bit is the tweaking with the disguises, where the game now feels more like 'Metal Gear' and sneaking around being seen barely if at all, as opposed to the 'hiding in plain sight' type gameplay of the previous entries, which I enjoyed a lot more.

But alas, two corrupted save games later (on PS3) I'm waiting until its patched to actually play it through.

On the outside it looked like a simple thing: Hitman 3 would now be known by this name and include levels from Hitman 2 and 3 - the trilogy would all be in one place. But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.

You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.

Hitman is, and has been, a remarkable series developed by some of the best. Some are better than others, but every Hitman is challenging and fun.

Sure, there have been some stumbles and fumbles, but always in pursuit of the perfect Hitman game. The most recent trilogy is a masterclass in level design.
