What was the greatest game of the last generation?

Xenosaga, Metal Gear Solid 2

Xenosaga had the potential to usurp FF as my favorite rpg series of all time. But #2 was just so meh. I suffered through it, and it wasn't bad; it just didn't live up to the high standards set by the first. The third brought that quality back, but was also a downer because you knew you would never get the three games that were supposed to come after it.

As for what I think the greatest game was, I'll just say the PS2 library and leave it at that. Far too many games(on the GC, DC and Xbox as well, but the sheer number on PS2 was overwhelming) to even attempt singling out ONE.

Persona 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Grandia 2.... just too many of them.

To me, Episode 1 is the worst, mainly because of ridiculous battle system and boring storyline. On the other hand, the third episode is one of the best JRPGs ever made. But I don't think it is right to compare the episodes to each other.

Kingdom Hearts 2, Timesplitters Future Perfect, Wind Waker, San Andreas, Mario Sunshine, Jak 3, Jak X, Metroid Prime, Shadow of Colossus and Battlefront 2 are definitely the top games of the 6th gen. I don't know what I'd say is the best, probably KH2.

Jet Set Radio Future on the Xbox is one of the most enjoyable platforming games that I've ever played.
And that choice at least honours the Dreamcast where the series started. Sonic Adventure 2 on the DC and GC is very good by the way.

On PS2, Silent Hill 3 and Resident Evil 4 (on Cube first) must both have a shout for survival horror games.

The first Metroid Prime game was special.

I do wish that I had played San Andreas because I like the location. At least GTA5 looks more likely to give me a taste of what I missed than GTA4 ever did. New York has just never done it for me in a game, it's gridblock streets are too predictable and we all know that it's one of the safest big cities in serious crimes per head nowadays anyway.

Super Mario Sunshine was OK, Mario controlled well but the holiday theme was too restrictive and surely Galaxy is better. The Wind Waker looked and sounded beautiful but it also seemed restrictive because of being set on small islands.

Don't know about generation but for me personally N64 held it for YEARS in terms of Multiplayer, and had great single player titles as well.

Goldeneye,WCWvs.NWO World Tour, WCWvs.NWO Revenge,Virtual Pro Wrestling,Perfect Dark, Turok:Dinosaur Hunter, Turok:Seeds of Evil, Turok:Rage Wars, Mario64, StarFox64,Donkey Kong64, Killer Instinct, and Killer Instinct Gold, Mario Party(when it was good.),Ocarina of Time,WWF No Mercy,Majors Mask, and Mario Kart 64, Mortal Kombat Gold,and a personal favorites were Biofreaks, and Conkers bad Furday, and Resident Evil 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

N64 to me is still king of couch multiplayer with friends, we still get together and go 4 player split screen on a 60inch tv with some booze, good times.

GTA 3 was hands down the powerhouse that nobody else had done, & nobody has done better to this day. I may get hated on for not saying GTA:SA, as many dillusional fools think that game was better than GTA 3.....But GTA 3 was jaw dropping when you brought it home & fired it up.....PC, Console or any other platform had never experienced anything like this game. San Andreas & even Vice City were just extensions of the amazingly, awesome & unbelievable groundwork that GTA 3 had laid years before.

I couldn't believe I was playing GTA3 for the 1st week or 2, this was the game of any gamers dreams, that we thought would never come to fruition, & especially in this well rounded, polished a form for what was a genre 1st & definer.
The sequels did not offer that wow factor, & the only game I would say that has given me that wow factor that is in within the same genre that I've seen since GTA3 is Watch Dogs, & frankly that is just unproven gameplay wise & is nothing but a beautiful looking video of a game so far.

For me, GTA3 was perfect, & VC & SA became too convoluted with all the eating, gyming & all that crap that is a chore in real life, let alone a videogame. GTA3 was pure, untainted by all that other unnecessary crap in the 2 PS2, Xbox sequels.
Timesplitters 1 & 2 were also great games along with Burnout 2.
