Five Little Things To Boost PS Vita Sales

As the PlayStation Vita approaches its very first holiday season, the one and only system owner at Gamers-Association.com shares some suggestions that might help Sony sell a few more units of this floundering handheld.

Bundles, bundles, bundles.

Include a game and an 8 gig mem card for each Vita.

A price cut would likely cause the greatest boost of them all.

At the moment, the price is competing with home console offerings. As you mentioned above, including an 8 gig memory card would do the platform justice as well. The price point is probably making the device a hard sale for many a consumer. It tops off close to $300 after the much needed purchase of memory before the purchase of a single game.

A price slash would win over the hearts and cash flow of millions, and put an end to the sales slump.

But the greatest loss of profits for Sony... there's the problem. They just can't afford to take that risk just yet, shareholders would have a duck fit. Then there's the matter of Sony selling $1.9 Billion of Convertible Bonds to expand their business, largely because they borrowed money to buy Gaikai.

I agree that Sony would take a loss at first. But developers desperately need a larger install base to sell their product. The latest Japanese hardware sales released today show that a price cut is needed sooner than later.

It would be nice to see the platform flourish. Especially at an important time like now during the holiday season. Hopefully Playstation All Stars will provide some sort of a momentum change.

@Lx i really do hope psv sales pickup soon as it is an amazing device but after seeing the lbp sales i dont think all stars will do any better.

Im getting it but everyone i know who wants a handheld machine is getting the 3ds because the collection of games on it is broader and its alot less.

I own both and the list of games i want for both is bigger on the 3ds too but the PSV has some amazing games and i hope sony can do something to pickup the sales.

They really need to bundle an 8GB memory card with the Vita. The main problem people have with the Vita is that you literally can not play anything without a memory card, so the "only $249" claim is a complete lie.

Another huge problem is that in a commercial Sony advertised the Vita playing PS3 games like Killzone 3 via Remote Play, however Sony claims they have no plans to support PS3 games via Remote Play. That was a huge lie, it was false advertising.

Before the release of the Vita they also advertised that you could Play PS1 games on the Vita, with no disclaimer saying that the feature would be coming months after release.

When the Vita was first announced everyone wanted it and it had a huge amount of hype, but many people were put off by all of the lies and false advertising. Sony is going to have a very hard time getting all that support and interest back. They shot themselves in the foot, basically.

For 250 you get a system 4GB memory card and a full game. That seems pretty good.

The only thing that makes it looks expensive is the memory card since you do not get one for free.

The games you should not have any problems with since retail prices goes down pretty fast.

Its also the holiday season, so there are bound to be good deals going around. You may find a deal that will work for you.

The Vita needs Japan.

Sony should stop supporting the PSP in the Land of the Rising Sun and have the 3rd party developers move all their games to the Vita. I just can't see the logic in sacrificing the Vita for additional sales on its predecessor. That has to end.

Sony should also work with these developers to port and localize the PSP games that has a western audience like FF Type-0, VCIII, Suikoden to name a few.

And yes I agree that every Vita purchase should have (at least) a 4GB memory. So the consumers can start out with something and choose to upgrade at a later time.

An enhanced HD release of Type-0 would sell a ton of Vitas. I really don't know what they're waiting for anyway, FF games do very well in the west yet they stubbornly choose not to localize it.

imo they only need 1 thing to improve the same. They need to stop getting unnecessary hate from people all around be it publishers, developers, journalist or gamers alike. The console is actually good and deserve the right attention given people looking at it in the right way.

More full featured games? Why are you guys so obsessed with stuff being "tailored" to the Vita? That translates to "handheld owners have low standards" to publishers. Because of you games are being outsourced to incompetent studios. Too many spin-offy stuff made by thowaway devs on the Vita right now.

Face it the price is the main obstacle for consumers to get over the fact that the Vita is an outstanding piece of hardware. Though for some reason that was not the case when the price was first announced way back when, funny how people seem to forget the littlest details.

'I can't afford $250+ on the Vita, oh well. Time to check my email on my new Ipad....'
