Wii U Version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is Broken

Upon checking out the same level on the Xbox 360 version, the problem became clear; the Wii U version does not have about 75% of the Boost Pads that the 360/PS3 versions do, rendering the entire mode impossible to complete. To make matters worse, it must be cleared to move forward in the game, making any level past the fifth unreachable under normal circumstances.

I don't blame the hardware but rather dev inexperience with it. That and expediency.

Godchild10204156d ago

I guess thats why the Vita Version was delayed?

Godmars2904156d ago

Its already on the PS3, and frankly the Vita isn't getting good press, has been damned by them in fact, so of course devs aren't going to want to waste time effort and money.

And especially in the case of the WiiU, not that good with adapting to sudden/new hardware.

Godchild10204156d ago (Edited 4156d ago )

@Godmars290

The Vita version is a port of the 3DS version and the 3DS version comes out the same day. Since the 3DS version still doesn't have any reviews and when it does, it still wouldn't matter because no review will change my mind.

I enjoyed the first one on the 360 with Banjo Kazooie and played a little bit of this on the PS3.

Godmars2904156d ago

Again, Vita's not being seen as popular so the devs don't want to go to the effort. There is no such thing as a straight and effortless port, more so when talking about going from game featuring two screens into one.

Putting in the exact same amount of work for multiple platform titles when one really needs extra has been an issue throughout this gen. Skyrim on the PS3 says as much.

This is just another case of cheap @$$ minimalism.

ChronoJoe4156d ago

Sounds like it didn't go through QA properly is all.

Kinda weird though. Haven't heard about this issue from others with the game... sure it can't be beaten?

ziggurcat4156d ago

this is an issue with the devs, not QA.

having worked in QA for a long time myself, you'd be surprised how many bugs get put into the database that get sluffed off by the devs. chances are, any bug you see in any game had been reported to the devs by QA, but it's up to the devs to fix them.

ChronoJoe4155d ago

If the bug is identified as a gamebreaking progression stopper the developers will not ignore it.

Particularly when it's one that's so easily resolved / trivial.

Phil324156d ago

I would say it was rushed out, but at least Sumo Digital is offering patches soon. If it was like the Wii where patches were next to impossible to do, I would have a bigger problem.

Godmars2904156d ago (Edited 4156d ago )

Considering the Wii U storage range, especially the smallest, if too many titles require patches things could become problematic very quickly. More so for the casual gaming crowd the Wii U is aimed at.

Nevermind that game patches and updates have become standard things this gen.

Mounce4156d ago

When the devs think that the fastest Hedgehog needs to drive a 'Fast Car'.....You know their creativity is out the window.

SONIC IS SO FAST....OH HEY WAIT....LETS HAVE HIM DRIVE A FUCKING CAR!....THAT HE COULD PROBABLY OUTRUN HIMSELF!...

BRILLLLLIANT!

ChronoJoe4155d ago

Old / tired argument.

Sonic drives in a car because he's against other racers who aren't as fast as him. If you've every watched any sort of real racing you'd know the objective is to standardise the races into speed classes. Hence, Sonic and his friends drive cars, so that they can traverse the tracks at relatively similar speeds.

Besides, there are 100s of speed inconsistencies in the Sonic games. Why is Tails as fast as Sonic in Sonic 2? and most of the video games, in fact. Doesn't make sense, but it's there for playability / enjoyment.

Mounce4155d ago

Old and Tired argument? I must not be around the Sonic fans as much as you are. I'll take your word for it . . . . lol

But I feel there's really no reason to defend the game. What Karting game or Driving game that's arcadey and for some fanbase, has ever been successful, beyond Mario Kart?.... (And saying Crash Bandicoot or Diddy Kong Racing doesn't entirely count) Simply though, Mario Kart was the heaviest contender, most other racing games are just Forza / F1 / GT etc.

This game has no purpose, to be 'birthed'.

I won't even get into a topic about Sonic games and inconsistencies... lol

Neonridr4156d ago

I am sure they can patch that to address the issue.

iGamerZERO4156d ago

I play it daily online on my Wii U and haven't seem any issues , maybe it's isolated....

MegaLagann4156d ago

Yeah I have the Wii U version and haven't run into any problems...yet

Deku-Johnny4156d ago

I was looking forward to this game, I've heard it's pretty hard but if I'll only be able to complete the easy modes because of this I don't see much point when there are quite a few other games I want during the launch window. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open to see when this is patched and then get it.

Yodagamer4156d ago

Well a patch was said to be on the way according to sumo digital, its just getting approved by Nintendo

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed - Still Perfect After All These Years

A decade later, Sega's iconic racer is still a formidable foe to the Mario Kart franchise.

Yes, yes it is! Damn shame that Sega never made another sequel or even updated this one with new tracks and characters.

"The platform of choice, however, is the Xbox Series X."

Yessir, the game runs extremely smooth because of the frame rate boost. Still, till this day I play Sonic ASR with friends.

darthv72810d ago

Transformed is my favorite of the series. Even Team racing (the next iteration) is pretty good too but I liked transformed better.

gangsta_red810d ago

I tried team racing and it just didn't click with me as much as Transformed did.

I seriously just wish Sega would do another sequel to that game instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

It was the best alternative to Mario Kart on Xbox/PS

Good list. Personally I’d probably trade the Sonic CD game in this list for Sonic the Hedgehog (1), simply because CD is quite easy so you’ll blast through it, and the original Sonic was basically a new benchmark when it was released which blew everything and everyone at the time away. It also features my favorite zone, Starlight Zone.

I really hope one day we’ll be blessed with a Sonic Mania 2.

RetroCaptainSteve861d ago

Yeah, the first game will always be a classic, but I believe Sonic 2 and 3 moved the chains for the series quite a bit. Sonic CD definitely innovated as well, particularly with its amazing soundtracks and 3D bonus stage. :D

Fntastic861d ago

R was one of my first PC games along with Worms 2 and some others like Virtual Springfield. R was kind of good in a strange way i guess, i didn't hate it at the time.

Sonic CD was decent but I'd say i liked the music more, at least for the JP/EU version, some of the levels felt a bit all over the place and most of the bosses were odd and a bit too easy. Even though the system was a flop too it did have some very good games like Final Fight also which had some great music.

Rebel_Scum859d ago

The 8-bit Sonic’s always get left off these ranked lists.

badboyz09859d ago (Edited 859d ago )
