Where are all the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players on Wii U?

GameZone writes, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may have earned over $500 million worldwide when it launched last week for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, but it seems the game is struggling to catch on with Wii U players. It's likely that we won't hear specific figures regarding the Wii U version of Activision's biggest launch title of the year for quite a while, but upon signing in to online yesterday we noticed a startling number: only 600-some players were online at the time."

There's probably multiple reasons.
1. It's a brand new console so the fanbase isn't there yet.
2. People probably aren't buying a wiiu to play CoD. People are buying it to play mario and zombiu.
3. Shooters aren't really that popular with the Nintendo crowd.
4. Not a lot of advertising for the wiiu version.
5. Most people who buy the wiiu already have another console. Therefore, the people who wanted CoD already bought it.

Just my thoughts...

Neonridr4168d ago

I agree with most of that.

I have Black Ops 2 for the Wii U, but I haven't tried it yet. Spent the first day setting everything up to my liking and transferring over my Wii data. Then last night I tried out ZombiU. Tonight I may pop in Black Ops 2 to give it a whirl. However I will more than likely play the campaign first. I have grown a little tired of the online play.

lifesanrpg4168d ago

I am LOVING ZombiU! Nice to see a true survival/horror game.

MNGamer-N4168d ago

Agree 100%, I have CODBO2U as well, just tried it today for the first time. ZombiU, Mario, and Nintendoland come first. Give it some time. I will also play through the COD campaign first.

yesmynameissumo4168d ago

That's exactly what I bought with my Wii U - Mario and ZombiU. Both are an absolute blast. Blops 2 will get playtime on the PS3.

Nattwenny4167d ago

I just got a Wii U and I intend on buying Blops 2 for it but my main reason is to play couch split screen with that beautiful controller.

Sounds entirely reasonable to me. I think your thoughts are logical. If only the industry was full of people like yourself...

profgerbik4167d ago

I would say 5, the fact everyone already owns this game for Xbox 360 and PS3.

SilentNegotiator4167d ago

Uhhhh, but for a system that probably has at LEAST a million sold systems already, it should have a COD fanbase bigger than 600 people at a time. That's ridiculous.

Nintendo console or not, it's one of the most popular franchises in existence right now.

This game shouldve been 50,000 strong by now on wii u.. Being a new console or not, COD sells on ALL platforms.. Its over 5 mil on original wii with that crappy port

dark-hollow4168d ago (Edited 4168d ago )

You are missing the point.

Cod released on the Wii while it had already a huge install base.
This cod simply have zero because its a launch game and a one that was released on other platforms from about a week ago.

Every cod fan already got their console of choice to play cod on it.

If you want numbers then look for super Mario Uand zombie U sales next week.

Temporary4168d ago

When CoD released on Wii there were already millions upon millions upon millions of Wiis sold lol...to NOT sell in the millions wouldve been an odd fail for a game like CoD.

WiiU is JUST out, Ill be surprised if Black Ops hits 200,000 by the end of november.

profgerbik4167d ago (Edited 4167d ago )

What the shit does sales have to do with getting more players into CoD?

Oh yea nothing.. you go from explaining why CoD is empty to saying you want numbers? Look at sales sheets later..

Oh you Nintendo fans and your sales.. You all sound like Reggie.

megamanX24168d ago (Edited 4168d ago )

The game is boring that's why it's just the next wave of $60 dlc that millions of unsuspecting buyers bought into once again. Personally im not sure why i bought it, and zombies might be the saving grace for the game.

"I am LOVING ZombiU! Nice to see a true survival/horror game."

yeah dud ur right this is the first game that i have played in long time that's been giving me trouble on how exactly how to approach certain situations in the game.

They are still downloading their 5gb mandatory update for online features.

Yeah 75 million consoles versus ~1 million sold. Many aren't even in their hands yet.

People have to remember if you pre-ordered it, odds are, it still hasn't arrived to your house. Mine doesn't arrive until the 27th.

For 360/ps3 owners you don't have a brand new library of games diverting people's attention, you have Dishonored and Halo 4, both of which launched weeks ago. For Wii U, you have 20 something games a couple of days ago.

You have the updates, which are slowing people down from getting to playing. How many people that got a console on Sunday, couldn't play until Monday? Tons.

You also have people playing the single player and not the multiplayer.

Also since the 360/PS3 version came out earlier, theirs already arrived via mail, and the big initial campaign beater wave has already passed, leaving those players to focus on multiplayer.

So yeah, there's lots of reasons. The Wii U version is going to keep adding people every day through the end of the year at least.

Xbox $70 billion bet paid out

fr0sty248d ago

Guess that's what happens when there's no good new games to play...

4Sh0w248d ago (Edited 248d ago )

Well regardless of exclusives, or whatever else there is to play on Xbox or ps, CoD has has still been the top selling game on ps platform since forever also.....so no surprise that the most popular game franchise on any console could easily have a revival due to servers coming back online...this is just credit to xbox backwards compatibility & thats good thing for Xbox gamers.

wiz7191248d ago

@Frosty orrrr maybe it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to go back to the peak of the series .. and it’s beem great lol

mkis007248d ago

It's going to take 10 years for xbox to generate that much profit...

Rhythmattic248d ago

Why worry when they have OS, Server and Background Data in their hands...
Gaming is just the small piece, at the top left in a few K piece jigsaw.

EasilyTheBest248d ago

If you buy a house with cash for 1 million dollars you still own the house. Microsoft don't need to make the money back.

Rhythmattic246d ago

But its not money back, its about how it goes missing.

jznrpg248d ago

Shooters is what Xbox people play most of the time and that’s about it by the numbers and sales of games.

shinoff2183249d ago

Atkeast older gamers nostalgia is good. Jeez.

Jin_Sakai249d ago

Mostly because the new CoD games are garbage. The old games were much better.

Rutaprkl248d ago

Agree 100%. Cod 4, WaW, Black ops 1 & 2, those were the days.

Rhythmattic248d ago

For MP, Unreal tournament , QIII Arena (loved the UT mod) FTW!

RaidenBlack248d ago

Unreal Tournament and Quake III were simply amazing ... CoD's and CoD-likes' rise killed the arena shooter popularity ...
Unreal Tournament 2004 is my favorite in the series.
Didn't enjoy Unreal Tournament III, Quake Champions that much.
Too bad Epic cancelled Unreal Tournament 2014 becoz of Fortnite

Rhythmattic247d ago (Edited 247d ago )

I got hooked on the QIII Urban Terror mod (and my work colleagues I introduced them to)... LAN Sessions at the closing of the doors at work, into the night , sinking beers and eating pizza..... Good times.

thesoftware730249d ago

Wow, good games never get old I guess.

CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.

CrimsonWing69248d ago

Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.

1Victor248d ago

@crimson:” Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.”
I agree it’s worthy at the start of the generation when there’s few new generation games but halfway through the generation it’s not a feature.
Now it’s good that this game is finding a renewed life for its fan but it shows a mayor flaw in new games release when a close decade old game is toppling the charts

CrimsonWing69248d ago

I don't know if I understand what you mean. It's a feature regardless of the time into the generation.

Let's take Armored Core 6 for example. Let's say I'm interested in checking out the previous Armored Core games, sure would be nice if I could play them on my current-gen console.

We're about 3 years into current-gen and old games are hitting in the top 5 for sales charts in the month.

I do get where you're coming from with older games possibly being better than the newer games, but the feature stays the feature. I can only speak for myself, but when there's a lull in game releases or nothing great is out, I like to go back to old titles. It's just nice to not have to have a bunch of consoles out to do so.

I think moving forward it'll be less and less of an issue as like with the PS5 you can access most all of the PS4 games, but I like going back to PS1 and PS2. Would be awesome to kind of make backwards compatibility a prioritized feature moving forward. Hell, Sony was the first to implement it.
