Today the Spike VGA's announced their nominees for all categories. The game of the year nominees include Assassins Creed 3, Dishonored, Mass Effect 3, Journey and the Walking Dead

I saw this a while ago. And I was surprised Halo 4, Black Ops 2, and Borderlands 2 didn't make the list. Then I looked at the comments and got some of the best laughs ever......fans & fanboys you kill me.

It's Spike's GOTY awards. They choose the nominees, gamers vote on them. If it was the gamers GOTY then we could include anything we wanted.

That being said I'm hoping for The Walking Dead, Journey, or Dishonored. AC3 and ME3 are good, but I hoping something bold and new wins it.

I'm just glad to see Journey getting so much attention. It was my pick for GOTY when it came out, and is still my pick for GOTY today. Truly an amazing game. 343 is my clear pick for studio of the year... they have done a fantastic job with Halo 4. Congrats to all the nominees.

Journey - Mostly because as a PSN game it's stunning, it's like art packaged into a video game

Dishourned - Mostly because it's a new fresh IP and it fuels hope for a sequel.

For the studio I would have to go with GearBox, they made Borderlands 2 and since that didn't get nominated for GOTY it would be nice for them to win.

Female Voice Actress....has to be Cortana, I'm sick of people going on about tme mo cap actress, Jen Taylor is the one who brings her to life.

Claptrap has to win best character, that COD character better not win, I have no idea why he is there most COD characters are the same personality wise. Maybe one year, when Uncharted 4 comes out Nolan will FINALLY win an award.

We're at the point now where the line between downloadable games and retail games is becoming irrelevant. In the infancy of XBL and PSN, they were neat little snippets of content and nothing but simplistic fun. Today we have downloadable games that surpass retail releases in terms of graphics, gameplay, depth, but ultimately in the quality of the experience. Looking forward to seeing both some announced titles as well as hopefully some new ones. Especially PS3 as first/second party have a lot of unannounced projects but also something from MS... other than Judgement, XBLA, or Kinect as those are really main exclusives we "know" about for '13. If they aren't waiting to announce next gen anyways, I'd like to see something at least as no Late year games have been announced yet (Sony has several TBA release dates at least).

it would have been nice to see Borderlands 2 and Halo 4 get a GOTY spot, but it's cool that Dishonored and 2 indie games got nominated.

it seems that they addressed some of the complaints from past years like having 5 freakin' music categories. The nominees are pretty varied as well, not too bad.

my only concern is that we don't get pointless celebrity cameos, and those stupid "in between" game show activities like last year. There should be some integrity with these awards.

Also, this is just me, but i think it would've been nice to have a category like, "Best Boss Battle," or "Most creative level," because it'd be great to point out the good things that the developers worked so hard in designing, just a thought :P

It doesn't matter that Halo 4 wasn't nominated because a multiplayer centric game will never win GoTY. Game of the Year and Single Player Game of the Year are synonyms, if anything we need a Multiplayer Game of the Year award if that was the case I'm sure Halo 4 would be nominated. Any kind of marketing such as events was NOT done by the developers, it was done by MS's marketing department.

Sorry by to have a studio of the year, that means you must recognize what that studio has done for that year. 343i ONLY released 1 game this year. Halo 4. In order to recognize the studio for what they have done, you must recognize the game which the studio has created. To not even have Halo 4 nominated is just plain pathetic. There is more content in Halo 4 for your $60 then ANY other game released this year.

This is an outrage. Putting 343i in the studio of the year category is throwing them a bone saying "hey, we didn't nominate your HUGE game that has scored very well in the eyes of the industry so instead we are going to nominate you for studio of the year".

343 Industries for Studio of the Year, they did an amazing job with Halo 4, from characters, story and visuals, they did just an incredible job.

For action/adventure;
I enjoyed Dishonored & Sleeping Dogs more than Assassins Creed 3.

For shooter;
I'd choose Max Payne 3, but most likely Borderlands 2 will win because of its multiplayer.
Also, how did Halo 4 & BO2 make it into the list so fast? Halo 4 released too late, imo, & BO2 is riddled with issues, smh.

For studio;
Either Arkane or Telltale (The Walking Dead is a great game & very much underrated & overlooked.

For Anticipation (in this order);
The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
GTA5
The other two can take their time coming, but I want those three right now!

I agree;
The 1st season of The Walking Dead starts out really slow. But it is a good series. It just takes patience to stay interested.
However, the game is actually fun. Even if you don't follow the show, @ least demo the game.

That's how it happened for me;
I dreaded the 1st season, caught pieces of season 2 here & there, end up trying out the 1st few episodes of the game, liked it, & went back to catch up on the seasons.

Even though i voted, Spike TV are the worst. We do not need celebrities that does not care about video games, why should not [let's say] the guys at IGN host the show. Spike TV are the one that gave Madden NFL game of the year award,back in 2004.
