PlayStation All-Stars Sales "are Right on Target"

IGN:News from the UK indicates that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita is selling very poorly. Sources such as Gamasutra note that the game placed 38th out of 40 games, in order of sales, in its opening week.

Godchild10204161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

Sony is happy with the sales because retail is not the only way to get this game. They know how well this game is selling through the digital space. Also, we only got what has happened in the UK for a span of 2 days at max and not the US/EU or any of the other places this game has released at.

NYC_Gamer4161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

That's why can't just base sales on retail.I guess many people forgot All-Stars is also sold digital over the psn store.

NewMonday4161d ago

Absolutely didn't care about this game up to a week ago, but then I played it with family who got the game and I love it now. I hope it doses well enough to become a franchise

achmetha4161d ago

So glad they released it digitally. I love being able to boot up the console and play, even if I have a different disk in.

Abash4161d ago

I love it when people are rooting for games to flop, and they end up being successful. Very happy to see PlayStation All-Stars hitting it's target sales despite such backlash from naive people who deem it a Smash Bros clone. The game is incredibly fun and gives deep gameplay that makes it hard to put down the controller each time I play

If Sony's happy with how it's doing then that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned. Means a sequel could be on the cards!

Anon19744161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

Like I pointed out before, remember how many rushed to proclaim LittleBigPlanet a flop initially? Yeah.. what was pretty much a 2.5d platformer "flopped" it's way to over 5 million last count.

We even saw articles wringing their hands about how disappointing game sales in the Uncharted series were because they didn't sell like Gears right out of the gate.

No surprise that we're seeing the same type of behaviour from some sites regarding this title. If Sony fans are looking forward to it, you can be sure someone will be there to shit all over it for some reason or another. That's just how it goes.

Luthar4161d ago

Are you claiming it is an anti playstation fan conspiracy? The game debuted at number 38, PSN sales or not, that is pretty pathetic for a high profile exclusive releasing on a console that hasn't exactly had an action packed holiday as far as great quality exclusives are concerned.
If they are happy with the sales, why not share them and spread the joy?
Are you seriously going to fall for PR talk without any proof?

tiffac0084161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

@Luther
"However, these numbers struck me as somewhat unfair for two reasons. For starters, All-Stars launched in the UK on November 23rd. Weekly sales ceased being counted on November 24th"

Not saying its going to sell in boat loads but the current ranking is not a fair assessment. Especially given the current facts.

Luthar4161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

@tiffac Lord of the Rings Lego released on the very same day but managed to hit the chart 6 positions higher on the PS3 only chart
http://www.chart-track.co.u... The same PS3 version of LotR Lego managed to chart at number 13 in the top 40 individual chart and PASBR failed to crack it on to the list.
http://www.chart-track.co.u...
So clearly it isn't just a matter of being released a day before the charts closed, it's about the game not being popular enough to get alot of PS3 owners to buy it.

tiffac0084160d ago

Your putting an established franchise that caters to a wider audience against a new IP?

Come on man lets be fair here. Look this game will probably not sell in the millions but lets not put too much hate into things. Let it be.

The incognito xbox trolls were all over the other article saying how PS All stars had done poorly because PS3 fans didn't buy games. LOL, pathetic kids. Let the games be.

Luthar4161d ago

I just had to comment on this, do you expect SONY to say the game hi tanking? They said the same thing about the PSP Go and then it continued tanking and they discontinued it. http://www.1up.com/news/psp...
All I'm saying is without actual numbers, it is all just PR talk.

Nes_Daze4161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

The point is not about the sales, the point is that xbox fans take the time to comment and bash these games, because they don't sell as much as much bigger marketed exclusives, it's like a higher level of trolling, but still pathetic.

Cocozero4161d ago

Im not surprised of the poor sales all Sony cares about now are the casuals. Every ad in the UK is either about Wonderbook or Lego games.

Catoplepas4161d ago

Wow, this is some top notch dumbassery right here.

Really. Bravo. *golf-clap*

jukins4161d ago

Ppl like you are gonna bash Sony to the ground then we really will be left with only casual games

raytraceme4161d ago (Edited 4161d ago )

Oh really? It's the holiday season where mommy and daddies buy for their kids. Sony is marketing to that demographic this Christmas.

Don't worry though because we do have beyond 2 souls, sly 4, GOW: Ascension, Until Dawn, Puppeteer, RAIN, and the Last Of US to enjoy next year. With the very low possibility of Agent and The Last Guardian.

So 8 exclusives for next year. Looks like the ps3 will go out in style. For hopefully next year's biggest release The PlayStation 4!!!!

BlaqMagiq244161d ago

I'm guessing you've haven't heard about their exclusives coming out in 2013 or just been too ignorant to notice. How about you look them up?

rainslacker4161d ago

Maybe because the hardcore gets that news from other sources? Maybe because the hardcore made up their minds months ago which games they are going to buy? Why spend money marketing to people that already know it exists?

Yes it works for some games like Halo, Gears, COD...but you realize that their marketing budgets are just as big, if not bigger, than the actual game development budget? Why spend more money when you can make just as much PROFIT by doing less.

Problem is that we have no clue what the "target" is. Did they lower the sales estimate/forcast like they did with the Vita?

BigStef714161d ago

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69515d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop515d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard515d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi515d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin515d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus522d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer521d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
